The Seahawks Scare Me
I'm a little concerned with our upcoming game with Seattle. Everyone's in a state of euphoria as our beloved Jags just beat 2 division rivals: the Texans in a thriller and a complete beatdown of tenn that effectively killed their season (very satisfying).
The Seahawks are not to be taken lightly. I point out that it is WE that must travel across the country. Seattle is currently 1-3. They may come out with a what do we have to lose mentality. They have an excellent QB in Matt Hasselbeck. I believe that if he can stand upright, he'll play in this game (would love to get confirmation on this from the Field Gulls guys). Hasselbeck is a streaky QB who can get hot and when he does, look out - he's one of the best and can carve up a D like a Xmas turkey. Throw in the fact that our pass defense just plain stinks and currently ranks dead last in the league AND we do not generate QB pressure or hits on the QB and you have a recipe for a disasterous trip out West.
So those who have penciled in a win with this trip out West, don't count those chickens just yet. I believe the Jags should win this game, but I take nothing for granted here. This has all the makings of a classic ambush game. JDR and the veterans on this team need to drive this point home with the "yutes".
Go Jags!
Update - NFL Network is reporting that Hasselbeck participated in limited practice for the 2nd straight day and it appears that he will start Sunday.
Injury Report (Thursday) -

Hasselbeck is not 100% yet…
Seneca Wallace will start in his place…. and he is a shifty little bastard. Got to Watch him. Also, Walter Jones will not be back either.

yeah - I know they have injury issues and you're right about Wallace
There injury issues on the O line may not be as large an impact given our impotency at pass rushing – I’m just saying caution is warranted.

pressure is not the same as sacks
but one should be able to assum that pressure would eventually cause sacks

" All signs are pointing toward Matt Hasselbeck returning to quarterback the reeling Seahawks on Sunday against Jacksonville.
The three-time Pro Bowl passer looked sharp while completing a second consecutive practice Thursday. It’s his first work since he broke a rib Sept. 20 on a dive for the goal line at San Francisco.
The team officially listed him as limited on the daily practice report it filed to the league. Hasselbeck took the majority of snaps with the first-team offense, with backup Seneca Wallace left with only a few. "

I find this crazy
Broken ribs are a serious health hazard. If he gets hit a bit he could be in trouble. Why risk it? It makes no sense to me, even if the team is desperate for a win.

If Hasselback plays
and that will be a nearly 100% Hasselbeck, prepare for a tough fight. That offense having quite good weapons if you have a good QB:Burleson(Hasselback’s favourite target) TJ Houshmanzadeh; Julius Jones; Edgerrin James; the TE John Carlson.
If Wallce will play he is mobile, hard to sack, but he is at least 10% less acurate them Hasselback.
On defense, they had Lofa Tatopu; Vic said the key will be how he will be blocked. And then theree is Aaron Curry; I’m interested how he will play; many said he is the best player from this draft class. And there is Deon Grant, former Jaguar too.
And here is the Atmosphere of Qwestfield, with the maybe most enthusiastic crowd of the NFL!
They have weapon, dispite the major injurywave. If Hasselback plays (and play well), we have a tough game! Wih Wallace in starting QB, if the Jagaurs play good without big mistakes and errors; we can win the game! (If the Jags play like last week, then it is a no brainer: W!)

Personally...
I’d rather have Hasselback playing QB because he can be rattled, and we’ve done it to him in the past. Wallace is more of an unknown quantity to the coaching staff.

I'm Afraid
Of Wallace. He’s shifty in the pocket, slippery in the open field, and doesn’t turn the ball over like most backups do. He can win games.

im excited for this game!
I will be one of about five Duval-ians at the game rooting for our guys. The atmosphere here in Seattle is pretty slum; fans are down about the teames record and people are complaining about officiating and injuries looking for someone to blame. I just cant imagine the Jags losing to a team that is injured at the O-line position with a QB that wont be 100% (if he plays).

I agree, this game scares the hell out of me. We all need to keep in mind that this is still a rebuilding year. Be careful about adjusting your expectations based on wins against two lower tier teams. I’m just as excited as you guys are, however, let’s not forget just how young this team is.

