So how do you guys feel about Del Rio?
Hi, Texans fan here. Tough game for you guys last night - but as much as we are rivals on the field, I do respect the Jag fans (unlike the way I feel about the Titans).
I'm curious - what's the overall consensus on how the FANS think about Del Rio? Personally, I really like the guy and I think it would be a HUGE mistake for the team to get rid of him. It kind of reminds me of the Kubiak situation here in Houston... he's had two good seasons with the team, but the disappointment of 2008 has made a lot of our fans start to call for his head. Granted, he's made a lot of mistakes - but I think the vast improvements of the last two years outweigh the disappointment of this season.
So, I kind of think you guys have a similar situation. Last year the Texans were absolutely decimated by injuries, and now you guys are going through a similar stretch... but I keep seeing that a lot of you think the players are quitting on the team, and that's obviously a very, very bad thing that does not bode well for the coaching staff.
Anyway - I just wanted to get an idea of the overall feeling about JDR. I think you should definitely stick with him.... but obviously I'm not nearly as clued-in on the details as you guys are.
Hopefully next year we'll play a couple of meaningful division games. Good luck the rest of the season, guys.

You aren't going to get a unanimous decision from us
This has been a topic of much debate over the last month or two. I personally believe that Jack is the man we need at the helm to get this team back to where they were. It’s not the fact that the Jaguars are being out coached that has led to the current state of the season, it’s the personnel on the field. I don’t know if any coach could’ve done anything with the defensive line of the Jaguars and could’ve done anything with the huge problems in the center of the offensive line.

I completely agree. JDR is our man
At least, to me he is. Even if we fired him, who is out there that is better? Don’t give me Bill Cowher, I don’t wanna hear that Cleft Chin Freak’s name. He dissed Del Rio, and that fired me up weeks ago. Del Rio is a great coach and can only work with the personnel he has (which, in our case this year has been bad. A select few know when it is Sunday.). I really can not wait for this year to be over, because next year will be a completely fresh start and people will realize he is a GREAT coach and worked with what he had. I don’t think you blame Del Rio. He’s made some mistakes here and there, but we’re all human. He is the ULTIMATE players cooach and is even in the middle of the huddle getting his guys pumped. Maybe we should fire him, then re-sign him as our MLB? haha but for real, there is no one else I want more than Del Rio at the helm.

Del Rio is the man
It’s nice to hear from a fan of an opposing team that isn’t like the fans here in my home state of Ohio. Browns fans are cocky but have absolutely no reason to because they suck every single year. Anyway, I completely agree with you guys. Del Rio is getting blamed for all this and none of it is his fault. I don’t see how the Jags can lose basically their entire offensive line and people start saying that it is Del Rio’s fault. Del Rio is a tough guy that is passionate about winning. You can just tell by looking at the guy that he looks completely stressed out, and he is as confused as we are as to why our season is going the way it is. I think people need to realize that it is not only the offensive line that is to blame, but it is also the defense. The defense looks awful this year in my opinion. The Jags couldn’t rush the passer last year, but they could at least stop the run somehwat well. It is rediculus to see how much time the opposing team’s QB’s have to throw the ball compared to Garrard. Garrard is getting the shaft. He has to run for his life virtually every play and I cannot fathom how he has not gotten injured yet. Garrard is no Peyton Mannign but he is still a very efficient guy if the line would just block for him. Another thing that I noticed is that Matt Jones is a good receiver but he falls down as soon as somone touches him. I would be surprised if he has broken more than one tackle this year. It is incredibly sad when the best receiver on your team is a running back. The Jags have a lot of problems, but Del Rio is not one of them.

I think the JDR/Shaq Harris match is counter productive...
I have to say I’m in JDR’s corner. Great Coach, maybe not… but his style I appreciate. I knew he was a players coach, but I did not know that he was as easy on the players as has been made out this year. I always thought he was a little more hard nosed. Bottom line is compared to a lot of other coaches in the NFL and I’d take Del Rio. Now for some reason I’ve started liking J. Fischer over the last few years, but I think it’s because he reminds me of Steve Spurrier, crafty. Like someone said, Who do you replace JDR with?
I heard JDR was knocking heads with Harris, which GM at odds with head coach, can sometimes work, but in this case I don’t think it is. On the other hand, I wouldn’t trust JDR as the GM. I think the GM has to be the “feared guy”.
But what do I know? I wanted Coughlin out of here because he was a hard ass.

If he was a good coach last year
He’s still a good coach, imo.
I’m also a Texans fan, but like HoustonDiehards, I’m neutral on the Jags. I think JDR’s the opposite of Romeo Crennel, a bad coach who had a good year. JDR is a good coach who had a bad year. This happens in every sport. Even world renowned money managers have losing years from time to time. It’s unavoidable. The key is to keep you composure until the good time come back around.
A lot of it comes down to injuries, and there’s only so much you can do about those.

Tough game Monday, guys. Keep your chins up, though. You have a talented team and you’ll be ok, even if it’s not this year.

I used to think he was the guy but
I’m starting to have second thoughts on that. We have a personnel issue here in Jax and JDR does have input to that process. I’m not quite ready to pitch him just yet. You might call him the yoyo coach. One year we make the playoffs and get creamed in first round, next year we go 7-9. Then last year we make playoff’s again and have success. Then we have this year.
He must find a way to sustain successs and I don’t know if he’s capable of that. I’m not saying that he can’t, but I’m not convinced that he can either.

Marty Schottenheimer
In 21 years of coaching had 2 losing seasons. One was 7-9 one was 4-12.
He got fired for never winning a Super Bowl.
It is a non-rewarding job. I have lost a lot of faith in JDR, but think he needs a rebound opportunity.
