Pass Rush is needed to win in the AFC South

Would anyone be in favor of going after Aaron Kampman next year he is 30 coming off a injury and doesnt seem to be needed  in Green Bay and he will be a free agent so if their was money to sign him in an uncapped year this team could very well be on there way to the playoffs they have the foundation for a good team and PASS RUSH is the missing piece to be a winner more consistently

we could also draft Jerry Hughes in the first rd next yr

I was a proponent

for trading Aaron this year before he could to expensive in free agency. Trade for him then let him go in FA where we could a 3rd back, or resign him without everyone bidding for him. But now….He’s another year older and he’s coming off an ACL now. Rather just take our lumps now until we can get a pass rusher to replace him.

by replace I mean, whoever our 3rd DE is.

They say Hardy has some injury problemos

Derrick Morgan, Georgia Tech, is supposely safer and equal to Hardy.

Georgia Tech

Always puts out pretty good defensive ends.

all i know is

i want somebody that looks like demarcus ware against the saints last night. Where can i find myself a clone of that guy?

All you need is consistency.

Yeah a pass rush is nice but you can still win it without one. The Jaguars are a good team they are just inconsistent. One week they look great the next week they fall off the map. The Colts are able to win because they have consistency, not because they are head and shoulders better than everyone else.

You Don't Need

A great pass rush to win, but you still need one that generates more than 14 sacks. This can add to team consistency. The offense has a bad day, the defense can pick up the slack, and vice versa. The great teams have both units show up in the same game.

The Colts

have a consistently good pass rush.

by Ewdtrey on Dec 20, 2009 2:57 PM EST up reply actions

Not tru actually

at least not this year. They’ve improved a lot this year. Despite everyone trying to run on them every week, they are in the middle of the league. As good as we are against the run, we are only 4 spots above them in the league.(9 Yds per game difference)

by Ewdtrey on Dec 20, 2009 11:56 PM EST up reply actions

I remember

That being the focus of their off-season; beefing up the middle of the defense to slow down opposing running games.

They've

also made a number of goal line stops this year too. They stopped us at the goal line. They stopped the Ravens at the goal line. To me that’s pretty impressive.

Making

Clint Session a full time starter, along with pulling Freddy Keiaho out of the starting lineup helped. I don’t remember Session starting until the final games of last season, in which the Colts began to improve against the run.

Wrong

Session started 15 games last year.

You don’t win by running and stopping the run, if you did, the Jags would be SB contenders.

You win by Passing and stopping the pass.

by furrycolt on Dec 21, 2009 10:26 PM EST up reply actions

My Bad

I though Session wasn’t a fulltime starter last year. You win games by passing and stopping the pass. You win championships by getting hot in the playoffs and peaking at the right time. If you won by passing and stopping the pass, the Cardinals and Patriots would have another/a Super Bowl to their credit.

The Steelers had

a terrible running game last year, they won by passing. The patriots were done over by a team that stopped the pass by rushing the passer effectively.

by furrycolt on Dec 22, 2009 9:05 AM EST up reply actions

But the Giants

Ran the ball, and the Steelers found ways to run the ball in the playoffs. Both of those defenses stopped the run as well.

The patriots didn't need to run their passing O was so good

And the Cardinals were definitely a passing O too.

What good is stopping the run if the other team passes it 40 times a game?

by furrycolt on Dec 23, 2009 9:11 PM EST up reply actions

As long

as you can keep them from scoring TD’s you can just the ball enough to keep them from throwing it 40 times.

by Ewdtrey on Dec 23, 2009 9:40 PM EST up reply actions

All

About keeping them off the field. Lets say you give Peyton Manning 10 possessions. That gives him more chances to score, while if you limit him to 6 by running the ball, at least on a 50-50 ratio, you have a better chance not to go one and done in the playoffs, like Peyton Manning himself has recently experienced.

I don’t buy into running the ball and stopping the run all out gets wins, I think championship playoff teams get hot at the right time, no matter what their philosophy is, on either side of the ball.

the biggest part of having a good run game

is having a qb that can convert on 3rd downs to move the chains

Garrard

was great at that last Thursday.
