Garrard. The Manchild.
The guy gives me goose bumps. Not only is he one of the best up and coming QB's in the NFL, but he is one of the best character people in the league as well. He is a great role model, and continues to show his strength by fighting Crohn's disease. Just comment on how lucky we are to have a guy that makes critical runs and throws when we need him most.

I totally agree
Just think how much further along the Jags would be if they hadn’t wasted all that time on Byron Leftwich .

Except for the fact that...
If we all remember correctly, Garrard wasn’t exactly ready the first time he was handed the starting job a couple years ago.
Don’t get me wrong, he is certainly The Man now and hopefully for years to come. But it appears he needed that adversity to finally settle down and realize his full potential.

I think Garrard would have been ready if he had been given the starting job earlier. Every new quarterback needs a certain number of NFL snaps before they are comfortable and really hit their stride. If we had started Garrard sooner and never tried to develop Leftwich, Garrard might have become the quarterback he is now several years sooner, but who knows. Also, the controversy and the fear of being benched for the slightest mistake undoubtedly hurt both QB’s.
No sense in worrying about it now though, we have Garrard and he will probably continue to be successful for quite a few years since he has been abused as a starter for only one complete season.

I agree to a certain extent...
If you really consider what it was that took Garrard to make the push we would realize that not until Shula arrived did DG take off. Shula is known for his critique of QB mechanics, and when he identified and corrected that quick hop step in DG’s delivery that is when he really took off. Without Shula I’m afraid that Byron may still be on the roster, or we would have another QB on the roster (which wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing for the future).

The initial post is absolutely correct.
We are blessed to have a guy like Garrard as our quarterback. As a Jag fan since day one, I remember the glory days of Brunnell, and honestly, I’m just as excited to have David.
He’s strong, he never gives up, he plays with pride and respect for the game, and it’s funny as hell when we win a big game and he pulls out the pure gangster fedora.
Garrard, MJD and Freddie T. We’ve got a lot to be proud of as Jags fans right now. Let’s all hope for the best, let the nagging injuries heal, then blow out three wins after the bye.
GO JAGS!
Unfortunately, the truth only comes out game-by-game.

No worries man
Everybody gets up for the game to play against the reigning superbowl champs ,we will whip the Browns no problem.

IMO
Just the entire ordeal surrounding Leftwich and Garrard and Leftwich’s tenure as a whole makes him our worst 1st round pick this side of R Jay Soward.

Yes it was
It was such a waste of time. I think if Garrard would have been named the starter after Brunell went to Washington Jimmy Smith would have played for the Jaguars a couple more years. He knew Leftwich wasn’t going to get us to the superbowl so he retired.

Pete Prisco
Why does that guy berate David Garrard all the time? Did David do something to piss him off in the past or something?
by Kenzster on Oct 15, 2008 5:11 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
What did he say
do you have a website address?
by Ewdtrey on Oct 15, 2008 7:39 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Although Prisco does suck...
He would be the only one not bashing Byron. As already proven in this post. If you mention anything good about David, who totally rocks, in this town someone will crawl out from under a rock and say, “Yeah, that Leftwich guy sucks!” Even when that’s not the topic. They need to focus that hate on Prisco. He does totally suck at his job.

Role Model
I totally agree about that….
I admire him as a person and a team player as much as, or even more than i do as a player(and as a player I do admire him a lot).

Hey don't jinx him!
Pro athletes tend to let us down when we call them role models.
by Kenzster on Oct 17, 2008 1:13 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Good Point
If we keep calling him a role model he could even get on the cover of Madden, and that’ll be the end of the good team we have now

million dollar question...
do we draft a qb next year to develop him for 3 or 4 years like garrard did? the guy is already like 30
by jlana24 on Oct 17, 2008 5:03 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Absolutely
No question it has to be done
by SoCalStites on Oct 17, 2008 7:12 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Cleo Lemon
I thought thats what we are doing with Cleo Lemon. We paid him like he is going to be on this team for a while.Surely the jags won’t get rid of him after just one year.Right?
by Kenzster on Oct 17, 2008 10:16 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
No way
Cleo Lemon will probably be here another year just so we don’t have a rookie at #2, which is kind of a scary thought, but do you really think Cleo is the future starting quarterback of the Jaguars? He’s not even that young anyway
by SoCalStites on Oct 18, 2008 2:01 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
He's about Garrard's age so he's only a backup
We don’t have to draft somone this year, but it suuurrrreee wouldn’t hurt. lol
Sometime soon though.

Don't you guys know
The plan is to pull a Ditka and trade away the whole draft to get the #1 draft pick and get Tebow when he comes out ;).
Seriously though, Garrard maybe close to 30 but he spent most of that time on the bench. IMO, he still has atleast another 5-6 good years left in him.

I hope we draft Tebow...

If Tebow does come out
I’ll devote an entire column to him come draft season. With or without by Garnet and Gold glasses I’m not very high on him. He relies on the guy who I think will take the NFL by storm the way everyone thought Reggie Bush would, Percy Harvin.

Also, in case the comment went over people's heads
The bit about drafting Tebow was a sarcastic remark referencing the fact somebody always asks Vic if the Jags will take some local college star.

I agree FSBlue
what round do you think we will draft a qb?
by harveyismyboy on Oct 18, 2008 11:43 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I'd guess 3rd or 4th
That would be the time when the huge names are gone and the solid middle of the pack guys are there. I don’t see Tebow developing into a success in the pro game.

I'm not in favor of drafting a QB right now

bleh hitting the post button too soon
Anyways, if we did use a mid-round draft pick on a QB to develope as Garrard’s eventual successor, a guy I like is Graham Harrell. Yeah he played in Texas Tech’s offense, but he is a solid QB regardless.

Maybe Miami will take him...
And use him in the hybrid offense they’re running down there these days…
by pksiv on Oct 20, 2008 2:41 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Unlikely
By the time Tebow comes out the Wildcat formation will be foiled by knowledgeable defenses.
by Ewdtrey on Oct 21, 2008 6:08 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Too late already
Baltimore already showed that it can be figured out. Miami wont find much more success with the Wildcat the rest of this season.

Although, I wanted Miami to win....
I am glad somebody popped that college crap in the mouth. Bye, bye, Wildcat, we won’t miss ya’.

I haven't seen any QB's
I would really like on the team next year. I really wanted to see Josh Johnson on the team. I’m gonna blame that on qb collecting Tampa Bay.

If we were ever gonna' trade up in the draft,
(to be read in Goodell’s voice)….“THE FIRST PICK IN THE 2009 DRAFT HAS BEEN TRADED BY THE DETROIT LIONS TO THE JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS, WHO SELECT …. COLT MCCOY FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS”.
(Jaguar fans rejoice)
A couple of years behind David, he could win us ‘another’ Superbowl. (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)

(to be announced by Chris Berman)
“AND IT APPEARS THE JAGUARS HAVE TRADED RB MAURICE JONES-DREW AND THEIR FIRST ROUND PICK TO THE LIONS TO MOVE UP TO THE TOP SPOT”
(Jaguar fans boo loudly)

Drew happy, Me sad.

More than that
to get to the top spot…unfortunately. I agree, McCoy could be great, but yea, an impossible trade. The only way the Jags get to the top spot is to loose the remaining games this year and hope the lions can win 3 or 4 game, both highly unlikely.
