Quentin Groves: On Derrick Harvey

"He said they're getting close, and he really wants to be out here with us," Groves said. "I asked him if he was in his playbook, and he said that he was putting chairs up and walking through the chairs. He's doing pretty well right now. We're looking forward to getting him out here, and we're looking for big things out of him."

That sounds nice, but.....

Jack Del Rio said in post practice interviews this morning that the Jaguars were trying to be reasonable with their contract offers. He went on to clarify that the team had basically offered Harvey a 10% bump over what the 8th pick got in 2007. He said that the two sides weren’t even remotely close in this negotiation as Harvey’s agents (Condon/Kremer) are looking for a 75% bump from the pick last year.

That’s not a typo.

75%.

The 8th pick in the draft last year got a contract roughly around $30 million in total with a $15.7 million signing bonus.

Do the math. That would mean that Harvey is looking for a contract northward of $53 million with around $27 million in guarantees.

That’s more than the Jets gave Gholston, and that was a ridiculous contract that completely blew up the slotting system.

75%

75%!!!!

That’s insane.

I’m stunned. Does Condon/Kremer smell blood in the water with the Jaguars trading up to get Harvey? I don’t understand this.

Yeah I saw the same interview. That is utterly insane and hopefully it will be used as fuel for the fire for a rookie salary cap. He is wanting the most money and wasn’t even the first, second, or THIRD defensive lineman taken in the draft.
