Mel Tucker Next DC?
via-NFP
The National Football Post has just been informed that the Jacksonville Jaguars are very close to naming Mel Tucker as their new defensive coordinator. Tucker would be taking the spot that was formerly held by Gregg Williams, who left last week to become the defensive coordinator of the New Orleans Saints.
Tucker spent the previous four seasons with the Cleveland Browns. He was promoted to defensive coordinator in January of 2008.
I'm not to sure what the Jags see in Tucker but it must be good if it only took one interview. He was also the only reported interview for the DC position.

I knew it... With Donnie gone the door was wide open for Tucker, who specializes in DB's.
IF our DB’s don’t improve vastly under Tucker, then his joining the squad will be for naught. He’ll likely want to bring in one of his own guys to coach the DB’s as well. I’ll reserve Judgement on the Tucker decision for now, but I think just about anyone would be an improvement over Gregg Williams. His style just didn’t mesh with our personnel.
Talking about styles
Tucker ran a 3-4 in the Browns………………..
So le's go to a 3-4
This talk over it is impossible is ridiculous. It isn’t that hard. Just move to it and draft to it.

I dont think its that easy....
I really dont think its the moment to do that……
I’m not sure JDR can stand another loosing season as our HC, and looking at our personell i dont think that building the team in just one offseason can produce a solid D………..
Looking at the DL I personally think that trying to go to a 3-4 requires too many trades and draft choices…… I just dont see Harvey playing as a 3-4 OLB or as one of the front 3……. Reggie Hayward and Paul Spicer wont fit in there as OLB’s Spicer can play in rotation as one of the front 3, but He’s not a consistent force…….. not even when he plays as a DT in a 4-3………..
We would need to import a NT, at least while either John or Rob learn to play as a NT………. Draft a couple of big DT, to have some depth in the front 3, cause as much as I like the way Landri plays, he is even undersized (weight and muscle) to be a starter in a 4-3………….
And then you have the fact that HEY! you need to learn a whole new completely different system for the second year in a row……………….
I think that the Lbs can adjust to the system, but I think it is a very difficult thing to build a decent front 3 with what we’ve got………..
It's impossibly hard to transition to in a year
And that’s just simply a fact. We would either have to rely on expensive free agents or a multitude of rookies, and we only have 6 total picks in this draft. We would still be terrible defensively as our entire defense has to learn a radically different system, and Jack would probably get fired in the process. And then who knows what kind of head coach comes in….at that point, our personnel system would be so broken that switching to a 3-4 or going back to a 4-3 would both be disastrous.
So, to say it’s impossible is true; to oversimplify and say it’s immediately doable and wouldn’t waste a year of whatever the offense is doing is wrong. That’s just the way it is. The linebackers wouldn’t pick it up in just one offseason, and we have exactly zero people on our team right now to fill the NT and the two DE spots.

screw that
hes a 3-4 defensive coach, our team is built for a 4-3, we always ran 4-3 why would u sign a coach that doesnt even have that much on his resume, and what he does have is a losing season with a completely different deffense?? this boggles my mind a little. now i hope it works out, but i dont really see it………………….
Brown Kid
TOMLIN
was a 4-3 coach, came in to pittsburgh and let Dick Lebeau run his 3-4… We don’t have the personnel to switch to a 3-4 and it would take more then one draft to make the transition, plus, we have to many holes in other places! Tucker was brought in to just deal with the DB’s! Trust me…..

according to the Times Union...
Tucker is the new DC… not Del Rio… maybe it’s in name only… who knows…

I've officially decided to not believe anything
until I hear something from the team.

Haha I've noticed that too
Maybe it’s because we’re both from Southern California and we both recently graduated high school. I think I remember you saying that a long time ago.
