Interesting observation

KC Joyner has a few blurbs about week 12's NFL games.

Star-divide

I believe he has a good point about the Jaguars, which adds to the mystique surrounding what may happen in the offseason. I still feel weird talking, or thinking about, the offseason already. Such is life in the National Football League, eh?

Of course, I'm sure you want to actually read what he had to say, right? Yeah, I thought so. Well, head right here for the full article. If you're a bit lazy, like me, read on a little bit more if you don't want to read his whole blog.

To quote from the New York Times NFL Blog, this is what he had to say specifically about our Jaguars.

" That the Jacksonville Jaguars have lost two straight games isn’t a big surprise, but I have to say that it is surprising how they have lost. The Jags are built to win smashmouth, tough-guy contests, but they were pushed around by Tennessee and Minnesota. The Titans and Vikings have two of the smashmouthiest (TFS coins a new word) rosters in the league, so it isn’t necessarily a pejorative to be physically worn down by them, but the Jaguars just didn’t look to be in their league. The Jaguars have leaned so heavily on strength that it was bound to come back to haunt them when they faced teams that could handle their power and they could not mount an effective non-strength-based counterattack. It looks as if that day has come and it may be a signal that they need to do some serious retooling of the roster. "

The sentences in bold were highlighted by me.

We were bounced around by Miami in the preseason

I think the observation that we need to retool is correct. Unfortunately it is probably as much a head coaching and staff problem as a player problem.

I agree that some of it definitely has to do with the coaching also. I am incredibly tired of hearing “Gee, we didn’t bring our A-game today” … or “Yeah, it’s bad. We’ll learn from it and get better.” …. Aaaargh! But, I still follow my Jaguars faithfully. Win or lose.

I bet this is the last time we'll hear about a "soft" training camp

No more movies and bowling during camp, time to toughen this team up again. Our Strength and conditioning coaches need to step it up and really bulk up our new DE’s for next year. Mike Walker has got to improve his lower body strength too, the guy has got to do some exercises to strength his legs to decrease his chance of injury, we can’t afford to have him missing as many games next season or he’ll never develop.
