Quinn Gray is a Colt

Quinn Gray is now one of 5 QB's on Indy's roster vying for a spot. The other's are Peyton, Josh Betts, Jim Sorgi, and rookie Adam Tafralis.

Peyton's injury virtually guarentees that Indy will carry 3 QB's. Quinn may just end up being a camp arm, but he could just as easily be on the final roster. The competition behind Peyton is pedestrian to say the least, so Gray's biggest obstacle will be learning the system. Best of luck Quinn!

If nothing else he’ll probably be there just to be picked to death about the Jaguars playbook. Shame both the front office and Gray’s agent so overvalued their free agent opportunity. Would have had a nice stint as the backup here.

He might be camp fodder right not cause we need another arm and will likely dump one of the other QBs we have not named Sorgi.
As a Colts fan I do think he might be better than Sorgi. I hate to pick on Sorgi because we hardly see him with the starters but he is so frail and scares me at times.

Would not mind seeing some decent depth behind Manning. A nice backup QB competition would be nice.

Would still like to see someone else report this but PFT, who are hard to trust.

Surprised

There are Dolphins fans down here that occasionally watch Jags games, that are shocked that Miami didn’t at least try out Gray. When it was Byron, David, and Quinn, my dad (a long time Fins fan) would joke that it wasn’t fair that the Jag’s had 3 QB’s that were better than the Fins starter. Quinn may not be a star QB, but he’s better than alot of the troubled QB’s around the league.

something bothers me too!

I’m with Ewdtrey. Gray doesen’t seem to fit in any way on this Colts team. So why would they bring him in? Hmmmmmmmmm…

by jagsfanbrunell on Jul 24, 2008 9:44 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

They also picked up...

The Pillsbary Throw Boy, Jared Lorenzen.

Colts are accumulating a ton of quarterbacks because they lack faith in Jim Sorgi and have to share the camp load without Manning.

Jaguars and Colts see each other too frequently to have many secrets in the playbook.

hey now.....

I like Jared Lorenzen. I saw him play Florida. The kid had heart and not that many QBs could shrug off Boss Bailey on a full run. Plus he is a really fast runner for a heavy guy. By the way, if I am not mistaken he was only 8 completions away from breaking Peytons record in the SEC, and on a crappy team at that, no offense.

Colts released Betts from the roster.

And added two as you know.

In order to find more ways to dominate the Jaguars. (just kidding)

Colts

I do think I got used to Colts fan on this website. It’s good to have the oppinion of a different team. (Even if it is a little annoying).

If you dig through the archives,

You’ll find that my first “blogging” was as the token Jaguars fan at Stampede Blue. I’m pretty sure they pushed for me to get a Jaguars site just to get rid of me, haha.

over and over

It’s not that I don’t like Colts fans. I like any true football fan. It’s just the broken record syndrome of bashing that gets old. I love when they have something productive to add to a discussion. That’s why we are on here in the first place.

Like if a Colts fan were to say, “Man that Groves is scary fast. I hope Peyton eats his Wheaties” , we might concede that Peyton is pretty awesome sometimes. It has never been in question the talent level of their team. But to post trash talk without making sense and not even on the subject gets old. I hope that they bring positivity to the site for all true football fans to enjoy.

Yup, you nailed it.

I love an objective fan. Tell me you’re worried about Groves and I’ll say something that worries me about the Colts. Give me a fact and I’ll try to come up with one too, it’s good, it’s constructive, and it makes us both smarter fans.

Don’t just casually write us off though, hubris is ungood.

Nobody is writing you guys off. I see plenty of hubris from jags fans though as well.

It’s that time of year and common for almost every teams fans.

I'd rather have 100 Colts fans....

Than one Pats fan.

I’d rather buy a beer for Michael Silver, than give a dime to a Pats fan. I cheered for the Colts every time they faced the Patriots. Lesser of two evils, that is.

I was really hoping you guys would beat the Pats in the playoffs. And I wish the weather had been bad to have hurt their passing game.

Instead you let Brady have the perfect game. Ugh…...

Thank You Giants!!! I cannot imagine if the Pats had gone 19-0. Sickening.

We can be objective

But to every Yin (objective) there is a Yang (homer). Some souls are weaker than others and let the homer side take over frequently. I try to be as objective as possible but I let my Homer get the best of me sometimes. lol

Anyway that Groves kid kind of does scare me a bit. Those videos you posted up show some great skill and speed. I worry because, if im not mistaken, he will be lined up as the LE. Ryan Diem is a big tackle but I dont trust him against speed. I would be much more comfortable if he lined up on Ugoh’s side since Ugoh is more athletic and better with his feet to defeat speed.

by metal_militia on Jul 25, 2008 1:57 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I would be more comfortable with him against Diem if he is that speedy because at least Peyton can see him coming.

