Maurice wasn't getting it done it looks like

He’s been in the league 9 years, maybe he was getting old. Still odd to see us playing with our o-line this late in the year, hopefully it will work out.

He was getting banged up

every week in practice. Not a good sign for him. Wish he hadn’t gotten hurt early on, but it gave Uche his try at bat. I wonder what Cameron has to offer, because he did not impress me in the preseason. He has upside, but he also has a lot to learn.
Kennard will probably provide depth at Safety considering we cut Russell and Considine is banged up.

Wow.

Gene has been consistent with that from day one – I applaud – dead wood needs to be cut.

Jordan Black

He just got the long term contract. It’s guard where we’re thin.

Why are we releasing these guys?

Why can’t we trade them for … something, anything … 5th, 6th rounder, whatever. I’m sure Gene tries, but it’s frustrating to invest so much in these guys and just let them go for someone else to pick up.

Draft picks are more valuable than aging veterans

I’m sure Gene would’ve tried to get something if he could, but nobody is going to cough up a draft pick, even a late one, for guys like Landri or Williams.

by JagsAlex87 on Dec 5, 2009 10:19 PM EST up reply actions

For Mau yeah you're right

But Landri found a new team within 24 hours(carolina)… So….

I think we should....

draft 2 guards with our first couple of picks and start them from day 1 even though we have super big holes elsewhere.

by moufpuncha on Dec 5, 2009 11:11 PM EST reply actions

Going over the top there

Wher are we gonna get a pass rush if we keep drafting OL with our 1st 2 picks every year? Remember, we will soon need a center.

by Ewdtrey on Dec 6, 2009 3:10 AM EST up reply actions

I said this

We need to find a proven veterann FA who fits here; have lot left in the tank; and can sack the QB. I don’T trust for a while in rookie DEs. Sorry!

We don't want our guards sacking the QB...

I'm expecting a couple of trades prior to the draft...

for picks. I’m expecting that this will be Nelson’s last year as a Jaguar.

talk about dead weight.

He should be the one to get dropped.

by moufpuncha on Dec 5, 2009 11:32 PM EST up reply actions

He's steadily

improving. I think if we ever get a pass rush, his talent can be displayed better because he wont have to be exposed so often. If you got a good pass rush all you have to do is follow the Qb’s eyes because if it’s not going there a lot of times it’s going to be a sack before the QB can go to his second read.

by Ewdtrey on Dec 6, 2009 3:13 AM EST up reply actions

i think it should be the other way around for Reggie Nelson. i don’t think that any player should need others to play better or differently for them to become a star in any sense. i believe that an individual should mold his talents to fit in with those on his side of the team (offense, defense, special teams) so he maximizes not only HIS potential, but improves the overall TEAM.

That's what you want

You want a player that can play in whatever scheme and with whatever talent around him. But all I’m trying to say is that if you fix the pass rush, you will get improved safety play. It’s like getting a 2 for 1. If all Nelson has to do is head hunt, he can be a good player as it pertains to production.
Regardless, he is playing better.

by Ewdtrey on Dec 6, 2009 6:25 PM EST up reply actions

agreed on having him do mainly head-hunting… he can hit solid when he wants

IMO... he's only playing well enough to be trade bait

but not good enough that you’d want to go out of your way to keep.

good way to view the situation with him

I think

Groves has his last chances in this 5 games. If he blews he’s gone. Manuwai maybe a guy in this category.
Nelson? Well he is on the edge; but with passrush may he is improving.
BUT! all the news that the Jags scout are looking for DBs; might say we will see him traded away.

I must admit I don’t like the Landri move by gene more nad more. He was picked up by Carolina 24 hours after he was waived-Means he had value. I thought he will be the Tony McDanile of the next offseason. It was a bit dumb move…
Gene’s 2 error/mistake as a FA (the first was signing Brian “I cannot tackle anyone” Russell; instead of Bernard “I’ ll boost a even a sticking secondary” Pollard. Well good for Gene he is cut the guy and now he is with the Texans; but he missed Pollard…we will see him today how much…

So much Trade Fodder

Henderson may also be one to go

I would trade

Henderson right now. I would have traded him as soon as we went back to the 4-3. He’s still playing well, but the fall off from him to the backups is not worth his salary, especially if you can get a draft pick for him.

by Ewdtrey on Dec 6, 2009 6:28 PM EST up reply actions

oh well. so much for Kennard Cox… when i saw they had released Cox, i was scared it was Derek. D’oh!
