Jaguars v. Titans, Open Thread Maddness!

   VS

Week Fifteen: Jacksonville Jaguars at Tennessee Titans

Location: LP Field

Kickoff Time: 1:00pm

CBS

Things to Remember for this game:  The Titans are 25th in Pass Defense and 28th in Rush Defense.  The Titans are likely to load the box against the run and "Dare David" to pass.  Given that they allow 200 pass yards per game, this might work pretty well for us.  As usual, CB Adam Jones will be matching up on our WR's, but for the Titans to identify who's number one might be a challange.  The absence of a recent Jaguars pass attack could open up the "surprise" effect.

As always, be sure to stop by Music City and say hello on his live blog.  I'll probably poke my head over there at some point.

(In unrelated news, I'm really surprised that it is EASIER TO GET THE GAME ON TV in the frigging mid-west than it is 90 miles south of the stadium)

This is where...
Playoff teams step up.  Sure, the first part of the game has been bad, but it's no reason to give up.

Offense needs to settle down, slow down, and understand that if it were not for Fred's Hammy, they'd be up 7-0.

Defense, keep up with the 3 and out's

If you think you;re a playoff team, act like one and stay in this game!

I wonder...
How much these announcers are being paid by the Titans...

Every play that Jacksonville advances is explained as anything other than the Titans fault.

For example, Garrard wiping out the cornerback on a scramble is a fault "of the rules", not Garrard laying out a big hit.

Also, this announcer is reminding us that the Titans run defense is better than indy.  Which is true...by a margin of 5 spaces.  Hardly an improvement.

I usually don't "Whine" about things like this, but the color commentator is clearly siding with the home team on this one...

(And he has no clue of what "Ball Control" offense means)

I hate the...
Jones-Drew "Hates everyone for not drafting him" frame that they are throwing out there.  It's clearly tongue in cheek, as he's said dozens of times, and not his only motivation for scoring.

But I like seeing a major network doing side by side comparisons of Jones-Drew and Bush and showing how our boy is the man!

But a few min ago they talked about Young's sidearm throwing motion and how there was "no question" in the Titans that they would take him.

Except for the whole "Chow coached Leinart" angle, the difference in opinion beteween Fisher and Management, etc.

Someone needs to fact check the fact checkers...

Garrard
Music City Miracles says that Garrard is getting a ton of time to throw the ball. Vince Young. I'm hearing a lot of rookie of the year talk for this guy -- mainly because of his fourth quarter comeback ability. Granted, I haven't seen the guy play, so I'm not really on-board either way. I know that you'd take and support Drew no matter what. But is Young just another Michael Vick? Quick legs, horrible efficiency?
Blogger for the Cincinnati Bengals

by KirkendallJ on Dec 17, 2006 2:06 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Young has that whacky....
way of throwing the ball.  Vick can throw a deep ball and nail a receiver in stride.  Mikes problem comes from the shorter passes and the quick releases.  Vince isn't being allowed to throw a lot of the dink and dunk stuff (which says something) and his deep balls are way off the mark.  He's had two shots downfield with receivers having a step on the Cornerback, and both passes were horribly innaccurate.

His feet are nice, but only if you let him run.  Smart defenses will know that they have to dare him to throw.

I think he'll be allright, but he's no "Jesus in Cleats"

Jones-Drew with 17
Jax has the lead, 75 yards on the ground, and a big time of possession advantage.

I'm not comfortable, but I'm ok with what I see.

Getting a TD this drive and going into halftime with a two score lead, then running running running to the win would be OK with me.

Williams makes a big catch, but forced out.  Fisher can't challange it (inside of two min AND a force out), but called a time out to give the Ref's time to check it out.

NFL...
..should take the lead with college football on their replay system. If the NFL claims they want to get the calls right, then take replay out of the coaches hands and let the ref in the booth stop the play if there was a mistake. And the thing is, the ref in the booth (who I'd call "god ref"), would stop play on all mistakes.

I view it this way. If you're going to have a corrective system, then do it right. Or don't do it at all. But when coaches aren't sure with the amount of mistakes by NFL refs, it's not right to only give coaches a couple of challenges and threatening their use of them by risking a timeout.

I'm stepping off my soapbox now.

Blogger for the Cincinnati Bengals

by KirkendallJ on Dec 17, 2006 2:22 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

agreed
You shouldnt be able to coach around the replay.  Like when coaches hurry up and run a play when they think a call is reviewable, that's against the spirit of getting the call right.

Not that anyone cares...
But my fantasy football playoffs are this week.

I've got MJ-Drew, who's done well, but my opponent this week has Reggie Willaims.  Though I never let fake football interfere with my ability to enjoy real football, especially in games like this.

Jones-Drew is returning kickoffs again, this time for 29 yards.

I think the Jags are gonna try and get something going on this drive.  Put this game in the bag.

This is where they have to step up.  Mistakes happen, but they have to keep their heads in it.

We've owned the Titans with the run, they can go down on the run.  It's 17-10, lots of time on the clock.  But Jacksonville needs to act like the team it wants to be.

Now the Jets, Bills, TITANS, and Steelers are gonna still be alive in the wild-card hunt, and all Jax fans have to become the biggest Colt fans in the world.

Also, we have to beat New England at home and the Chiefs on the Road.

Things get a whole lot harder if we lose this game

Adios
Well bud, I'm outta here. I'm sure this loss will linger for awhile, so don't drink too much. BTW, if you have time, make sure you stop by Cincy Jungle during the game tomorrow against your best friends, the Colts. ;)

You know those moments
Where the defense just steps up and does something amazing.  Those moments where everyone just looks at eachother and decides to make the play of the game!

Thats what we need right now.

Strip the ball, interception, something huge!

You know what...
If they get the ball back, and if they get a hail mary to work for the TD...

I hope they go for 2

Now we look in the Mirror
Colt's just clinched the AFC South

Titans are still alive in the Playoff Hunt

Things just got a bit more complicated for Jacksonville

(But for the record, Vince Young did nothing)