But, if Groves turns out to be better this year than Harvey wouldn’t they want him going against the QBs blind side?

The Colts are worried

Quinn Grey is being used by a smart organization. He may make a few bucks but in the same way Judas did. There is no real interest in Quinn Grey in Indy but it says a lot about their sudden paranoia.

by Tkopa on Jul 24, 2008 10:11 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Worried.....

What they are worried about is not having enough QBs in camp. So, basically with the release of Betts they added 1 extra QB. Of course the complicated secrets we need to get from the Jags and Texans organizations will help. (hint: it’s we are going to run the ball often ;)

I doubt anyone will unseat noodle arm Sorgi though, but I would not be against it even though I like the guy he looks like anyone can break him in half at times and his pocket presense is kinda sad.. But, he knows the system and holds the clipboard like a pro! And nobody carries Peyton’s suitcase better.

by HelloKitty on Jul 24, 2008 10:49 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Really?

I was under the impression that Sorgi is very much challenged right now with all the signings.

What would be interesting, and I don’t mean this as a Jaguars fan, but as an observer of football, would be to see what the Colts did if Manning was out for a significant amount of time. Reggie Wayne and Joseph Addai might be good enough to win a few games on their own, even with a weak quarterback. It’d be rough on Colts fans, but if I take my partisan hat off, it’d be very interesting.

He might be very challenged, Polian did mention today they have been wanting to strengthen the backup QB position. I would prefer to draft someone though eventually to develop over the years, I hope they do next year. Someone good and someone who can start and win games if need be. Someone who maybe someday could take over for Manning. (is it too much to ask for a Steve Young like backup? lol)

However, if Sorgi loses his job…..I will believe it when I see it. They just seem to really like him for some reason. But, I don’t think his job is 100% safe here.

I am intrigued by Lorenzen though very much.

An extensive Peyton Manning Injury

Spells D-O-O-M for the Colts and you know it Chris.

Unless We find a decent backup who has had starting time in this league and is smart (to pick up the system)I dont see just any backup stepping in and “manage” the game to win.

by metal_militia on Jul 25, 2008 1:47 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Colts are always doomed. )-:

I am a little bummed though that Betts was released. I liked him a lot.

by HelloKitty on Jul 25, 2008 2:20 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

don't write off Quinn

The fact of the matter is our offensive line is great at run blocking and ‘ehh’ at pass blocking so Quinn was thinking on the run. In Indi your line pass blocks much better, so with that kind of time he will not be throwing all of the overthrows he had with us. And still he won 2 of 3 last year. (by the way, HelloKitty, sorry if I have come off as a jerk in the past sometimes, I’m just defensive about my Jaguars)

Doomed Colts

The only thing thats positive about Mannings injury is that he didn’t move in the first place.. You already had one of the top offensive lines in the league. He doesn’t really need to move, and he was never a scrambler. If the injury gets worse, or he rehurts it in the season, I’d be worried if I were a Colts fan.

by kujo24 on Jul 25, 2008 8:42 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Worried

You should be worried about Peyton as much as we are about Porter…. Concerned and a little worried, but not predicting his career is over. Injuries happen, and these two aren’t some of the worst.

by kujo24 on Jul 25, 2008 8:44 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Its more like an extent

An injury no matter how minor or severe to your best player is always a concern, but there is an extent to how worried we are. This is injury is nothing major and does not have lingering effects when it fully recovered. I would say its a hint of worry, nothing to an extreme where our season is in jeopardy or Peyton Manning for that matter. Again its a concern because it is the franchise that got injured, but I feel the injury is blown out of proportion.

by metal_militia on Jul 25, 2008 10:25 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Not really worried much about Manning but its weird he is not around right now. It’s mostly the infection here he has to get over from what I hear. When the doctors say it’s gone he is good to go and start working his way back.(when that happens though nobody knows) It’s not a typical injury so to speak in terms of tearing a muscle or breaking a bone. He is on antibiotics right now and has his leg elevated.

Right now I am thrilled though that Marvin is back running around with his team.
http://www.colts.com/images/news_photos/88_harrison/2008_0725_camp_060_hall.jpg

And why worry? It’s not something I can control. I have trust he is being taken care of the best he can right now and he will be back soon enough.
