Jacksonville Jaguars v. Denver Broncos: Live Blog/Open Thread

Here is our Live Blog/Open Thread for the Jaguars/Broncos matchup that starts in a little under three hours.   Sadly for me, I'm out in the field today, and will be following along as best as I can from my phone, so any comments here would be greatly appreciated.

The Sports Guru over at Mile High Report runs a fantastic Denver blog, so if you're looking for commentary from the "other side", please visit them!

Help keep me posted, I appreciate it!

im so worried about todays game, a loss ends our season. however, if we win. i’ll console myself that we’re still on track for a playoff place (ish) and we have a few losses to take us to a better draft position!!

Inactives

Reggie Nelson, Chauncey Washington, Brian Witherspoon, Thomas Williams, Brad Meester, Chris Naeole, Mike Walker and Rob Meier.

So where can I watch this on the internet?

Damn Tallahassee CBS

Thoughts on some of the Early Games

Tampa is looking REAL good. Who would have thought Parcells would have recovered the trainwreck that was Miami this fast? Same goes for Mike Smith and the Falcons.

Taking offense in the first round

every year from 2003-2006 is coming back to bite us.

by Ryan Rosenblatt on Oct 12, 2008 4:12 PM EDT reply actions

Not necessarily

We got guys like Daryl Smith and Rashean Mathis in the 2nd/3rd round.

And you need to get good players in the 2nd and 3rd rounds

like we did with Daryl and Rashean, but you need players from your 1st round picks. In 4 drafts we didn’t get a single first round pick on the defensive side of the ball and it’s coming back to bite us. It’s not to say the entire drafts were blown because we did get some good players on the defensive side, but I can’t think of a single team that could take 4 straight offensive players in the 1st round and not feel the effects of it.

On a positive note, we didn’t seem to have trouble passing the ball.

The Broncos D-line is pinching

and their linebackers are all right on the line.

Makes it easy for MJD to turn the corner and pick up 9

Fred hasn't gotten back out there

since the hit that caused him to lose the ball. Hopefully he’s not feeling the effects of the hit because he got squared up pretty good.

Offensively

The good:

Garrard looks sharp and we’ve found a lot of room underneath

The bad:

Every time we try to run, the line of scrimmage is pushed back into our backfield.

Another gift from Denver

The Broncos are driving, Marshall catches a ball and is down to the 10 when he drops the ball. If there was contact, it was minimal. It looked like he flat out dropped it. Florence picks it up and takes it back our own 25

A sneak gets us the first down on 3rd and a foot

It took David’s 3rd effort to get across. Our o-line not only doesn’t have a push, but they’re getting pushed back.

Need a little more Greg Jones

I think that the Jags just need to pound the rock up the middle with Greg Jones and mix a little play action with MJD and loosen up the passing game

Go Jags!

by freek1969 on Oct 12, 2008 4:59 PM EDT reply actions

Greg Jones gets a carry

and picks up 13. Our o-line looks better in the 2nd quarter and are at least creating running lanes off tackle.

by freek1969 on Oct 12, 2008 5:02 PM EDT reply actions

Estandia catches the ball and picks up enough for a 1st down

He fumbles when he hits the ground out of bounds. It was ruled incomplete and JDR challenges the ruling. It should be overturned.

All the credit on that drive goes to the offensive line

They opened up holes for Greg and MJD to run. Then when we aired it out Garrard had all day to throw. The o-line absolutely dominated the line of scrimmage on that drive.
