An open letter to Gerald Sensabaugh

Sensabaugh_medium

Dear Gerald,

I'm writing you today because, for the third year in a row, you were arrested for the third time for a vehicle related incident in your home town of Kingsport Tennessee.  Now, I wonder if the incident has something to do with the fact that you're driving around in a Bentley in a town that probably dosen't have many owners of that particular model, but I could be wrong.  Anyhow, I digress.

My point for wriitng you is to say that I'm deeply sorry that you will not be on the 2009 Jacksonville Jaguars.  Your 2008 campaign was one of the few bright spots on an otherwise dismal season with our defense.  You were certainly the only player that seemed to play with any fire last December.  Unfortunatly for the Jaguars, your motivation for a pay check combined with your arrest and connection to firearms will more than likely mean that you are sent to the free agency market.  You'll strap on another helmet and make plays for another team.

It disappoints me greatly that the town of Kingsport Tennessee has such an obsession with pulling you over, considering that there's no way the police department don't realize that it's you when they stop your car.  It dsappoints me that after all the gun related arrests, that you'd drive around with three weapons in your car.  It also disappoints me that this will continue the Jaguars reputation as "Cincy South".

In closing, I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed.  I wanted you to stay in Jacksonville, this event changes my mind to an extent.  If Fred Taylor can't renegotiate to stay in town, I don't see spending big money on you as an idea on Gene Smith's desk.

Good luck in free agency, may you go to a high paying NFC team that never plays the Jaguars.

-Chris

We have a "good" week so far isn't we?

Oh, well I agree with this arrest, and the Jaguars new philosophy, that character counts too, he will not returning ’09. The problem is oui secondary is not in the state to let a guy with his qualities go, but with this arrest, I will be stunned a little bit if he will be a Jag in ’09!
Sad…

I hate that the reason he was pulled over at all was

“Oh, that’s weird, a Bentley. Let me see what dirt I can dig up.”

Another Jaguar to miss next year. Sigh.

Cut him. Period. No waffling (mmm.. waffles) or being wishy washy… or whatever… If this is a new regime in Jaguars history, then let this entire next season set the precedents of being an outstanding team on the field AND off… 3 strikes and you stay? What does that tell the team? OK. i’ll shut up now. My external rant is over, although the internal rant continues… Stay tuned.

I'm from Kingsport

so I can speak from personal knowledge as to the dynamics of the authorities. While it might not be as small as West Canaan on “Varsity Blues”, it is a town where many people know each other and football and sports are very, very important. The Sensabaugh family has produced some very talented athletes(Cody Sensabaugh was the star this past year for powerhouse Kingsport Dobyns-Bennett). As such, he and his whole family are kind of revered by the locals. I think that keeps him in good stead when he comes home and plays “let’s see how many laws I can break”.

That said, it doesn’t surprise me that he’s been stopped by the Kingsport Police. About 13 years ago, when I was in high school, an officer stopped me on the road by school to let the school buses pull out onto the road, then he walked out of the road, so I drove on. About a minute after I got home, there was a knock on the door. To my surprise and dismay, it was the same cop. He said he stopped me for going over the speed limit but I drove on (as the cop made no indication he wanted me to pull over… just stop in the road). Being a new driver in a new car, I was driving as carefully as I could… I couldn’t have been going more than 2 mph over the speed limit. Nonetheless, he took my information and said he would be contacting my parents (!!!). No call ever came, no ticket was ever written, and my father called and gave them the Nth degree for harassing me. Really, they don’t have much else to do in Kingsport.

Cannons... fire them.

Man

I had really began to root for Gerald. Other than Rasean, he was easily the best defensive player on the team last year. But now it seems like he will not be given a new contract next year, and as a result another position on our team has became a big need. I feel sorry for him in a way as it sounds like the cops had no right to pull him over. Bye Gerald, we developed you and made you a great player, but now another team will get great plays from you next year.

I remember Fred's final interview on Pete Prisco

He said if we cut too many more players we would have trouble winning 5 games.

We need to expect not a rebuilding year, but a rebuilding period similar to what Tennessee just went through.

I can’t say this nicely, he’s an idiot for putting himself in that position. Ten days before he is going to collect the single biggest amount of money in his life and he just blew it all because of stupidity. I can’t sugar coat it that’s what it is, not thinking it through.

Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Fred Taylor. Sounds about right.

