Mo Williams returns to Michigan
My Lions continue to try and plug holes and build some depth by picking up Maurice Williams from the Jags. Though we are not in any kind of playoff race, except the race for Ndaumkong Suh, the Lions need to finish the season strong to hopefully build some momentum for 2010. Our Guard play has been brutal this year and our second year Right Tackle is also not playing well. It is funny but the Lions best O lineman has been Jeff Backus, our LT and favourite whipping boy of the press and most fans.
My question for the fans on this site is; Can Maurice Williams help the Lions at Guard or is he strictly a Tackle?
By the way, best of luck to the Jags in their drive to the playoffs. I am especially impressed with the instant overhaul of the wide receiver corps that was pulled off. I hope the Lions management is watching and learns how it is done.

Mo's seen most of his action at guard the last few years
Though he’s also a capable RT.

Mo was released to FA a few years back
and nothing happened, so he resigned with the jaguars. He has had moments of earning a starting job and then falling again.
He is mainly a guard butwe haven’t seen him play recently so we can’t speak to why he was let go. Our players miss him a lot.

A Guard is what we really need here in Detroit.
He might even get a shot at Right Tackle if our second year man continues to struggle.
Thanks for the feedback.

Maurice Jones Drew is The Best RB in the AFC--Please Disagree with me
I think
if healthy, he will greatly improve your OL situation. I really mean that too. Personally I don’t know why you guys drafted Gosder. He looked like a bust to me before the draft. Luckily for you guys, Shack Harris is actually pretty good at drafting offensive linemen.
Another thing you get by signing Mo Williams is a player that he can play any position on the OL. He would struggle a little pass blocking as a OT, but with a little chipping he could even be pretty good there. He’s not super strong or quick, but he’s got a good sense of timing and he’s mobile. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised to see a couple more big runs from your RB’s.
Mo is a better Guard than Tackle
Good run blocker, average pass protector. Still, he should be able to help. By the way, I think every Jags fan needs to thank the Lions for giving us Gerald Alexander. I know he was hurt in Detroit, but the Jags really got a steal when they traded for him.
Average pass blocker
for a OT. Above average pass blocker for a guard though. Only gave up 1 sack in 07 when playing at right guard.
You're right
I thought he played much better when they switched him to guard. When he had injuries during the 07 season, he really wasn’t effective at tackle (see the playoff game in New England)
Thanks for your comments. I have linked this back to the Pride of Detroit site.
Some of our fans, U of M fans, are happy to have another Wolverine on the team. The Spartans of Michigan State? Not so much. LOL
I am a Canadian and cheer for both schools. I always wonder why they dislike each other more than any other out of state rival. Is that how it is in Florida too?
You should see how it is
over here in Los Angeles, with 2 big Universities in the same city and within minutes of each other.
yeah i noticed
I guess it allowed the Jags to cut him without paying him a lot of money and without losing him to another team; and now we have an extra roster spot.
