Speaking of HOF....

With the recent discussion of whether Pat Tillman should be elected to the Hall of Fame, it got me thinking about debating other players merits for the HOF. The two players that I think are going to be the most interesting players are Jaguars...Jimmy Smith and Fred Taylor. Smith had 862 receptions, 12, 287 recieving yards and 67 touchdowns along with 5 Pro Bowl Selections. Taylor currently has 11, 271 rushing yards, 62 touchdowns, and a career 4.6 ypc along with a Pro Bowl selection. Both of these players have been the face of the Jaguars franchise for years. Now in all honesty I don't think either has the HOF calibur numbers to make it to the HOF. They are going to be on the bubble of the HOF. Fred Taylor still has a shot at improving his chances but unless he has another season like 2007 (unlikely with MJD now becoming top dog) he isnt going to make it. Now saying that, this is why I believe one of the two of them should be elected to the HOF. The HOF represents the NFL as a whole and the greatest players in the NFL. It represents the teams, the players and coaches. Jacksonville has been in the league for 15+ years now and deserves a player to represent them in the HOF. Smith and Taylor are two of the greatest of the Jacksonville Jaguars, if not the best, and I think that Jacksonville deserves some representation in the HOF. Alright, so ive said my piece...Opinions?

Jimmy has no shot, sadly

If Fred passes Jim Brown, his chances will be much better.

I'm sadly going to have to agree

Art Monk barely got into the Hall after many years of eligibility and Jimmy has less yards, receptions, and TDs

Yeah Fred has better choice

because there are too many wide recievers who will going to be a Hall of Famer in the next 5-10 years, who have better numbers, or Super Bowl titles under their belt. Fred is constantly produced good numbers in the past few years, he made finally the Probowl last year, he might can ross the Jim Brown line with a good next season as well.
And by the way what do you think of MJD chances to becoming a hall of fame player (if he stays with the Jags like Fred, and he play like he plays now, and stays a touchdown maschine for a couple of more years?)

I see no reason why not...

LT of the Chargers is already considered a Hall of Famer, and he’s still playing. MJD could easily eclipse LT’s numbers if LT continues to struggle with injuries late in his career. As long as MJD doesn’t get a serious injury, I think he has a great shot at it. That’s a big IF though.

MJD

is already tied for #140 in career rushing TDs. If he just gets another season of 10+ TDs next year like he always has, he’ll jump all the way to top 75.

MJD on a crazy pace

He has scored 38 touchdowns (34 Rushing, 4 Recieving) and he has 40 if you include kick returns. He has all of these touchdowns as a BACK-UP! He not only is on pace for rushing TD’s…he could have a soild shot at making the top 15 for total touchdowns all-time because of his versatility.

But his

total may actually go down when he becomes a starter. Especially if Greg Jones turns into a TD vulture. Besides its not like Fred Taylor was getting a lot of TD’s.
Hopefully I’m wrong though.

TD

I hope they do use Greg Jones more around the goal line. He is in my opinion the best ball carrying full back in the league.

I think it's debatable

Leron McClain is pretty good himself, at least in his system. I think Jones is a little more well rounded though catching the ball and or bouncing outside. But I think McClain is one of the best inside runners in the league and he was a pretty good FB before Neal got there. I’m still upset that McClain got into the Probowl at FB though, because he hardly played the position(FB) this year. I think it should have gone to Jones, IMO.

He is Good

Leron McClain is a good fit for the Ravens pound the ball type scheme. But I think Greg Jones is even a better ballcarrier. And you are right about Leron McClain going to the Probowl as a FB. It doesn’t make sense because Lerenzo Neal played full back for the Ravens, even though McClain is a FB by trade.
