Free Agent Fishing: Torry Holt
Would we be interested in TORRY HOLT? He is pushing 30 something, but might still have something left in him. *A semi productive Holt would be an upgrade from our guys* He does everything you want from a reciever (not sure about his blocking) He declined comment on whether he would be in a Rams uniform next season. What would it take to get him if we were interested? Im still bitter about Jerry, but hes nowhere near the reciever Torry is.

I was thinking about the Dolphins tackle Vernon Carey
He’ll be a free agent also, and although he’s played RT this season, he played LT in 2007 prior to Jake Long’s arrival and only allowed 3 sacks all season. He’s a great run blocker too.

Sounds more than capable
I just wonder why their letting him go. Were letting Khalif go……In Carey’s defense Barnes has had 3 sack games.

It'd be nice to make a run at Albert Haynesworth
Makes us better, and makes the Titans worse. But it’ll probably take much more money than I see us willing to spend.

The 4 (H)orseman
Heyward, Henderson, Haynesworth, and Harvey lol. I’ll probably have a wet one tonight thinking about it. I’d first wanna get his MCL evaled.

My concern on Haynesworth
It doesn’t appear playing football is enough incentive. He played his butt off this year to stay off franchise tag by making Pro Bowl. Then he thinks he can score the big big big contract (and I think he will). What happens when he gets it? Wil he show up for games?

All depends on what we're expecting
It’s absurd to think we’ll be getting the Torry Holt of the “Greatest Show on Turf” era.

I wouldn't be so happy about signing him
It sounds to me like a good way to fall into the Hugh Douglas trap again

No Way
Don’t waste $ again on a “past his prime” receiver! Why don’t we start developing Mike Walker. You could have him and Matt Jones on the outside with Northcutt in the slot….

I actually like that combo
Do you think it presents any deep threat?

"Start developing Mike Walker" ? ? ? ?
Why doesn’t Mike Walker man-up and quit getting his ass hurt so much, then maybe he’d develop. This is year two… we may have another Brian Smith on our hands, only at WR this time.
Each Player’s development is as much the individual player’s responsibility as it is the coaching staff’s. Mike bears the brunt of the responsibility for his inability to stay on the field.

Agreed
Next year is a make or break year for Walker. He has the potential, but if his knee can’t hold up, it can’t hold up.

To quote a smart man
If his knee can’t hold up, it can’t hold up.
I think that is the bottom line. There is nothing else to say about Mike Walker than that. I just don’t know where he is physically. I don’t think next year is the make or break, I think it is next pre-season.

I think people are forgetting a few things
First we really have to treat this year as his rookie year. Second he had a couple good games this year including an eye opening performance against the Steelers. Third his last knee injury was his “healthy” knee so I don’t think that’s so much of a worry, not to mention there wasn’t much ligament damage it was mostly an infection that kept him sidelined. Fourth we are going to be losing a lot of other receivers we need to have some continuity. Fifth he’s never had a chance to build a connection with Garrard. 6th he’s the only receiver that really offers a possible deep passing threat for the future. He’s also playing well on special teams. We also have to give the guy a break considering his recent losses (His father and best friend.). Not to mention it usually takes a WR 3 years to have a break out season, when he’s HEALTHY. And with our team it seems they need 4 years. lol

About Torry....
I live in St. Louis and I watch a lot of the Rams games because I never get to see my beloved Jags. Holt can not get separation as well as he used to after his knee troubles. Also, he has be open about his desires to get out of St. Louis and people in St. Louis have questioned his motivation, which could be a factor in his play this year but im not sure. But everyone is talking about Walker’s knee problems, Torry has them too and he costs much more than Walker. I would think twice before wanting Torry, he’s on the down slide and he wont give you any more than Matt Jones. I think Jones can be a 1,000 yard reciever next year. He played well this year, and I have expected him to turn it around for a couple years now. Just go with the guy, hes got great hands.
Trade Ankiel instead of Luddy!!! Why go buy an impact bat when we got one?

about Holt’s lack of separation.

Torry Holt?
Did anyone learn anything from the Jerry Porter experiment?
by Bestjagfan on Dec 31, 2008 6:15 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
The difference is
Torry Holt has played well as a #1 receiver through his career. Jerry Porter never has. I don’t believe Holt should be brought in either, but because he’s getting old and we have better things to spend money on.

No way!
We don’t need anymore has been recievers our team, and lest we forget Porter, a wasted spot on the roster, not to mention loads of money. Carey is the only free agent we should be looking at, for WR look to the draft.
