Jaguars at 53 Man Limit
The six veterans cut are QB Todd Bouman, RB Ciatrick Fason, LB Tony Gilbert, DT Jesse Mahelona, DE Kenny Pettway and DE Bo Schobel.
The rookies/first-year players include fifth-round draft pick DB Trae Williams and 12 others: TE Chris Brown, DE Mkristo Bruce, OT Andrew Carnahan, TE Charles Davis, CB Isaiah Gardner, CB Michael Grant, WR Ryan Hoag, G/OT Pete McMahon, C/G Drew Miller, CB Rashod Moulton, LB Lamar Myles and WR D’Juan Woods.
Put on the PUP list were DB Chad Nkang and DL Jeremy Mincey.
DT Jonathan Lewis was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury that he suffered in Thursday’s preseason game against the Redskins.
We kept six WRs which meant we had to go with two QBs for the season and that's always a little worrisome with such a long season nowadays. I really like Todd Bouman and would be a little shocked if he didn't sign as a back up somewhere because it is clear he's still got it.
The team's personal roadrunner (Witherspoon) is still on the squad despite two fumbles during the preseason. The front office must've figured that his speed just wouldn't clear waivers. He could end up being special... As a USF alumni I was a little sad to see Trae Williams go, but he didn't show much so he was shown the door.
Troy Williamson obviously earned a spot during the last preseason game. Ironic that the reason he's still on the team is that perfect pass thrown by Todd Bouman for a TD, and the reason Todd isn't on the team is because Troy is our 6th reciever. Go figure...

Practice Squad
What qualifies or disqualifies a player for the practice squad? I hear certain players are likely to be signed there, if they are not picked up by another team. But others cannot be, like Ryan Hoag. Why is that?
Eligibilty
They cannot have served two previous seasons on the Practice squad
Players who have not had a full season in the NFL are eligible. After one full season, they are no longer eligible. Unless, during that season, they were only on the active list for less than 9 games.
Really thought D’Juan Woods would get the 6th spot over Williamson. He was far more consistent than Williamson. Who knows, perhaps this is the break he needed. As for Bouman, is it worth it to have a #3 QB?

Shows what pre-season mean...
You just had to listen to Del Rio’s comments following that last game to know Williamson was going to make the team. It’s his raw speed. Guys who can catch the ball are great but Woods did it mostly against backups and he just doesn’t have Williamson’s speed.
The interesting decision will come after the 6th game when the 2 guys on the PUP are eligible to come back and Porter should be playing again. Do we continue to keep 6 WR’s ? I guess we’ll also know the outcome of Matt Jones hearing by week 6 as well.
Perhaps its just my mentality. Would rather have a solid route runner/catcher than a guy who can run in the Olympics but a 50/50 shot at catching it.

Except for the fact that the team already has a bunch of route-runners who can catch. And without the ability to stretch the field, it’s a lot more difficult to run and to throw those underneath passes as well. I really think they’re just using the time Porter is still out to extend his tryout now that he’s healthy.
No
We only have 4 DE’s and the 2 of them have had injury issues in the past. We can trim down some where else. Maybe RB(CW). Or maybe Fudge who I like, but we are kinda heavy at S. I hate to cut anyone on the team, but history has shown that both of these players probably wont see any playing time anyhow.
good point... although Chad is just a safety in name... his only position is special teams ace.

Well so much for that idea
The Giants “stole” Jerome McDougle. They have more money and the need. I’m still little upset. I guess we’ll see how good he really is next weekend.
Chris, i’ve noticed that you have been doing less and less posting on the site in the last few months. Have you lost interest in BCC? – would be strange seeing as it has boomed recently in popularity.
I miss reading your insightful posts.
Nope. not at all
I’ve just moved and started a new job, so it’s been a bit of a transition. With preseason ending, it’s time for me to step back in to the full-time BCC Gig.
Just pretend it’s preseason and the Starting Quarterback is getting some rest before a long season.
Not to say that the Collin and FSBlue are backups, not by any stretch of the imagination.

What's the fuss about McDougle?
He’s had 3 sacks in 33 games, i might be able to do that!
