Jags interview Raiders Special Teams Coach
in the wake of Joe D leaving for Big D, the Jaguars interviewed Brian Schneider, Raiders special teams coach, for the exact same position. The Raiders have had the best net punting and punt coverage for the past couple years. Though Schneider is a good choice, he still has an interview with Seattle to finish before the Jags can proceed any further.
in other news Gregg Williams is the leading canidate for the Green Bay D-coordinator Position.

I wouldn't mind seeing Schneider join
Although those punting numbers happen to be because Shane Lechler is awesome

Don’t forget Schneider coached MJD at UCLA on punt returns. Even though MJD will take a more heavy load on offense and less on ST you know Schneider can really coach special teams.
Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Fred Taylor. Sounds about right.

DON'T FORGET
Coach Schneider has a former FIRST ROUND pick returning punts for him in Oakland! In which we won’t have.
Johnnie Lee Higgins (UTEP, VERY FAST) However, think he has alot of upside and would like to see what he can do for us!

We have a few guys on the roster
that can do what Higgins does.

Spoon has a fumbling problem! Do we have potential to do what he (Higgins) does? YES. Are they at that potential yet?? NO!

No
I don’t want to see MJD returning any more. He’s the #1 RB now and he’s going to be expected to be the workhorse getting 20+ carries a game.

I completely agree
I was just saying we have that guy though. To be honest I really like MJD in last year’s role. Which is why I would really like someone like Knowshon Moreno or Donald Brown, for the future that is. Freddy T can still carry a good load. I don’t think he should be starting. But I’d still nearly split the carries and give MJD his share of returns, and screens and such in the passing game.

Spoon
Could use some coaching. I think he has a problem seeing the holes. Sometimes he runs right into the glut. Not that lots of returners don’t do that, but the good ones see the holes. Of course, that may not be coachable. IDK

Spoony
I am curious to see what an offseason of a NFL weight training program would do for him.

First Rounder? Where?
I’m lost. If you’re talking about Justin Miller, formerly of the Jets, he returns kicks not punts. Higgins returns punts and didn’t really start turning it on until midseason. I really like Schneider and really hopes he does get the job. And even though I was going to hold this thought for my blog on SN I am hoping the Jags target Shane Lechler of Oakland. They can improve ST and defense with that addition.
Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Fred Taylor. Sounds about right.

COME ON...
The first rounder is higgins…. NOT MILLER…. I know the difference. Look at higgins record for returning punts … not trying to argue, just stating that the raiders had return men on ST.

Witherspoon
He just needs to add size and get coached up on fundamentals, such as ball carrying and carrying vision. He has some of the pieces, he just needs to put them together and find a few more pieces.

They gotta let
the guy create more, like the Desean Jacksons and the Higgins’s. Both of them sometimes lose yardage. But they are boom or bust types. They are not 2/3/4 yards and a cloud of dust guys. Like I said they may lose you 4 or 5 yards sometimes, but they also give you TD returns. I said it in the preseason that i was skeptical about Spoon running through the middle of a wedge. It’s not like he’s gonna bust his own holes, so let him use his speed from time to time to go around people, otherwise he’s useless. Personally, I’d like to see MJD and Spoon out there together more often. MJD could do a minimal amount of blocking, if he doesn’t get the ball (he’s one of the few guys that can block and somewhat keep up with Spoon.) And if the opposing coverage teams are spread out so Spoon has no where to run around them then he can let MJD return the ball or lateral it to him so he can take it up the gut. Keep in mind this idea is mainly for extenuating circumstances, like the playoffs or a last second need a good return situation of an important game.

Fine With Me
I could live with losing a few yards on punt returns every if Spoon could return some for touchdowns too. Maybe will we see him be allowed to do that more next year. If you think about it, he was so close to busting one lose several times this past season. I predict 2-3 touchdowns next year if he is allowed to create.
