Wow you really like cutting people
It’s hard to guess with the draft not done yet. If we get no one new high in the draft (first day) we keep, of those you mentioned,: Brad Meester, Khalif Barnes, Drayton Florence(he’s useful on ST and as a NB, and he may improve with a different D scheme), Reggie Hayward (He’s our best DL right now.), Jeremy Mincey(You might have him confused with James Wyche), we might cut Spicer and Rob Meier though, Cleo Lemon (you can put a jar in a 3rd qb spot, you don’t leave your team with a jar on the shelf as your only back up), Reggie Williams will stay (hey everyone thought Matt Jones was as good as gone), Jerry Porter has already taken too much money not to be kept, Fred Taylor is gonna be back (he’s already admitted that he is willing to take less money). I hope we keep Sensy, I hate the idea that we drafted him, lived through his injuries, and helped him progress just so some other team with money can have him. That angers me. explative explative, assuming he doesn’t come back.

The reality is somewhere in the middle
Since Barnes and Reggie Williams are going to be free agents and won’t need to be cut, they are absolutely gone. If Porter has indeed been part of ruining the chemistry, he could be gone too; Jack is not going to stand for this anymore. And they’ll probably try to keep Sensy, but I see some team somewhere (I’m looking at you, Washington and Dallas) throwing stupid ludicrous money at him, and the Jags won’t match that.

As Fred Taylor said
If we cut too many people the team will go 0-16.
We need to coax the best performance out of some and upgrade others.

Some Need To Go
But some of those you named need to stay as well. Jerry Porter probably won’t go next year, and neither will Drayton Florence. He will have a better year next year, maybe in a new system if Greg Williams goes. Reggie Hayward is the only reliable defensive line guy we have right now. And we need to try to resign Gerald Sensabaugh, even though it may be for a significant price.

Cleo Lemon.. GONE?
Honestly… that is ridiculous. Cleo is a great back-up QB and has shown he can get the job done… He is a competent back-up and I’m glad we have him behind David. There is no chance he’s gone whatsoever.

I Agree
If Cleo goes, who is going to be Garrard’s backup? Paul Smith? Or some rookie?

I'm not that high on Lemon
But I would much rather have him be one play behind David instead of Smith or if we bring in a rookie

I Agree...Lemon will be #2
I have a feeling it will be the same situation as last season. Garrard as guarenteed #1, Lemon will be a solid #2 and then Smith/a veteren sigining and a late round/unsigned draft choice will fight for a third slot…that is if we even keep three QBs which is probably unlikely.

From a need standpoint
They don’t need to keep three QBs. However, it’s high time the Jags start developing an eventual replacement for David, so there will probably be three QBs on the roster. Or there should be, at least.

You know
Garrard isn’t exactly young being that he’s 30. But suppose that he is a franchise QB. He looks to me like he could play at a high level for another 7 or 8 years. Now let’s assume we do draft another QB for the future. That means he’ll be sitting on the bench longer than his rookie contract. Doesn’t this kind of present a conundrum? (A waste of money and maybe a roster spot. A good waste of some prime years for the new QB. And we could be possibly be grooming him just so some other team can have him already groomed.)

Maybe
Garrard may have 7 or 8 years left in him, but not if he keeps taking a pounding like last season because of the sorry o-line.

True that
But I don’t expect most years to be that way.

No, but
You don’t expect any devastating ACL injuries or anything else either. That’s the sort of thing that would take away his running ability and make him older really quickly. You always want to have jars on the shelf, even at quarterback.

He's more of a pocket passser
now-a-days anyhow. At least when he has a clean pocket. So he really doesn’t need full mobility to play, though I’m sure it wouldn’t help.lol… If you want a guy just to step in just in case Garrard gets hurt for a while, you use a veteran like Lemon. Because if Garrard is young enough he should recover mostly if not completely. For example look at how Mcnabb has recovered from his injuries. Also look at the controversy created by his 2nd rd pick back up. (Kolb)

He led the league in QB rushing yards
And I shudder to think how awful our offense could’ve been without Garrard constantly making clutch 3rd and 4th down conversions with his legs. That’s a major part of his game, because he doesn’t have Peyton Manning’s arm. You take that away, and you significantly limit his play-making ability.
Look at the Patriots this year. Tom Brady went down with the devastating ACL injury, but because they had a jar on the shelf that they’d been working on for a couple years, they still won 11 games.

Sorry to be pedantic,
but I believe Tyler Thigpen had more rushing yards.
Also, like I was trying to say before, he’s actually a pocket passer when he has a good OL in front of him. Last year he had about 1/2 the rushing yards/attempts he had this year.
