Who is this year's league MVP?
With the end of the 08 regular season next week, who do think should be this year's NFL MVP? There are some intriguing candidates to choose from. Let's look at 3 of them.
#1 - Peyton Manning - has single handidly put the Colt's on his back and IS the Colt's offense. There is no doubt that the Colt's were in seemingly decline at the beginning of the season but with Peyton pulling the trigger, they have recovered and are still dangerous. They may be the team that nobody wants to see in the playoffs.
#2 - Chad Pennington - has taken a 1-15 Phins team to 1 victory away from the AFC East Division title and a playoff birth. He isn't flashy, he doesn't make the highlight reels - he's just a winner - plain and simple. He gets the job done and IF the Phins can win next week and capture the division, he certainly merrits consideration.
#3 - Matt Ryan - what can you say about this guy. He's certainly rookie of the year. When you consider what condition the ATL franchise was coming into this season, Ryan leading the team to the playoff's is THE story of the NFL this season. He's had some great help with Mike Turner at RB, but it all starts with Ryan.
There are certainly others, Mike Turner, Adrian Peterson, Kerry Colins, Ben Roethlisberger, or how about Matt Cassle just to name a few.

Maybe Peyton is the MVP
But I can’t vote for him. I know that if the roles were reversed, Colts fans really would never vote for us. Think of it as Colts fans voting for Tom Brady – it would never happen.

True
But I think what Brady did last year made it the obvious choice for MVP…but then again, I voted for Marvin Harrison. Ok thats not true. If MJD and Fred Taylor played the Colts every week, they would be the easiest choices for Co-MVP in the league…they obsolutely kill the Colts defense.

If
they were objective and true NFL fans they would. But you’re right. That’s why Fred Taylor has only been to one Pro Bowl. At any rate, it’s hard for me to vote for Payton also, but I have to if I want to be fair. He has done so much more with less this year. He is simply amazing. And it sucks! hahaha. Go Jaguars! Payton will get old soon enough. I think that is now the only thing that will stop that QB.
Matt Ryan
So a team that has been to the Playoffs for as long as I care to remember, makes the playoffs, and it’s because the guy who’s been on the team the entire time is the most valuable player in the leageu? Matt Ryan comes in as a rookie and turns a franchise around, as well as Pennington in Miami. I’d rather vote on someone who has at least SOME visible correlation. Nothing has changed in Indy, they’re still just as good as they were, just going about it a little different way. When you go from bottom of the league, to playoffs in one year, then you can see something BIG has happened.
Well...
There is visible correlation. Before Manning showed up his rookie year the Colts had 2 consecutive 3 win seasons. Then in Manning’s second yearthey had a 3 LOSS season. I think that’s strong evidence if you ask me. Just because Manning isn’t new doesn’t mean isn’t the most valuable.
I agree about Matt Ryan…that situation was horrendous to come into..and he had to overcome some descrimination of his own winning the city of Atlanta back. I expected a 4-12 record at best. I think this puts a stamp on what a quarterback should be-Passer first, throw it away second and run as last resort. There aren’t many SB Champs that have done otherwise.
All Good Options
All three are great options to be MVP. Chad Pennington I think went in with a chip on his shoulder to show he shouldn’t be just clearing space to make room for Brett Favre. Peyton Manning literally put the Colts on his shoulders and carried the team, as he had no running game and while the defense played well at times, they melted down at other times. Matt Ryan went into one of the worst possible situations and came out on top by leading his team to the playoffs. However, my vote would be Matt Ryan.
