Del Rio taking over as DC

Not sure if anyone has heard yet. I was expecting to come on here and already see a post about it, but I heard on Jaguars this week that Jack is taking over the Defensive Coordinator position.  I personally think this was a great move seeing how Del Rio has been involved with our defense since day one. I think we will definitely see an improvement with Jack being the DC. What are you thoughts???

I think its probably a good move, because it will be a jack defense anyways.

Jack = D Coordinator….. Awesome!

I was hoping this would happen... I'll check and see if I can verify it now.

With Donnie gone we’ll have to find a new DB coach since I doubt that Mel Tucker will come in as DB coach after being Def Coordinator… We’ll see though.

This is really great news…

I Like it! I just hope it works out

This is risky for Jack, if the defense has another disappointing season and the team doesnt do well overall…the blame will all be on him

Yeah, Ihate that too but we'll see.

I hope he does well Im a big supporter of DR.

I don't know

if I can think of anyone that could do a better job. I wonder if this will change how Koetter does things on offense. Will he open things up more? Will we go for it just as much on 4th down? Will we be more run stopping oriented or otherwise. I believe people are going to have a tough time running screens on us.
Random note: Who else thinks we need another 3rd down LB, like a rover type that is almost a LB-SS hybrid. Someone that is really physical but best in coverage. Durant is good in coverage, but with more teams that have a good TE like Dallas Clark and a slot receiver like Anothony Gonzalez we need another guy that can cover like a saftey. I think this could greatly help the defense in getting off the field on 3rd down. I don’t really have anyone that I’ve been thinking about a lot, but Nic Harris comes to mind.

Nice Move

Mel Tucker can whip the DBs into shape and Jack is the new defensive coordinator. I don’t know about yall but I am exited about the defense next season, as I think a top ten overall defense is plausible next year.

Great Move

I think this is the best thing that has happened to our defense in a long time! Jack plays aggressive football and I can’t wait to see how he brings that to the defensive side of the ball. Our defense has nowhere but up to go after Greg Williams did nothing but drive them into the ground. I can’t say how much I love seeing Greg Williams go, I actually hurts it feels so good. Jack will bash some heads together (more then usual) and I hope he will get this defense back in the top 5.

We'll see...

What makes this so wonderful is he HAS to do great leaps of improvement to not get his cord cut and IF HE DOES….has any one seen the list of badass coaches without jobs? Holmgren…Bilick…Shanahan…Cowher….even if only two of them remain at the end of next season we are sure bets to nab a big name…

by JaguarsOwnage on Jan 23, 2009 11:30 AM EST reply actions

Oh we will see

Shanahan has lost his edge, Holmgren is burnt out and in need of a break, and Bilick and Cowher like their studio jobs too much to coach. Del Rio is the really deal and he will do great things.

by Messina on Jan 23, 2009 12:02 PM EST up reply actions

He is an excellent defensive mind and we'll finally get a chance to see him showcase his ability there.

I look forward to seeing how this unfolds, and I’d expect we’ll see Mike Tice (asst. Head Coach) take on more of a role in coaching the offense overall. I think Jack Del RIo is a fantastic coach and I’m very impressed by his attitude and character in dealing with the team’s issues. He really has taken ownership of the Jags’ problems.

Make or Break

I think with Jack taking the reigns, it will be a make or break season for 2009. He won’t be able to escape full blame, or we hope praise, at the end of next season.

Im excited about this........

Because we have some great great Lb’s……….. and JDR will surely use them a lot…………

I think the draft will bring us more LB's

Mel Tucker

I just read on Jaguars.com that "Del Rio named Mel Tucker the team’s defensive coordinator " I haven’t read anywhere else that JDR was taking over the defense, but I might be wrong.

Brian Sexton reported that Del Rio was going to be the DC

I believed him because he was really the only reputiable Jaguar source that had said anything about the matter. Now that it’s on jaguars.com, it’s official that he was wrong and Mel Tucker is the guy.

by Adam Stites on Jan 24, 2009 11:55 PM EST up reply actions

I'm starting to think

it’s some kind of mixture. I think Tucker will be the “coordinator,” but on Sunday I think JDR will be making the calls, or at least a large majority of them.

by Ewdtrey on Jan 25, 2009 2:06 AM EST up reply actions

Hopefully

I’m worried that Mel Tucker won’t know how to run a 4-3, cover two scheme that the Jaguars run. Maybe Del RIo will make the calls and slowly work Mel into taking more control over the defense.

by Bestjagfan on Jan 25, 2009 5:25 PM EST up reply actions

I hope

It will be happen. And I hope Mel signed with the team knowing what his role will be!
