Jags Get Caught In A Colt Stampede
the Colts stampede that came to Jacksonville Municipal Stadium on Monday night obliterated a lot of hopes and dreams. Those hopes and dreams of the jags and their fans were for winning the AFC south. It was made very clear that the Jags don't yet measure up to the elite status they thought they did.
The Indianapolis Colts dominated the Jacksonville Jaguars in every area of the game. This game showed how the Colts and the patriots truly both are the elite of the league and the rest of the league is below them by far. The best we as Jag fans can now hope for is to get one of the wild card slots to get into the playoffs.
The Jaguars offense struggled the whole game. Garrard was 8-12 for 72 yards. He had no Tochdowns or interceptions. He was then injured and with his injury the Jags suffered a good bit. Quinn Gray came in and went 9-24 for 56 yards and two interceptions.
The running game worked but seemed to struggle some. Fred Taylor ran 11 times for 55 yards. Maurice Jones-Drew ran 13 times for 52 yards and 1 touchdown. Towards the end of the game Jones-Drew injured his knee. There are no reports as of yet on how serious the injury may be. His agent says he is alright and it is just one of those bruises that come with playing football.
The defense could not stop the Colts. They especailly had trouble on third downas Indy was 7-14 on third down and 1-1 on fourth down. The Colts ran for 141 yards and passed for 243 yards against the strength of the Jaguars.
It seems very clear to me that the Jaguars still are not where they need to be. They are a good team but not a great one. The New england Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts are two teams that will most likely decide the NFL championship this year.
In order to add depth to the roster at Quarterback the Jags signed Todd Bouman to the roster as a backup Quarterback. In order to do this they had to release Linebacker Pat Thomas. This move is one i still don`t understand.
The Jags have a capable backup in Lester Ricard on their practice squad that knows the system and looked fairly good in preseason play. Instead they go outside the system to bring in a 35 year old guy that doesn`t know the playbook and hasn`t played at all since the final three games of 2005. this move to me is questionable considering Ricard sitting there on the practice squad. Why do we have him if not for things like this. If he osn`t good enough to step in as a backup then why do we keep him on the practice squad?
The Jaguars have to somehow salvage the rest of the season from disaster because of injuries and the fact that they see they are not yet among the elite teams in the NFL. They have to keep from becoming discouraged and play through with at least a few wins in order to have any shot at the playoffs this year.
