Jacksonville Jaguars sign Jerry Porter (Updated)

NFL Network's Adam Schefter is reporting that Wide Receiver Jerry Porter is now a Jacksonville Jaguar after signing a 6 year 30 million dollar contract with 10 million in guaranteed money.

And there you go, the Front Office made a move at receiver, finally.  To be honest, Porter wasn't on my radar as a guy we'd go after, but it looks like the Jaguars were trying to buy a talented player that because of his recent history would be a little cheaper than the top tier guys.

Jack Del Rio: On Jerry Porter:

"We’re excited to have added Troy Williamson in a trade and Jerry Porter in the start of free agency here," said Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio about today’s transactions. "I’m very excited about adding Jerry. I think he’s an outstanding football player. There were a couple guys that we thought we would take an opportunity at in free agency and he was at the top of the list for us. I really think it was a great fit for us. He’s an explosive player. He’s had some big years. We think his best football is still ahead of him and we’re very excited to have him."

Jerry will be wearing number 84 for the Jaguars.

Of course, now I need to go to a ton of research and figure out what sort of player Jerry is and what he'll bring to Jacksonville.

Porter, clearly, is our number one receiver.  Reggie Williams number two.  Northcutt goes in the slot. Broussard/Williamson as the 4th guy/speedy threat.  Mike Walker as a backup/jar on shelf.

Matt Jones looks like the odd man out.

yes
i like this move.  not a ton of guaranteed money, which is good.  but the dude can play.  check out a few years ago when he had a decent QB throwing to him.  he is a deep threat, and is a tough guy.  The only thing i don't like is that he's getting near 30.  of course, if he can be effective for 3 or 4 years, then mike walker can take over, hopefully.

Offensive Line
I like the fact that we have a developing receiving corp, but don't forget to get David solid protection.  Sign Mo Williams, Draft an OT in the first round, shore up the line or it will be a problem soon.

DRAFT
O-Line needs a serious upgrade. I've heard C. Naeole's knee is of major concern to the Jags, I'm not a proponent of the Mo Williams signing, I just don't think we can expect him to get THAT much better, he's about as good as he's gonna get... which is slightly above average. If the Jags really wanted him that much, they could have just applied the Transitional Tag (A La Pittsburg and M Smith) This would've given the Jags a chance to match any longterm offers, while still keeping Mo's salary reasonable. It's apparent the team is gonna let him get overpaid elsewhere. THis Draft is deep at O-line and D-line... look for us to find our trench warriors there. We've been preety good at finding decent linemen even in the later rounds of the draft... I expect us to do our draft thing, especially since this will be the first draft where Jack and Gene are gonna be the final say... Not Shack.

I've heard the same thing
About Naeole.  The team is worried about him.
