2010 Jaguars Needs

The following are the needs I believe that the Jags will address in the up coming off season. These needs will be filled either thru the draft, free agency or undrafted free agents. I will start with the offensive side first. We need to upgrade the interior line positions particularly left guard and center. We should spend at least 1 draft pick on this need. Our tackles are set for at least the next 5 years. Our tight ends are serviceable and we may get one via the undrafted free agents. Wide receiver we need at least 1 to keep every ones competiveness going. Running back depends on where we draft and who is available you never have too many good running backs. Full back it depends on Greg Jones injury and how Brock Bolen plays. Now for the million dollar question, QUARTER BACK we need to address this with a draft pick, but not necessarily a number 1. There are several outstanding quarterbacks in this class. That is why Gene, Jack and the scouting department need to be on the same page for this pick and not pick the home town hero just because he is the home town hero. Now for the defense. We need at least 1 defensive tackle who can disrupt opposing teams blocking schemes.this should be addressed in the draft. We also need a defensive end who is a pass rusher and finisher. This need may be fixed thru free agency or the draft. Linebackers we are set but you can never have to many good ones. Cornerback we are set at for the time being we have 3 decent ones who will get better with a pass rush. Safety is a position that we need some help at or at least have a tackling clas for a couple of them. We need to bring in a place kicker to challenge Scobee and to save his leg during the pre season. We need a punter to push Podlesh and maybe even win the job. RECAP we need to spend a draft choice on the following positions. Offensive line 2 Quarterback 1 Defensive line 2 defensive back 1 That is what I see that we need.

I agree. There are some gaurds that I saw on the free agent list that could provide some good protection for David. Chris Snee from the Giants is the guy I hope the Jags can pick up, hes a very good lineman, plus Baas from the Dolphins is good as well. I think we should look to the draft for our future center.

As for QB, I think a guy like lefevour in the 3rd would be a good pick, a developmental guy until David is done.

On the D Line, Ray Edwards from Minnesota would be a great pick up for DE, also a guy like Victor Adeyanju from the Rams is a guy I think has a lot of ability. I live in STL and I see this guy has potential but the Rams just refuse to give him a chance. He can play both End and Tackle and would be a great rotational guy to get. Big John also only has a couple years left in him, lets get another late round DT to develop like Knighton.

On the DBs, I think its time to get some talent at safety, Taylor Mays in the draft would be solid. Or if Antione Bethea or Nick Collins reach the free agent market, they would be great pickups.

Taylor Mays

would not improve our safety position. It’s likely he would even struggle on coverage teams. He’s just not a football player. I do like Bethea and Collins, but I don’t feel like either are options with the current income situation.

I agree with all your points

However, I rather get Morgan burnett instead of Mays.

I only said Mays B/C...

Berry will be gone by then, however, another player who would be good is OJ Atogwe if he proves healthy after his injury. I don’t think he will go back to STL.

Will be too

expensive especially for coming off a serious injury.

maybe..

But he may take less to play for a contender, being that he has won a total of 5 games the past 3 years

Pass rush pass rush pass rush pass rush pass rush pass rush!!!!!!!!!

We keep complaining about people like Nelson, but if a quarterback gets to sit in the pocket and go thru all of his recivers and then start over we will always be in trouble no matter who is in coverage. Our D hardly ever gets any 3 and outs.

You forgot to mention coaches as a need

We have more than adequate players on the defensive line. I have to believe with more imaginative schemes, stunts, blitzs, etc. we would be getting a lot more pressure.

Safety

May not be our biggest concern… gerald alexander has been playing lights out recently.. and mel tucker has done a great job as this defense has really progressd… Lets see how they play with mathis and henderson back before we judge the saftey play… alll of them have improved… thou anthony smith and gerald alexander just make plays..

Word

Gerald Alexander isn’t the one who needs to be replaced. Reggie hasn’t played horrible though, but lets just say he better have a good camp next year.

True

I just get frustrated watching Reggie play, he has so much potential, but I am unsure it will ever be realized. Plus, he needs to learn to wrap up, they teach that in high school.

Yeah

He just likes to cut tackle. Thing about that is, if you get a guy with really good balance and core strength, a lot of times he can bounce off of that and continue upfield.

Remenber it is not who you are , but what you do that defines you. GO JAGS

He's improved

Really, I haven’t seen anyone miss tackles as of recently.

Jags needs

C; FS; DE (who can sack-I think a FA here); DT(Henderson’s succesor?) a LG; a QB (Garrard’s succesor) and a new LB (I think Clint Ingram will not play here in 2010)

Even with Ingram gone,

which isn’t for certain, I think we already have his replacement in Allen.

Boy do I love UDFA's

I don't have names

But Lageman just said on JTW; that the Jags should target a proven veteran who “had no big; sexy name”; but he can still play. I hope Gene will find a guy like that in the offseason.

Jared Allen

Oh wait. Aaron Kampman, oh wait. Who can play well but doesn’t have a sexy name that is going to be a free agent. Lageman does a lot of talking…

How about

Tyler Brayton? or…Derrick Burgess, Ryan Denney talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Denney is awful

No way would he ever be considered

I'd Be Cool With

Derrick Burgess. I didn’t know he was scheduled to be a free agent.

There's plenty of good ones

Ray Edwards from Minn, Darryl Tapp from Seattle, Elvis Dumervil from DEN if he hasnt already been resigned, Maybe Marcus spears from DAL.

I really like Edwards, but I think what we may need more than a DE is a really good DT to replace Big John. With the D Line, it all starts with the DTs. When you have good DTs, that leaves your ends on the outside one on one, where as without good DTs, the DTs can be blocked one on one and the ends have a harder time.

Additionally

There is probably gonna be some big time talent at DT this year being cut, etc. Wilfork may be leaving NE and I would go hard after him.

Also, Glenn Dorsey could very well be a possibility.

I like those players

more than the ones I named, only problem is that they will be much more pricey; especially Edwards, Elvis, and Wilfork. Spears is a little big to be a true pass rushing threat at 4-3 End.
Tapp is great option though.
