Just a Possibility...
With Rivers signing for as much as he did, the Jaguars are going to have to fork over the dough. ($18 million up front.) Or do they? Just a thought , .... what if we contacted Jerry Jones, Mr. Moneybags in Dallas, and offered him a trade. He gets Derrick Harvey, who he can pay whatever he wants, and Mike Peterson, who's on the last year of his contract and wants more money. We get DeMarcus Ware, who is seasoned and still young enough to kill QBs for a long time for us.
He plays OLB in a 3 x 4, we could make him a DE in a 4 x 3. Our depth at linebacker is huge and we didn't skip a beat with Mike out last year. Plus without paying Harvey or Mike the extra 'payolla', we would have enough to give MJD a well deserved extension and everybody is happy.
What do y'all think?

I think that is actually happening
To think the Jaguars don’t privately admit a mistake with Derrick Harvey and are quietly working the phones to get out of it, is to not give them enough credit.
Derrick Harvey should play football and we shouldn’t stop him. I just think he burned his opportunity here in Jacksonville. Personally I think they are after an offensive tackle.
But I love your idea. Any team weak in defense with crazy money to spend can spend it with Mr. Kremer. He represents both of them. I do hate to see Mike go, however. Derrick Harvey and Mike Peterson would be a huge lift to any defense. Even the Patriots.

He hasn't burned anything...
He’ll sign eventually and as long as he plays well, all will be forgiven. First round hold outs happen all the time, it’s just been a while since it’s involved a Jaguar.

How bout Harvey for a 2009 1st round pick
I thought about that earlier this week. Even if we could just trade Harvey for say, a 1st round pick next year, it would be worth it. I believe that Harvey’s hold out, and Groves living up to expectations, as well as Spicer’s solid return has really lowered Harvey’s value to this team. I’m all for the Jags being the first and starting a new trend in not being held hostage by where picks fall in the lineup of contracts.
Unfortunately, I think it would also put a bad mark on the franchise out there for rookies coming to the Jags, unless other teams start following suite. I also think it doesn’t matter much about “making statements,” because rookie salaries are going to change in some way with the new CBA in the next few years.
I can’t really blame Harvey for wanting what everyone else is getting, and the Jags do share some blame for jumping so far up and making themselves seem desperate. But, that’s what you get with a small market team, some gutsy, unconventional methods.

Agreed
I’m all for management sticking to their guns, and I “hate” a rookie dictating status quo, but this Harvey hold-out is going to hurt the organization. As JAX battles the negative small market stigma, this just confirms the case. I’m sure there will be a lot of players who want to come to a small market to play, but with the draft taking on this ‘public high dollar auction’ and the media whispering in the ear of these atheletes, the top performers and their agents will not embrace JAX. Personally, I’m all for it. Let’s face it, other than Fred, the top picks haven’t been too sweet. But still, you don’t want to be “that team”.
Let’s hope management can put a good spin on this.

I think your on to something. A proven veteran, and way ahead of where D. Harvey would be by the end of the season. We have to make sure we keep MJD happy. He deserves a nice contract extension, because he will eventually be the M.M. (main man).

thanks.....
Hopefully, Mr. Weaver visits BCC too and likes the idea.

no chance
there’s no chance of the cowboys trading ware a proven pro bowler for an aging lb and unproven rookie…would be nice if it did though! hopefully harvey gets signed and shows us what he’s got.

The Jaguars have a little more of a ‘team’-oriented style, than just pure business. No, if they let Peterson go, it will be because they choose not to resign him during FA. Peterson wants to stay and he is about to play his heart out for this team to earn a new contract for the last years of his football. I think he’ll earn it, but he may get hurt earlier in the season if he plays like he’s played in the past.
Harvey ties Leftwich on number of days held out today. I agree wholeheartedly with Jax, you can’t pay an unproven rookie as much as the veteran quarterback/ highest paid player on your team. But my brain tells me that the 1.5 million difference between 16.5 and 18 is not what’s holding this deal back. Its all the things he has to do to actually be paid (they mentioned 80% play time as one somewhere). Jax should look into those and cut him more of a deal- if its coming down to the 1.5 mil. difference in guaranteed money, this is the most ridiculous holdout and the agent should be thrown off a bridge.