A little hype isn't bad
as long as it’s tempered. You guys are killing my excitement man. Forget that. I’m going to be excited and expect my team to win. Period. Looking at Seattle and looking at us, I feel the Jags are the better team. If we do not win, I will be upset. That’s just how it is. I expect for us to beat a team that is not as good. Why is that such a big deal?
Everyone follows the popular opinion around here it seems. One person says don’t get over excited, everyone says okay and then reminds everyone else. I’m over excited, and I think it’s fine, because we will be 3-2 by Sunday night.

i noticed that too
in the spring i wrote an article about how Garrard would evolve. a lot agreed
by the time the pre-season cam around it seems that 90% of ppl had already traded Garrard in their own minds because he wasn’t living up to expectations
about this game. yeah. I expect a win. but Seattle is still a good opponent so it should be close regardless.
no hype at all

I always expect a win... and a loss
I get super-excited for every game, and I always expect us to win because I know how much potential our young team has. At the same time, I expect every single game of the season to be a tough one with the opposing team having a chance to beat us, because I know how many young guys we have at key positions. I also firmly believe that ANY team in the NFL has the chance to play lights out on a given Sunday, where every little thing goes their way…. just look at the Bengals : they lost 1 they should have won, and have won 2 they should have lost.

Why this game has distinct value...
1. Last year’s team would have definitely lost this upcoming game.
2. With a win, we’re above .500.
3. It represents a cross-country road challenge.
4. If we win, the media will start calling us “for real.”
5. If we lose, we fall below .500 and we’ll continue to hover in anonymity.
There’s no doubt this is a big game. It’s a big test, and it’s gonna show the grit and focus of our club. And I agree with the above posts, it’s not gonna be easy. The Seahawks have fast, smart linebackers just like we do. So, Koetter’s gotta be smart again. And defensively, this is the time for our D-Line to show up and put some sacks on the board. If that happens, Jaguars win.
Go Jags! Let’s see that 3-2 come Sunday night like Blair has promised.

The media would say...
…the Jags are likely to reach 4-2, with a no-brainer coming up v. St. Loius, and they are now look like a potential threat for a wild card spot. Also, our offense will gain more attention. This game against Seattle is time for our Defense to pick up some slack. A big performance out of them will help our media case a lot

Sometimes nobrainers
are the toughest to win.
I remember in 2005 when the 49ers were a horrible team like now the Rams, and the Jags beat them here just 10-9 in december when they went into the playoffs later!!!!
So don’t underestimate the opponents. I hope the Jags will not do that next week,
And by the way, if Hasselback will really star, we will not crush them. In opposite it will be a veeeeeeery hard battle. Don’t count to a win on Sunday automaticlly folks, because it is a very tough game to win!

Zoltan
One thing you are forgetting is that in 2005, our defense was stout, but our offense was inconsistent. We would show up one game and the next game forget how to play. Remember the Houston game at the beginning of the 2006 season? It made me wanna throw up. Our offense has caught fire the last two weeks, and I only expect us to build on that. I do not think this game will be tough.
I don’t even think Hasselback is going to make it through the entire game. He doesn’t have an O-line, and his ribs are all jacked up. Sounds like a recipe for disaster.
If Garrard plays on point like last week, and he doesn’t turn the ball over to guys like Lofa Totupu, then we will be more than fine.
It’s funny because you seem like you’re overly cautious, and I’m probably over confident.

One of us will be right
on Sunday, and I hope it will be you.
I agree with your points, but let’s not forget the offense could struggle anytime. The “hot offense” is not a established part of this team yet, but looks like we are improving!

We should be able to run on their defensive line easily, as long as we get a block or two on their linebackers. That is the strength of their defense. With Marcus Trufant out, their #2 CB will be covering our #1 WR, and their #3cb will be covering our #2WR. From what I remember their #3 CB is a late round rookie that can and should be schooled by either Holt or Walker, depending on who the rookie covers.
Mathis should either be covering Houszmansadah or Burleson the whole game. I prefer he take out Burleson because he is more of a threat to go all the way, and Cox should be able to handle Housz, who is more of a possession receiver than a #1.
If Branch is 100% we need a LBer to bring him down hard. They also have a rookie Butler who flashed in the preseason.
The dark horse is their TE Carlson. If we can contain him, and limit the catches by their #1 and #2 recievers we should win this game.
BTW, their special teams is not something to write home about. Olindo Mare missed a couple crucial FGs that would have tied the game with Chicago. They are FGs Scobee would have easily made.

good scouting
Do you think they’ll bring pressure (blitz) like they did with the Colts? I’m thinking they will try to make David get the ball out quickly with pressure.
by OGN on Oct 9, 2009 6:54 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
They will blitz us
like their lives depended upon it. And if we can’t make them pay for it a few times, they could suffocate us on offense. We WILL need to make plays. Luckily I think we have a lot of playmakers that can do that for us.
by Ewdtrey on Oct 11, 2009 2:27 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Well I didn't know
my comment was going to be so true. They suffocated our offense with the blitz, and we took out one of our biggest playmakers in Mike Walker.
I tell you what, I didn’t see a bad team.(Speaking of us) With the exception of a lack of a pass rush, I just saw a good team that just didn’t seem to make plays at the right time; and you couple that with a hungry oppenent with a lot of timely help with penalties and mistakes and you get what we saw.
