This team is stacking up on suck.

The Jags have done so many odd things in the off season over the last few years that it is really starting to show. Just look back three years, why draft a TE in the 1st round? We didnt need him yet. 2 years ago we go for  Justin Durant in the 2nd rd. He might turn out to be a good player but he did play for a Div 2 college so the odds that he will be great arent good. You dont waste that high of a pick on that. Then last year we trade all those picks for two DE's that as of yet are playing like crap. I know that they still need more time and possibly will not contribute until next year but still, was it worth it? Why did we sign Porter when there were better guys out there? Why have we not added some quality youth to the O-Line? Why why why. These are only a few of the issues that I see but there are more I could name. There are a few bright spots this year, Garrard and Jones, but thats about it. This new exciting defense is not so exciting. I dont think there is any other option. Its time for some coaches and GM's to go.

Don't forget out brightest spot....

Josh Scobee. 2 game winners, a couple over 50 and some kick-ass tackles.

Disagree on the Justin Durant point

He actually played in a Div 1AA school and guys that dominate at their level and are drafted high usually end up as good players. How’s this for a list of guys who came out of 1AA schools:
Steve McNair
Donald Driver
Matt Birk
Wayne Chrebet
Lance Schulters
Dwayne Carswell
Mike Flynn
Marcel Shipp
Jerry Azumah
Kurt Warner
Terrence McGee
Mike Green
Shawn Barber
Lonnie Paxton
Josh McCown
Orlando Brown
Adam Timmerman
Steve Heiden
Adam Vinatieri
Jerry Wilson
Leo Araguz
Derrick Blaylock
Jeremiah Trotter
Terrell Owens
Brent Alexander
Michael Strahan
Brian Westbrook
Brian Finneran
Willie Williams
Rodney Harrison
Darren Sharper
Jeff Wilkins
Randy Moss
Chad Pennington
Troy Brown
and we definitely can’t forget about:
Rashean Mathis
Brad Meester
and of course Jimmy Smith

Durant

I disagree also with your point of view……

However I do agree that we needed to add some youth to our OL………..

But yes, this Offseason apparently has been a complete Disaster…..

Drayton Florence S-U-C-K-S ! ! ! ! ! ! !…….

Gregg Williams…….. You just cant hide the sun with a finger……….. the fact that the jaguar Defense appeared during the 4th Q doesnt mean anything else than this Defense SUCKS………… there’s no deal with a defense that lets you die 3Qs and makes 3 great stops in the 4th…………. Plus the 4 blown leads in the 4thQ vs the Bills, the Colts, Texans and Steelers, plus the ONLY 9 sacks!!!!!! We are the 3rd from bottom to Top in sacks in the entire NFL……………………

Our Draft Picks better be in the path of becoming 2nd year greats, otherwise this would be the worst offseason buisness the teams has ever done……..

Granted, we didn’t know Matt Jones would do so so so well this year, but I feel so sad/dissapointed we wasted hope and investment in Porter. I hope he gets it together. At lest next year he can get a fresh start. We’ll see then.

Thanks Socal

I meant to write AA but typoed that one. Thanks for the correction and the list. My point on Durant though is that it is a risk to pick him so high. Was there no other players out there? I also agree that Florence is garbage, the Chargers let him go for a reason. I apologize for not mentioning Scobee, he is the man.

Here's my take

I may be displaying my ignorance here, but for what it’s worth, this is my take on how the team is shaping up.

First off, I’m as disappointed as anyone to be 3-4. I honestly expected more. I was also depressed as hell when the game VS the Browns ended (I stayed up until 1:20am my time to listen to this???)

We have lost 4 games narrowly, we have been whipped by nobody. 3 of those loses are against teams that are looking good for division titles. The Browns are NOT a bad team (ask the Giants) and are probably going to suprise quite a few teams over the rest of the season. We have done lots of good things, and made a few mistakes in each loss. Doesn’t change the game results, but we have not been comprehensively outplayed by anyone. That is truly something to hold onto – injuries and all, we have displayed potential to do lots better.

If things had gone differently (and I’m talking minor stuff here – a dropped catch, a pass 1 inch lower, a tackle made etc etc.) we could be either 7-0 or 0-7. In short, all our losses AND wins have been competitive games. Would you want the NFL any different, honestly??

Our defence has sucked, so far…. but only in parts of each game. A bit of injury, a bit of re-adjustment to new coaches and strategy, a few mistakes, whatever. Players DO seem to be missing tackles and giving away penalties too often, and that’s something that needs to be addressed. We are not doing a good job of sacking the QB. I don’t know enough to be able to critique individual players, but I trust Jeff Lageman when he says that both Groves and Harvey are coming along (and yes, I’m also impatiently waiting for this progress to turn into production). The Browns might have displayed some flaws during the season so far but, from what I gather, protecting the QB has not been one of them. Did we all really expect our 2 rookie DEs to beat the crap out of Anderson, because on paper we had a better record???

Our defence has made 2 or 3 big (and costly) mistakes in each of our losses, but they do actually seem to be getting better with each game. Maybe I’m being overly optimistic, but I forsee things getting better and better as the season progreses. Our D is not quite as bad as some people make it out to be. We have not been destroyed by anybody, despite all the mistakes.

Offensively, we have been… weird. Garrard is getting better and better, and our WRs are outproducing our RBs. Who would of thought it? I’ve seen people complain on various forums that we are passing too much, and losing our team identity. I don’t get it. If the rush isn’t working, why the hell would you continue to pound your head against an immovable wall? Take what the defense gives you. If passing works, why the hell not pass?

Yeah, I know… this is sacriledge as far as Jaguars football goes. I personally prefer to watch running plays than passing plays, but I prefer to see my Jags actually moving the chains too. I don’t know why the running game has gone out the window (and I’d like to see it come back, please!) but I’m pleasantly suprised to see the WRs (well, Matt Jones) take up the slack.

Still, either way, our offense has been productive. We’ve scored enough points to be competitive in all our games. The only real disappointments so far (excluding the lack of effective running) have been Porter’s lack of production and Marcedes Lewis dropping so many catches.

Soooo… do we suck? I don’t think so. We might not have a dominant team, which does suck, but we are “there and there abouts”. I no longer go into games thinking “we should win this”, but I’ve not reached the point where I think “we will lose this” either. This team has potential. Whether we do anything with it this year or not remains to be seen.

How very well said Keith...

I would love nothing more than for the Jags to line up the the Wishbone with 2 TE’s every play and smash it down the other teams throat. I LOVE run-plays. If Run-plays were a woman, I’d marry her (if I wasn’t already married). :)

Bottom line is we have to find a way to win, and we won’t be running the ball until we can consistency pull some guys out of the box, our O-line is just not getting the same push up the middle without Vince Manuwai.
