Bryan Smith gets Nod as RDE Starter over Groves
The Jaguars spent their top two draft picks last season in search of a pass-rusher, but they may have found the player they need on another team’s practice squad.

The Jaguars will remain in the 4-3 defensive alignment to which they returned in Sunday’s 24-21 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.
"Our plans are not to tinker and go back and forth," coach Jack Del Rio told reporters at Monday’s press conference. Del Rio was speaking of the decision he made last week to abandon the 3-4 defense the Jaguars had played through the first seven games, and return to the 4-3 scheme that was the Jaguars’ base defense through Del Rio’s first six years as the team’s coach.

Might as well get all this tinkering done now, I guess.

I don't mind the tinkering
if the players can keep up with it. It seems to throw opposing offenses off. We kept the Colts to 14 pts when we played the 3-4 early on and now switching back we dominated 56 minutes of that game.

the only one i didnt like was when they started Tra over Eugene because, in JDR’s words, he felt that Tra gave them the best chance to win… which sounds perfectly fine, but, if you’re going to groom your rookie tackle that cost a boat load of money, why not keep him in unless he’s hurt?… what do i know… i’ll shut up now.

Well
you want to win the game, first and foremost. And no one on the team including the coaches ever said they were going to play the young guys to groom them for the future. I’ve only ever heard them say they are going to play whoever gives them the best chance of winning. I think JDR saw Tra completely neutralize KVB. And if Tra did it once why would you mess with that. It’s sound logic. It’s one of those things. If we win the game, no one says a peep. But because we lost…..

It's a bit of a combo
he’s been seeing some doubles with Hanz gone and when Kearse was still starting he was being stopped with just a TE many-a-time. But he’s been hurt a little he’s getting a little older and he’s been seeing stiffer competition so far this year. Tra Thomas has probably been his easiest opponent all year.
