Troy Williamson
Man, that cat can sure run ! I loved that play where he and Garrard hooked up for like a 69 yard pass this past Sunday. It would have been nice if it counted but it was still exciting to see and dream of the big plays to come from Him and David Garrard hooking up in the future. I know when we traded for him everybody said he was a bust in Minnesota but I don't remember ever seeing him play for the Vikings. Did he ever have big plays for them like he did for the Jags against the Broncos? People say he can't catch but it seems to me that he catches David Garrards passes just fine. I don't think he is going to be a bust here in Jacksonville, What do you think?

In Minnesota
Troy Williamson couldn’t judge the deep ball and he was constantly running to the wrong place and he also managed to drop alot of very catchable balls. Personally, I think the hype was a problem for him and he was expected to be a huge star and when he didn’t step into that role immeadiately he was labeled as a bust. The pass on Sunday for 69 was a huge convincer to me that he isn’t the same guy as before. I know it was only one play but I believe he’ll be the player Minnesota thought he’d be.

however..
There where a couple of plays where he was supposed to block a guy while Mojo ran the ball……….. And just couldnt……
I know he´s no Reggie but I recall two plays like that when he was handled easily by the Cb…

Good ol Troy
“It would have been nice if it counted but it was still exciting to see and dream of the big plays to come from Him and David Garrard hooking up in the future.”
All I can say is dont dream too much.
I didnt give up on him for years in Minnesota, but finally I just had to.
He would drop just about everything that came his way.
I think that the pressure of being known as butterfingers was too much for him to handle.
"I know when we traded for him everybody said he was a bust in Minnesota but I don’t remember ever seeing him play for the Vikings. "
Oh he played alright…just never did anything. The Vikings fanbase wanted him to be good and rooted for him all of the time, until his last year. That famous drop in the last game against Denver was the nail in the coffin. Trust me when I say that we had plenty of hope for the boy.
"Did he ever have big plays for them like he did for the Jags against the Broncos?People say he can’t catch but it seems to me that he catches David Garrards passes just fine. "
He never really had anything that stands out to me because it was consumed by all of the drops. What did he do against the Broncos that counted anyways? I looked at his stats but it only says that he has 2 receptions in 2 games for 11 yards. Has that not been updated yet? I didnt see the game.
“I don’t think he is going to be a bust here in Jacksonville, What do you think?”
Well, I dont blame you for having hope…but I would bet money that he will be a bust. He is just a poor receiver.
"Personally, I think the hype was a problem for him and he was expected to be a huge star and when he didn’t step into that role immeadiately he was labeled as a bust. "
I agree with you that the hype was a problem. He took over Randy Moss’ spot so the pressure was high. However, he was given over 2 years to perform and then…that is when the fanbase turned on him. That is not too immediate in my mind.

Well from watching him
in the short time he’s played with us, even though he hasn’t seen the field much he’s caught all but one pass and that was during the preseason. He’s also adjusted well to the deep ball, which I could tell was one of his bigger problems with the Viks. The only reason he hasn’t seen the field, I speculate, is because he isn’t a great blocker and our oline isn’t blocking long enough to throw downfield which is the only reason why he would be used considering our other receivers strengths are at the short and medium length passes. Also Garrard isn’t the best down field passer, however he’s not bad, but he’s also not asked to go downfield all that much with the offensive gameplans we usually have.

Disregard the post by sackmelf
He’s a Vikings fan and obviously is biased. You don’t know the situation in Jax bro. He’s gonna be fine, considering he in a much better situation with Garrard and all MINN has is shit QB’s. We only had to give up a 6 rounder, who wouldnt have made the team.

To Harvey is my boy:
Am I biased?
Well I love the Vikes like you love the Jags…but biased of what?
I didn’t mean to come off as bashing in the slightest bit so sorry if you interpreted it that way.
You are correct in saying that I do not know what is going on down in Jax, but I know Troy Williamson better than you from the years of watching him. I have watched 40+ games with him playing, that is where my experience comes into play.
When he left to Jax, I was happy to get rid of him, but also happy that he would be working with Tice and that he would have another chance in the NFL.
I am STILL rooting for the kid…seriously. (not against the Vikes…but every other game)
I honestly felt sad for the guy because he was always so frustrated with himself.
As for the Vikes QB situation…you are also correct: they have sucked since Daunte Culpepper ripped up the league.
Having Gerrard, another player that I like, should help Troy do something if indeed he ever is going to.
Was he worth a 6th round pick?
Not yet.
But if I were the Jags, I would have taken the chance as well, because as you know…he has some crazy speed.
So, settle down Harv, don’t get so animated when a fan of the opposition comes to converse with you. We are not all A-holes.
Peace,
Sackman

Was he worth a 6th round pick?
Absolutely. If you look at it from a draft perspective, by the 6th round teams are just looking for players who can make the team. Williamson proved himself worthy of a roster spot and hasn’t dropped anything so far. Worth it

Thanks SackMeIfYouCan
I asked for information about Troy Williamson from someone who knew how he played in Minnesota because I don’t know much about him except what I hear from the media. You as a passionate Vikings fan answered my question from a fans perspective and thats exactly what I wanted. I know how you feel because as a jags fan I have felt the same way at one point or another through the years about the Jags first round draft choices when they drafted wide recievers Reggie Williams and Matt Jones. It now looks like both of those guys turned out to be productive players for the Jags but most of us Jags fans doubted they would be after they each took 2 or 3 years to get going. The coaches did a good job with those guys ,hopefully they will do The same with Williamson. I predict he has a huge game against the Vikings when we play you. Go Jags!

Gotta give em time
Matt Jones took 4 years to come around and figure it all out. So I’m seeing the guy played 3 years right? We’ll see what he can do. Sometimes WR’s drop balls. If he drops a bunch later, we’ll all call foul. Till then, the guy looks like a WR, smells like a WR, we’ll see if can catch like one.