That was my original thought as well

Weak move Sensabaugh...

I bet we’ll trade Big John for picks on draft day and trade back for additional picks… Anyone else feel the same way?

You’ve been reading Jagnation haven’t you?

Si Senor...

I like that analysis (I was playing around with it in my head before I read it though). The article solidified my posting gumption ha.

Well I figured Spice wouldn’t make it through camp. Big John however is different bag all together.

Why ohhh... why?

"But maybe his luck was actually pretty good on Friday the 13th. This time around, Sensabaugh also had a gun in the car. Actually, he had three of them — a Bersa .380-cal. pistol, an AK-47, and a Glock .22-cal. handgun. "

Why do you need all this?

by Nikola R on Feb 18, 2009 5:27 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

In all fairness..

It was probably not an AK-47. Those are very illegal and send you straight to the federal prison system. It was more than likely an SKS, something that’s very common and looks like an AK, but does not blast rounds like it.

I hate bad reporting. Gerald is still dumb, but call a semi-automatic rifle what it is.

Aren't all automatic weapons legal now?

I thought the ban on assault weapons expired a while ago.

What is going through this guys head?????

Well

since Sensy will gone let’s save the roster spot and let MJD play SS too.
In all seriousness though MJD would be a Bob Sanders type of hitter. When MJD was UCLA whenever the QB would throw a pick it was said that MJD would lay the biggest hit of anyone on the team including the defense.

just in case you don’t know me well enough, I’m not serious about actually making him play there.

This letter is a waste...

Should have been one to JDR. You could open it like this: Dear Jack, I can call you Jack right? Okay Jack please get your crap together or leave. You have had 6 years to turn things around in Jacksonville and the only accomplishment you have to your name is one playoff win in the wildcard round amid the dismal 0 division titles.

Any….Sensy was decent but not great. Where was he the beginning part of the season?

by Slvrgun on Feb 19, 2009 4:22 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Hi and welcome to Big Cat Country

As you get your bearings, I might direct you to this post I wrote at the end of the season.

As for Sensy, he did not start until the fourth game of the season due to the Jaguars not yet realizing that Drayton Florence was garbage. In that game he made 11 tackles and finished the year with 70 tackles and 4 interceptions, only actually one of which came in December (against Green Bay). I might also remind you of the 12-4 year and the 11-5 year, both of which would’ve been good enough to win a lot of divisions that didn’t have regular-season Peyton Manning. Or how about the exceptionally close game against the unstoppable Patriots while having zero pass rush. But no, you’re right. It’s always the coach’s fault. He told Sensy to go get arrested, he personally tore Manuwai’s ACL, he performed the surgery on Jerry Porter himself. Yep.

2nd Place Isn't good enough.

You’re right the coach isn’t always the sole reason why a team loses but he can be one of the factors. Under Jack the Jaguars have only seen average to moderate success. If you enjoy mediocrity go ahead but mark my words Jack will be gone soon.

by Slvrgun on Feb 19, 2009 9:11 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Don't Blame Jack

Most of the time, I will stick up for Jack, and this time is no different. Please don’t insult the coach as one of the main reasons for this down season was a decimated o-line that really struggled to pass block, and at times run block. Another was poor free agent spending, bringing in two players who were only in it for themselves.

Over the past few years the Jaguars have made improvements over the early 2000s. While 5-11 was definitely not desirable, especially when the Jaguars had such high hopes going into the season, it still is not horrible. Some teams have not won more than 5-6 games for the past 5 years, so after one bad season, you can’t blame JDR.

Simple Vic-ism's

Players not plays

Players, Front Office, Coaching and Strategy, Talent, Execution.

by Slvrgun on Feb 19, 2009 9:14 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

And of those

Coaching and strategy are just fine. Under Jack, the Jaguars have had average to moderate talent (first rebuilding from salary cap hell and then a stunningly fast breakdown due to injuries and age) and poor front office decisions. If you’re going to broaden your scope enough to see all of those things, surely you’d see that coaching is not the problem here.

by MoveThoseChains on Feb 19, 2009 10:45 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Slvrgun has a legitimate arguement

but I still blame the bad back office moves as the main reason for last season. Its a case of too many bad decisions catching up with us. Jack is not the best coach out there but he has had some success with some pretty subpar talent. If Gene does it right then this is Jack’s chance to shine or fail.
