In case you spent the past day in a coma on advanced life support, you already know that Urban Meyer has quit as head coach of the Florida Gators. (link to SBN blog Alligator Army)
He cited health reasons. He's ignored his health for years, and the stress has taken its toll. Apparently his doctors told him that if he didn't quit now and focus on getting healthy, he was going to drop dead soon. (This is a very difficult diagnosis, considering he's only 45.)
Meyer will coach the Gators' Sugar Bowl appearance at Cincinnati. He intends to remain in Gainesville and, for now, contribute to the Gators in some sort of unspecified off-the-field capacity. No word on a replacement yet, though many fans want Charlie Strong to rip up his as-yet-unsigned head coaching contract at Louisville and return to the Gators.
However, I just recently had an epiphany.
What if, in a few years, after Urban Meyer has gotten healthy again, he became head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars?
