Gregg Williams won't be here next year.
The only reason Gregg Williams is a coach on the Jaguars team this year is because the Jaguars are not having to pay his salary. Gregg Williams salary is still being paid by the Washington Redskins this year. It was already known that the Jaguars probably wouldn't be able to afford to keep Williams on as a coach next year because his salary now is about the same as Jack Del Rio's salary as head coach. Now that the Jaguars defense is playing so much worse this year under Gregg Williams than they did with Mike Smith as the defensive coordinator, there is no way Williams will be here next season.

Dude, you better be right or we will be pulling Jag fans out of traffic later.

You know what
I agree he hasn’t lived up to his billing, but I think our D is still getting better from week to week. Not only that but I think he’s still trying to find out how to use our personnel best. The wrap on the D before these last couple of weeks was that we kept on letting people drive down on us late in games. I was proud to see how well they did after the Spoony funble even though they were on the field a lot just moments earlier when they put together another crazy stop.
I agree that our D is getting better from week to week, albiet a bit slower than we’d like.
I’d have to disagree on the notion that he’s still trying to find out how to use the players in the best fashion. I understand what you’ve said, I just have a respectful difference of opinion.
Anyhow, he’s paid (by someone) to figure that well BEFORE the freakin’ season starts. Sure, there will be a tweak here and there, but I will not give him anymore time to get it right.
I’m also tired of the coaching staff stating that “we are almost there”, or “we didnt bring our A game today” (which I really really HATE for any professional player/coach to say). I don’t think I’m overboard in thinking and feeling that I pay good money to watch a game wherein every person on that field is putting forth the absolute best effort. Right now, I just don’t see it. I still have faith. If you lose faith overall, we’re all sunk. IMHO.

I just get pissed off...
with all the local media and their supposed great knowledge of the game. This morning they were bitching about Drew getting only 2 yards per carry in the game. Well, I was there, too and I’m pretty sure when most of your carries in the second half are 3rd and 1, THAT S%!T HAPPENS! HELL, look at the great argument these local guys gave on Bettis and would he make the HOF. They were like, " He only has 3.8 yards per carry for his career". Really, you mean a guy who spent the last 5 years of his career being the ’ punch it in guy ’ or ’ 4th and1 guy ’ has low yards per carry? How can that be! They are idiots who only read the stats right before their show airs. Most of the ones in this area are not even Jaguar fans. I’m gonna’ start looking for broadcast openings in THEIR teams’ towns. Then I’m gonna’ email them the job openings. Do you think they can figure out what that means?!!

Yeah, our defence has gone from 32nd to 30th.... Great improvement
There were not many Crazy stops either… Cleavelands offence is barely average at best.
Not to be pessimistic, but our defense sucks.
I can see the writing on the wall.
If the Jags don’t show any significant improvement the rest of this season, they are going to go into a rebuilding phase and we are really going to have sucky records for a few years like the Titans just had.
Wow....Wow....Wow.....
Rebuilding Phase???
Sorry mate, but I think you kind of overreacted with that comment……….
Maybe try to restructure the Defense (cause our offense when healthy, is above average in all aspects), get an Ok Cb to replace James, get an ok backup FS, get a good MLB to at least place competition in that position, Get a Good Punter and for Christ’s Sake get a Cover 2 minded DC!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our D was born in Cover2 and passed its childhood and teenage years in that why change that now!?!?!?!?
About Gregg Williams……….. He can just take his 1.125 sacks a game and shove it you know where……….
I hope you are right
I don’t thing this team can afford to have losing seasons right now. This year we haven’t had to really worry about blackouts, but if we start losing again the blackouts will be back along with all the negative national press we always get when it happens. Right or wrong Gregg Williams will be the fall guy this year if the Jags continue to suck.
I think Hayward has actually played pretty damn well when he is in the game. he’s old, but he fights. He’s in the backfield more than others. I would not mind the other two leaving. It really pisses me off that spicer held out and made us pay 4 mill a year and he aint doing jack shi*. I feel like we should draft a linbacker next year, maybe in 3rd round.
I'm not too down on the linebackers
I believe the root of the problem is the terrible play by the front four. We have some good depth at linebacker and if we draft one it should be because a good one is availble, like a Thomas Williams situation rather than targeting the position like the DE draft we had this year.
Nothing against Rob meier but...
The jags sure could use another Marcus Stroud. We should have never traded that dude.
Turth be told
with our luck, he would be injured by now. He couldn’t stay on the field the past couple of years. With those picks however we could have gotten someone like Kris Jenkins who’s been tearing it up this season and was aquired with similar picks by the Jets. Granted that would have meant even fewer picks and no Groves who might end up becoming one of the 3 best passrushers of his draft. Heck he was almost worth picking just so the Steelers, Colts, or the Chargers (and etc) couldn’t have him. Go back and take a look at all the D linemen picked this year. It’s astonishing how little all of them have done. Only Chris Long has done more than Groves so far and Lawrence Jackson (who’s regressing having fewer stats and lost his starting job even, got most all his stats early against a weak SF team), Phillip Merling, Jason Jones, Kendall Langford, and Trevor Scott (more of a flash in the pan) all have about the same production as Groves. And I think only Chris long has more potential.
To me Groves looks like a slightly smaller James Harrison(pitt). They have similar speed, agility, strength(Groves has a little less but he will build on that as he gets older, and bigger), and almost an identical bull rush. Groves is unlikely to put up the sacks that Harrison has, but I think that will be somewhat a consequence of their systems (a blitzing 3-4 vs a conservative tampa 2 4-3).
I totally agree Ewdtrey, Excellent points all around.
It’s not often that pass-rushers make an immediate impact. Gaines Adams, drafted 4th overall by Tampa two years ago only had six sacks his rookie season, and look where he’s at today. Mario “the bust” WIlliams had a horrible first year, and now he’s a beast. It takes time to adjust to the pros, people. Harvey and Groves will find their groove, the draft is for the future, remember that. Our biggest miss this year was Jerry Porter. If we had just a few more points in even 1 or 2 games, our record is completely different. He was supposed to be the “Man”. Smitty re-incarnated… James Harris (I’m a big fan of his) missed big on that acquisition. Our defense is getting used to a new coordinator and system, and the team isn’t molded to be an attack style D yet. If Williams stays another year then I bet we’ll improve vastly in his system. If we make another change at DC then we’ll have adjustment problems as guys try to learn yet another system… decisions decisions. Let’s hope the D clicks in the next two weeks and we make the playoffs so it isn’t even an issue.
Chris got his hands on an old playbook of Gregg’s and gave me a copy of it… The play design is solid and the blitzing schemes are complex. The middle Linebacker plays a huge role, and Mike P just isn’t filling it. The MLB is supposed to read the offensive line-up and determine immediately who his man is becasue it changes from RB to TE to Slot to Zone based on the offensive set-up. The pressures require the MLB to read the line-up and blitz from specific areas depending on how many RB’s and TE’s in the play and their position on the field… relally complicated

Both of these last comments are fabulous
I have been watching both Groves and Harvey during the games and they are showing something. Both, however, get taken to the outside and can’t shed the block, but in time they will learn. I’m not off them yet.
