Post Browns Thoughts

Wow what a bitter pill to swallow.. However, I am not going to start saying our season is over after week 8. I will say that our division chances are pretty much over, but we still have a great chance to get a wildcard spot. Without Tom Brady in the league, the AFC really is wide open. Ahead of us, for the wildcard, are the Jets, Patriots, Colts, and Ravens. Hopefully we can get 2 more wins out of our next two games, but what we thought were gimmes aren’t, so we cannot say that.

Observations

Positives

- Matt Jones is turning into a star receiver. Had he held onto that ball at the end of the game, he would be the new breakout star in the NFL. He would have had 143 yards, 9 receptions, and 2 TD’s as opposed to his 118, 8 rec, 1 TD.

- Garrard is showing us that he is THE MAN. He is willing to do whatever it takes to for our team to win. That didnt happen today, but he looked amazing. I have plenty of confidence with him, and his relationship with Matt Jones looks like its blossoming.

- Our second half defense.

Negatives

- Our first half defense

- Special teams. we had a blocked field goal, fumble on a kickoff, and we really didnt have any explosive returns.

- Quentin Groves 2 critical offsides..

Matt Jones

What’s the deal with Matt? Is he gonna play next week?

Tuesday

Is when we’ll probably see Goodell hand out the suspension which is supposedly three games.

I hope the appeal wasn't entirely in vain....

that would suck for us. He would miss the Titans game.

Appeal

Hopefully the appeal process is as described by the gang on Jags This Week. Matt will have to prostrate himself before Tsar Goodell and plead for leniency. This act seems to be an automatic 1 week reduction in sentence.

Wild Card?

Great chance to get a wild card into the playoffs??? That’s not accurate. I’d say we have a pretty terrible chance to get a wild card considering our conference record is 3-4, and those losses all came to potential wild card contenders that would cause us to be edged out of the playoffs in tie-breaker situations.

No, our chances of making the playoffs are actually very slim. We will have to win 10 games and most likely 11 games to get a wild card. Does anyone see us doing that?

Hey, I love the Jaguars more than just about anything but I’m just going to sit back and watch the games from here on out. Not worried about making the playoffs, not worried even about if we win or lose. Hope for the wins, but enjoy football season cause it sucks when football is over.

huh?

Terrible chance? Perhaps I am just not as pessimistic as you are. Of our 4 losses, 3 are division leaders (Bills, Titans, Steelers). If they continue their dominance, then we do not need to worry about those head to head tiebreakers. So, as of right now, our competitors for a wild card spot are:
(numbers in parenthesis are conf. rec.)
Patriots (5-2) (3-2)
NY Jets (4-3) (3-3)
Baltimore (4-3) (4-3)
Miami (3-4) (3-3)
Cleveland (3-4) (2-2)
Houston (3-4) (2-4)
Indianapolis (3-3) (2-1)
San Diego (3-5) (3-3)

as opposed to us (3-4)(3-4)

SO, looking at that, Patriots look like they could easily get one o the wildcard spots, but they didn’t look great against the Rams this past week.

Other than that.. who, from that group, can you say will dominate the rest of their schedule and win 11 games? I dont think any of them will. I also think its a stretch for the Jets to go 6-3 or Baltimore to go 6-3 and finish 10-6. I really think that 9-7 will get you in the playoffs this year. If we do our job, and beat teams we are supposed to beat, we will get in.

Dont give up, its week 8.

nailed it

Reggie in your last post I think you nailed it. When looking at those teams, I REALLY DO NOT SEE one single team that is impressive and think that all of them are likely to falter. Indy may stay in, and the Pats due to their schedule, but cleveland is not good, houston won’t last, and baltimore the jets and miami are just not capable of winning week in and week out. I may be worng, but I think the jags can if Jack gets our boys’ minds in the fuc*in game!

I am not giving up!!

But…. I am not going to get my hopes up either. After having a wonderful year last year, and all of the expectations coming into this year… I have now tempered my enthusiasm. I am taking this one game at a time, and hope for the best each week. Although these stats are encouraging, I’m not buying until we become more consistent on D, and the run game starts rolling.

i guess you're right

I was pretty mad this morning on that post, and I still don’t think we have a “good” shot at a wild card (right now at least). Maybe if we win our next 3 games we will have a good shot. Who knows? but as a fan I’m backing the Jags either way and hoping for the best. Just not expecting the best.

If we can find a way to get our front 4 to put some heat on opposing QB’s, and we can at least get our run game moving at an average pace, David has shown he’s good enough to do the rest and win games.

I think we can officially call Porter a bust...

the only action he gets is a dropped ball on a crucial 3rd down…way to earn that money buddy

don't forget...

the ball thrown to him in the end-zone on the last drive. You know the one where the entire Browns defense was a foot away from him. And he almost got to it.

Is that like only the fourth ball thrown to him all year?

Saw the Matt Jones Play.......

I didnt have the chance to watch the game this sunday, as I was away from home, but I left the game recording, And I have not seen it yet, however y Fast forwarded the video to the last 3 plays………..

And man, that would have been hard if I saw it live…………..

Knowing the result of the play and the game, that play even got me out of my seat, into my knees and into a frenetic 1-2 punch to the floor……………

That play just comes down to 1 thing…..

Garrard is THE man in the Jaguars……….. That pump fake and then the great throw…………
Just wished our Defense didn’t suck so hard, and maybe we could be talking better things like where could we buy SB tickets……….

Really, if our D just hadn’t given up the leads our Offense delivers and played just a bit above average we would be right now 6-1 winning all but the Titans game…………..

haha

I love hearing the reactions of my fellow jags brothers when we have a play that doesnt go our way. " frenetic 1-2 punch to the floor". Its good to know that I’m not the only one that basically puts all my god dam* emotions into every game. I have an extreme Love/ hate relationship with this team, as do all of us I’m sure. Garrard’s run was unbelievable. I jumped off my couch and screamed, “That’s my fuc*in boy!”

but...

I thought harvey was your boy?… lol, just kidding. I too share your emotional rollercoaster during the game. I swear, i’m 29 but I can almost feel a heart attack coming everytime I watch the Jags. I’m scared of what it will be like when I’m watching Jaguar football when I’m 60!!! I may not make it til then!!!
