Ask Baltimore Beatdown: Questions for the Ravens Blogger

Hey Big Cat Country! It's Rexx, lead blogger for the Baltimore Ravens over at www.BaltimoreBeatdown.com. I usually put this post up on our next opponent's site each Wednesday for serious fans to ask questions about the upcoming game and see the response from the Ravens perspective. This obviously is a much more important game for Baltimore than it is for Jacksonville. That said, there's nothing the Jags would love to do more than spoil our party just like we did to the Cowboys last week.

So post your questions here and I'll be back throughout the rest of the week to respond. At the same time, feel free to venture over to our site to post your comments and opinions. As I tell my guys, keep it clean, no personal attacks and let the trash fly. We have a relatively small group of loyal fans who know their football and can really bring it. So be prepared to back up your claims with serious stuff.

Let's get it on! Thanks and Happy Holidays to all at Big Cat Country!

Rexx may be busy, but I have some free time before heading out so...

If NE loses to Buffalo, the Ravens clinch the #6 WC spot (which is all we can get anyways). Otherwise, we have to win against Jacksonville.

I’m guessing the Ravens will play hard regardless, but rest guys like Derrick Mason and Samari Rolle if they can get away with it. Those guys have given up their bodies for the team this year and we want them as healthy as possible for the playoffs.

Would be nice...

if Buffalo can help us out by upsetting the Pats in their 1pm game so we can rest some hurting guys. Otherwise, it’s just win-and-in for us, which is fine by me as I’d rather have our destiny in our own hands.

How do you think Flacco is doing this year?

Obviously Matt Ryan is getting most of the headlines this year considering what Atlanta has been through, but what is your opinion right now of Flacco?

Flacco has been impressive

He’s come in with much less talent at the skill positions then Matt Ryan, and while he hasn’t put up the numbers, he’s kept us in games and actually won a game pretty much by himself at Cleveland. The really impressive thing is he did this all while not really getting the training camp help that Matt Ryan did. We are really excited.

He’s had to face a murderers row of defenses this year, which has kept his numbers down. Said murderers row includes Pittsburgh twice, Tennesee, Indy, Washington, Dallas, Philly and the Giants. That’s a tall order for any offense, but especially for a rookie. Look for him to impress next season with more chemistry with his receivers, and opposing defenses that will be considerably less formidable.

Strengths : Poise in the pocket, big arm, deceptive mobility.

Weaknesses : Fumbles way too much, still needs to work on his accuracy.

Whacko for Flacco!

This kids has been unreal. Remember that Atlanta’s Matt Ryan was drafted to be the starter from Day One. Flacco was drafted to be the QB of the future, not the present. In fact, he was designated as the #3 QB beofre Training camp, behind Kyle Boller and Troy Smith. Both were either hurt or ill, so he was thrust into the starting gig w/o much foresight late in the preseason and has done remarkable considering those circumstances. I know the Falcons wouldn’t trade us Ryan for Flacco, but no Baltimore fans would do that deal either.

He was a tall but not so stocky LB

and was okay, even good, but certainly no Ray Lewis. He was a good motivator as our LB coach, having been able to relate to those he was coaching as a young assistant coach with playing experience. However, the greatest laugh I’ve had in a long time was when he put the tree stump and axe in your locker room and your punter (?) gashed himself in the leg! WTF?

He was the personal coach

Of a linebacking group that probably ranks top five all time; so yeah, fond memories.

My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all of you Jaguar and Raven fans. Of course I want the Jaguars to win, but if for some off the wall strange reason they don’t, I’ll be rooting for your Ravens in the playoffs. They have a great team, can run the ball well, and have a smart QB. It’s the type of football style the Jaguars used to have and wish to obtain once again. Plus, I don’t like the Patriots, so there’s that. Anyway, good luck to the Ravens and Jaguars and I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas!

Thanks for the good wishes

We Ravens fans always had great games with the Jags when they were in our division. Your main man Brunell used to kill us, scramble us dizzy and then find your TE, Kyle ???, who would always find an opening or Jimmy Smith who would always burn Chris McAlister (gee, who didn’t). Those were brutal wars back then.

Kyle Brady

He was with the Pats last year, but he’s retired now.
