Playing the what-if Monroe wasn't available at #8 was intriguing
I think it’d be good filler for another show. I’m surprised Percy Harvin came to mind, guess it’s the Florida ties? He has been great but there were, and maybe still are, so many issues with him. Regardless I had fun taking a minute to think about these guys who were possible BPA picks:
Brian Orakpo (drafted 13th) came to mind first. Isn’t he almost exactly what we hoped Groves could be? A 260lb strong side 3-4 LB and weak side 4-3 DE pass rushing specialist… only one with 7 sacks so far. Imagine how valuable that versatility and pressure would have been. With or without our injury woes this year we’d still need talent, and if we really wanted a 3-4 you need an army of LB’s. Here’s a great vid of “pop”, it makes me think he could have made our D a LOT better even in his rookie year: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AglSpWWkGbE#t=0m09s
Josh Freeman (drafted 17th), we keep asking about a QB prospect and here’s one that exceeded expectations in terms of raw talent. In three games he’s already made a number of passes few could have, and has shown remarkable pocket pretense that somehow got better with the NFL transition. You can’t say that about many QB prospects…. He’s of course far from perfect, clearly not ready to lead a team, but in my book and it’s just a matter of time which makes him a perfect fit; the Jags could have brought him along slowly. TB could still screw it up, but I see a top 10 QB becoming less a possibility and more of an inevitability.
On to WR, sure picking a WR 1st isn’t suppose to be Gene’s style, but it’s hard not to think of them this year was a bumper crop with highly rated Michael Crabtree, Nicks, Britt, Maclin and Harvey all working out. Any one could have changed the feel of our passing game quite a bit. I bet a lot of Jags fans would be loath to tinker with what we’ve lucked into, but think Arizona….
If Monroe wasn't available the Jags probably would've traded the pick

My ideal draft scenario back then
Was trading down a few spots and getting Josh Freeman
