New Jags Fan - What is up with Matt Jones
I just moved here and am trying to catch up with the Jags. What happened with Matt Jones. I thought he was playing well and had a chance to be a decent WR. Everything I am hearing around town is he will be cut this season right before the season starts? He is making the switch from college QB to WR. That is not an easy switch, one that many have failed at. I thought it was strange when they took him in the draft, and now it looks like a mistake?
What happened? Why did he fall out of favor with the Coachs?

Matt Jones
I’m going to break down the entire Matt Jones situation in a piece early next week, but here’s a quick run-down.
The wide receivers are in a tight fight. The Jaguars will probably only carry 5 receivers on the active roster this season with three positions nearly completely locked down. If Porter, Reggie Williams and Dennis Northcutt are X, Y, and Slot receivers accordingly, there are only two spots left. I can tell you with 95% confidence that one of those spots will be Troy Williamson or John Broussard, as they are the speedy deep change of pace receiver. That leaves Mike Walker, Matt Jones, D’Juan Woods, Jeron Harvey, Craponso Thorpe, and Clyde Edwards competing for the last spot.
Mike Walker, if healthy, will be on the roster. If his knee holds up, Matt Jones is out of a job, unless injury or other incident changes things.
It’s less a matter of “being in the doghouse” and more a numbers game at this point. Matt Jones has had every chance in the world to be the man in Jacksonville and he’s done nothing but disappoint. He’s inconsistent, hates to block, hates contact, and fails to work as hard on monday through Saturday as everyone else.
Everything is on the line for him this year, as it’s a bunch of guys going after one spot.
Welcome to the site! I hope you stick around!

Thanks Chris
I see like I said I am in the Army have been moving around for the last 21 years and have decided to settle here (St. Augustine). I will be honest I can’t give up the Cowboys I have rooted for them since 1971 but I will root for the Jags. I called the ticket office today to buy season tickets but they want me to pay for my 2 year old son as well so I think I am going to go the USO route this year and wait till next to buy season tickets, we will see. The difference is $440 per season ticket so for 3 it would be $1320 for 10 games but I can get them for $10 each at the USO so it would be $300 for 3 tickets to 10 games. A big difference and one I think I am going to go with. I would rather have season tickets but the $1000 is a big difference! Who knows as the season gets closer I may cave in. I just love the NFL!
