Gregg Williams to be fired
This is Paul Kuharsky's article on his AFC South Blog...
Jacksonville Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver and coach Jack Del Rio will shake things up on the field, in the front office and with the coaching staff after a disappointing season, sources told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen.
The first change involves defensive coordinator Gregg Williams not returning to Jacksonville. A one-year marriage to Williams is headed for divorce, sources told ESPN.
Philosophically, it hasn't worked, and it wasn't an expensive hire because Williams had one year left at more than $2 million when he was let go by the Washington Redskins.
Williams could reunite with Jeff Fisher in Tennessee if Titans defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz lands a head-coaching job in the offseason.

I think it would be a mistake
… to fire Williams. The D has been improving throughout the season, and I think our defensive players have more to do with our problems than Gregg Williams.
I agree
Give the guy 2 or 3 years, at least a CHANCE to do well. As Vic has explained, our numbers on defense are not that far off from last year. Everyone is quick to blame the defense but the offense hasn’t done anything this year either, which hurts the defense when they’re on the field 75% of the game.
Disagree
His scheme failed us initially, the improving defense came from the adjustment from the Williams setup to a more “Del Rio/Smith” form.
Though, we knew from day one that Williams would be one and done, though as FSBlue said, we probably expected it to happen after the Jaguars went to Tampa…

One and done was the plan...
maybe if he had a good year in Jax. I’m sure his value has dropped a little. I imagine we could keep him if we wanted, but if it’s heads people want to see then I guess that’s what they’ll get.
This seems irrelevant to me
The Jaguars can switch up their coaching staff all they want, but it’s the personnel on the field that needs to be fixed. Gregg didn’t do a great job in Jacksonville so I’m not jumping to his side, but who’s the magician that should’ve been hired to magically make the defense great.
Well said
I’m neutral about Gregg. It’d probably be best for him to find a team that has better blitzers. But, as always, it’s players not plays, and we need better players.

On the upside
I think Clint Ingram showed that he can blitz from the edge. He caused some havoc in the recent GB game. He’s not super athletic, but he’s still more athletic than most DE’s and he’s about as strong as a small DE.
J.Durant
Never really seen him Blitz……
But I figure that with his speed, he can not be that bad blitzer , can he??
It's not all about speed
Or else Groves would have been awesome all year. You gotta have moves.

Harvey...
I could see Harvey chasing Rogers many times from way up in Sec. 410. Once he gets his angles down, look out!
I agree
In the last few weeks he’s been steadily improving. I’m excited to see what another year and a training camp can do for him.
i dont think
Gregg should go. we are 15th in defense and he is doing that with a sub-par, bottom 20 defense. historically he does better in his second or third year, getting his defense to the top 5 after the defense gets familiar with his schemes.

We might not have a choice
The Jaguars will be spending some money on coaches/GM’s (possibly), getting into a bidding war for Williams might not be an option.

As Chris said
We’ll be spending cash of a new GM and maybe even head coach depending on how the season finishes, we won’t have the cash to try and get into a bidding war. Not to mention, we still really don’t have the kind of personnel to run his system.
