Positive Thinking
Now that it's Tuesday and the bitter taste in my mouth has finally worn off, I thought it would be appropriate to do some positive thinking...
1. The Jags were the trendy pick to upend the Colts in the AFC South and many expert's pick to make it to the Super Bowl. But through Week 5 there are some new things that have come to fruition that we just didn't know before the season started. Everyone thought that the Titans and Bills were going to be mediocre, they were wrong. Think about it, the three teams we've lost too are a combined 13-2 with our worst loss being only 7 points. Every game we've played so far has been close, which I believe is the biggest positive of all. This team is being battle hardened early, and has shown the ability (and has the QB) to come from behind and win close games. The Patriots didn't have these types of games last year and it ultimately hurt them. I have a very good feeling about the Denver game because I believe we are going to be able to run it and keep the ball out of their offense's hands. Our next few games are very winnable and we have a much needed bye squeezed in there.
2. I will be the first one to admit our defense has been terrible. But from what I saw Sunday there were flashes of a pass rush. Now while it wasn't a whole lot, at least we it was an improvement from the Houston game. Mathis' interception was directly correlated with our d-lineman getting in Ben's face and if he doesn't make the two miracle plays with our guys drapped over him, the game is very different. Also, the more Harvey plays the more he will improve, I'm seeing it already, give the guy a little time. Mario Williams needed a whole year before he lived up to his hype.
3. We have been plauged by injuries. Nelson and Drayton should be back next week and Meester will hopefully be back. Drayton has proven his contract worth this year because our secondary is SO much better with him in there. Will "you cover anything?" James is just terrible and Brian Williams is a much better safety.
4. Receivers. Matt Jones is a dependable possession receiver. Mike Walker is an emerging number one receiver. At least 2 of these guys are starting to step up.
5. When we run we win, but also when we can't run the ball very well the Jags have shown they can stay in it relying on Dave Garrard. He is truly the MVP of this team and has shown we can ride him if we need too.
6. IT'S STILL EARLY. A ton of things can change, the Pats season changed in 4 minutes. The Titans season changed (for the better) the minute Vince Young got hurt. I mean if we make it to the Titans home game at 6-3 this is a whole new ballgame. JUST GOTTA BELIEVE BABY
7. We burned a few terrible towels at our tailgate last weekend.
I know I'm probably drinking the koolaide but don't throw these guys under the bus yet. Maybe next week, but not yet.

Hey
Agreed. We need more positive posts like this.

I agree
Every number on here was completely true, well maybe not #7 for me, but i’m still glad to hear it. My favorite was #6 and I was amazed at how many times I heard that stupid Pittsburgh super bowl song. It’s week 5 and we’re already talking about the season being over, while Steeler fans are buying tickets to the Super Bowl. There are still 12 weeks to go with alot of shenanigans yet to come. We need to stay positive and enjoy the season yet to come.

Yeah, I agree.
I don’t understand the fans that I have heard saying, " Man that game was horrible". I had a great time and not only enjoyed every great play the Jags made, but I also had great back and forth razzing going on with the Steeler fans behind me. That’s why we get season tickets. If losing makes you not enjoy the game then try cheering for a team that only wins one game all season. (for example: in 1988 my high school won only one game. They have since won many State titles and 2 National Championships. You have to be there in the good and the bad…… and the bad.) I will love my team regardless of record. GO JAGS!!!!!!!!

Those were a lot of good points
I’m willing to back. If you didn’t say them I would have spread them through out the different threads and etc…
I agree the defense let us down in all of the prior games, but I don’t blame them for this recent loss, at least not in the second half. You can’t expect a D to keep a team scoreless with a QB pulling rabbits out of hats and the fact that our O didn’t score for the last ~11 mins of the game and they weren’t even helping by extending drives reducing the Pitt chances on O.
I believe the D played admirably in the second half. In that second half we kept the Steel O scoreless for all but 1 min and 58 seconds.
I believe we learned we can count on B Will at CB and Prioleau at Safety.
Sensy looks much improved. He was stopping the run better, he’s been better in coverage deep, and he played well when he had to man up, and he even got to the QB a couple of times hitting him as he made some throws and making him throw the ball prematurely other times.
Our LB’s played better, and Mike Pete played like he was young and mad again. He was hitting people hard and getting off blocks I didn’t think were possible for him.
Harvey has the quickest first step of any lineman, on any team, I’ve watched this year. Once he learns to dip his shoulder a little better his sacks will start to come on. The guy is wicked fast off the ball. It’s not just ability either. He’s got his timing down, and he was even demanding double teams at times.
Groves is a player, simple as that. He’s just a player. He rushes to the ball, he hits the QB without hitting him late which he had chances of doing, he gets around the corner quickly and has the speed to chase people down.
John Henderson showed some life even and so did Paul Spicer and Hayward. Hayward looked a little slower than he has been recently but he was fighting. It may have something to do with the hammy he pulled earlier in the weak.
Durant looked fast again. He was flying around so much so I think he gave life to other players around him. Smith was a little disappointing though.
Also special teams played well, given their chances. Heck even Scobee made a tackle at the 25 yard line. Which isn’t great field position for us considering how well we usually stop returns, but you don’t usually see kickers make tackles until about midfield or even further back.

Great Points on all counts!
Look! I’ve been very critical of this Defense, and I would like to say that it is the scheme that we have tried to implement. After 5 games this D has been shredded by all opposing qb’s with the exception of the Titans. This is further proof that if you don’t have the players then the scheme is is rendered useless.
With that being said it was good to see B Will back at CB, and to see the some resemblance of our former D. I think that we are going to see more of the cover 2 that our guys are familiar with, and see more of a pass rush as a result. It was pretty clear that it was working the other night. The stats and the scoring proved it. The question that this brings about is… Can GW perform the same magic with a cover 2 scheme. I believe the answer is yes, and it WILL be evident this weekend. Denver is a pass happy team, and by making them one dimensional, I believe we will see a ball hawking defense with atleast 2 picks. With anywhere from 3-4 sacks, and alot of pressure in long down and distance situations.
I say this with confidence, and expect our O to play keep away (ALA Colts style) from the Denver O. While the ground game gets reved up.
a lot of games left, so let’s not falter now.

I was watching ESPN this morning
And one of the analysts (sorry I forgot who), said the Jaguars and the Chargers are the two teams that shouldn’t panic and should just be patient. That kind of made me warm and fuzzy inside

I'll be
warm and fuzzy when D. Harvey is drapped… no, bringing down Jay Cutler. Jags D drapped Big Ben, it’s time for the QB to go down hard!

Hey jlana24...
Good points and good encouragement for the troops.
Oh and , I don’t want to see anybody thrown under the bus….. I’d just like to see it pull away without Gregg Williams. Ya’ know like pretend your getting a Coke and a Mounds candy bar and wait until he goes in to the bathroom, then run and get on the bus and take off.
