I'm going to try to do some play by play blogging for tonight's preseason game.  I don't know if i'll like it, i don't know if you'll like it, but i'm gonna try it here for fun...  if this bothers you or if you don't agree with my comments, feel free to just not read it. 

Since i can't edit comments made to posts, i'll just keep updating this post again and again with the play by play and my eyes.  If you can't watch the game tonight, maybe this will be of some use to you.

John and Al are here talking about the Jags.  Saying that in the AFC the big 3 are Indy, NE, and SD.  Saying Jaguars are right behind those 3 teams along with Pittsburgh.  Great team because they can run the ball and stop the run.  But they don't think we're elite yet because we haven't beaten the elite (Colts). 

1st Quarter

So, they let troy try another kick return.  Kick went out of endzone, though, so no chance to impress on this play.

It really does look like Jones would go somewhere if he didn't have to keep meeting 2 or 3 defenders and the line.  He's a big dude.

bad throw.  too low on a quick out.  reggie was fine, he turned around when David was 3 steps back, the ball just didn't make it to him.

terrible throw, *almost* a nice catch.  Put that ball into double coverage and threw it short.  Not a safe throw.  Looking at the tivo, it's clear that it was pressure from the rush.  Washington's Chris wilson beat Khalif barnes bad and hit garrard during the throw.  Chalk that one up to OLine.

Not a bad throw, hit the hands of the receiver, but Mathis hit him so hard that it popped up and out from the receiver.  Peterson, made an amazingly aware play, turning around, finding the ball wobbling in the air, and grabbing it.  Great pick!

This guy's nasty. hitting people, jumping over people.  I fear the safety who goes one-on-sone.

Tried to swing it outside and tripped up.  Listen, i said he was good, but hes no fred taylor. keep it in the middle, Greg :)

i'll tell you now i'm not a matt jones fan.  but he played that right, came back to the ball, held on, defense was riding him.  John madden says jonese could be our go-to-receiver, which is more proof that he should stick to posing for game covers.

Greg caught the ball and hung on as he got hammered, though.

nice touch on that pass.  scans a few receivers, sees reggie streaking across the m iddle, does a nice touch pass that reggies scoops up.

holy crap the game moves faster when you're trying to write everything down.  thank goodness for a commercial.

their running back saw the hole, but so did B-Williams.  nice hit.

 2-8 WAS30 (6:59) M.Mason left end to WAS 35 for 5 yards (C.Ingram).
OLine made a decent hole for him.  Clint followed the play sideways and made the stop.

3-3 WAS35 (6:18) J.Campbell pass incomplete short middle to C.Cooley (...
found the soft spot in the zone... or did he?  nope, nelson knocked it loose in the tackle.  if the pass was earlier, it woudl've been a strike.  nelson may have been playing that just a hair too deep.  Great play though to knock it out; if reggie's coverage was shakey, he got away with it.

Now WAS is challenging; may be a fumble  that they recovered for a first down.  Maybe reggie didn't get away with it after all.

Nope, incomplete pass.  Good for reggie. 

Punt
Rashod Moulton tried a return.  Fumbled it out of bounds when he got hit.  Let's stick to having 'Spoon be our CB/punt returner, please.

Not a real long throw, but it floated a bit. Madden says it was great protection, i dunno, still looked a little shakey to me.  I gotta be honest, that was a ncie catch by jones and good concentration to get the feet in. He looks good.

now that was a beautiful throw.  And it's a slant, David's favorite.  Jones caught it, and did so by watching the ball into his hands before he started thinking about where to run.  Another nice catch.  he's made his point, he won't be the guy cut for Harvey.

aired it out again.  that throw was iffy.  Jones didn't have a step on the corner, and the safety had plenty of time to get over to the ball.  thrown into double coverage again.  Not Jones' fault.  You might not realize it, but i'm actually a garrard fan. He's just making some... interesting.. decisions.  The safety was a single deep and was watching david's eyes.  he started running towards jones before the ball was thrown.

*update* Vic blames Jones for not going up for the ball.  It's true Jones didn't jump for it.  He clearly wasn't aware of the safety coming over because he was watching the ball intently and trying to jockey for position with the corner.  i dunno; you can post in comments what you think, Jones could've jumped for it but it was a shady ball from the beginning.

i've gotta start a new post and go bottom-up instead of top down for the 2nd quarter; i'm getting killed with all this scrolling.
