Should Reggie Williams Go?
One of the decisions the Jaguars are facing this offseason is whether to let Reggie Williams go, as he is a free agent. It may not be much of a decision as it appears that the Jaguars are leaning towards not inviting him back. But the question is, do they need to reconsider. I have mixed emotions about Reggie. In 2007 he caught 10 touchdown passes and posted a 16 yards per catch average. However in 2008 he has a 9 yard per catch average and only 3 touchdowns. Although he had 30 something catches, while in 2007 he only had 20 something, it's obvious this season was a major drop off in the production wise. Though he only had three touchdown catches this year he still led the team in receiving touchdowns. I feel like he has more to offer to this team, but he and/or the Jaguars have not figured out what that is yet. Opinions?

He isn't a free agent...
He’s just finished his 5th year and his contract has an option for a sixth year. So he’s under contract unless the team decides not to take the option for a sixth year. He would then become a free agent (not waived or released).
He’s been complaining about his contract and has become a distraction. He hasn’t shown any propensity to be a top receiver, and he dropped countless balls this season. He’s not going to be with the team next year.

I'd bring him back
but only if he’s super cheap.

The option wouldn't as it's part of his rookie deal
And I doubt he’d want to come back here making the league minimum.

Yeah its not a completely realistic
option. Just saying that’s the only way I’d bring him back.

Lemme put it this way
I might do a feature ranking the Jags First rounders come draft time if there isn’t much buzz, and if that happens, I think the only WR behind him is a guy by the name of R Jay Soward.

You can find slow receivers with questionable hands
and that celebrate less after making a 5 yard catch anywhere.

Am I the only one who enjoyed his celebrations?
I thought they were entertaining and usually they made me laugh. I mean we watch football for entertainment right?

well.....
Well…. We need a WR that can produce and help win us some games. Williams had his chances. No more messin’ around, I’d love some dependable tough go to WR’s that can get the job done. If they can put on a show all the better.

Williams
made some tuff catches last year and the year before. If it was 3rd and 5 to go and the defense is playing press and playing aggressively there is no question in my mind amongst our WR’s from last year that if there was somone that had to go over the middle it would be him. Now that may sound like a very specific situation, but how many times did we find ourselves in that position last year.
Now if it’s 3rd and 10, I’m going to Matt Jones. If we need a big play guy, ….. IDK. lol
I’ve seen another weakness in Mike Walker’s game, I think. I haven’t seen him run underneath any passes.
At this point I think John Broussard would be an upgrade in the deep game. Now he’s on the CHI roster however. O well, that’s what the offseason is for right?

Reggie is not a quality reciever.
He is a performer. If dancing around and celebrating every catch he makes qualifies him as a performer. His celebrations do nothing for the jaguars game nor his personal stats. Lets not forget either that he has had 15 yard personal fouls for his acting like a punk either. I would like to see players like Reggie celebrate a win, not a catch. Wanna talk crap, do it where it doesnt cost the team 15 yards. Wanna make money, perform to the level of the pay you think you deserve. Wanna be a pro, act like one.

This guy was a 1st rounder and I beleive #9 overall - he's a BUST
You can find guys like this in rounds 5 – 7 and UFA’s. This team has three 1st rounders (Matt Jones, Reggie Williams, and Troy Williamson) and one 2nd rounder (Jerry Porter) currently on the most anemic WR corp in the entire league.
WHY – would you bring Reggie back? Or any of the others. Blow up this WR corp and start anew.

Its time to go
Williams has been a bust without a doubt, and is just another number one draft pick doing nothing. Grant you in the 2007 season he was pretty good, but not great. He may have lead the team this past season with three touchdown catches but lets face it our pass game was terrible this year. The only bright spot in the pass game has been Matt Jones and Dennis Northcutt, use them as a base and get ride of the rest. Williamson has none nothing, Walker doesn’t play up to his potential and Porter, well we all know that Porter was the biggest bust of the season. Williams needs to go, we don’t need his complaining in the locker room.
