What about this guy?
A lot of the emails and answers on Vic's blog lately have been dealing with the idea of drafting a RB to replace Freddy T as MJD's backup. Some fans dont think that MoJo can handle being an every-down back. While I think that MJD will be used much like Brian Westbrook, Matt Forte and Reggie Bush and dominate in such a role, I do think that he will need some help carrying the ball in true pounding-the-ball fashion. I think Gregg Jones will be a very good FB, but not necessarily the guy we need to spell MJD.
What about Chauncey Washington??? Why is everyone talking about drafting a RB when we just did last year (and a pretty darn good one too!)?
What do you guys think/know about Washington's NFL abilities? He only got a hand-ful of carries last year (less than 10), but in his senior year at USC he was beast (averaging over 5 ypc and 10 TDs). I know he has somewhat of an injury history, but he is now 2 years removed from his last injury. Do you guys think he could be our guy?
I'd hate to waste a draft pick on another RB when we already have some good ones and have other needs to address.
However, if we could land Moreno with the 8th pick, I'd be THRILLED! I just don't want us to draft a Donald Brown type when we have bigger needs (and yes, I am a BAP kind of guy, but shouldn't your draft board at least lean towards your glaring holes?) than RB at the moment.

I was unimpressed with Chauncey this season
Maybe I’ve grown used to great plays out of MJD and Fred, but Washington just doesn’t seem to have any breakout qualities. He’s not super fast, he can’t run people over, he doesn’t have great moves. He just seems to be a backup for life kind of guy.
but he only had
less than 10 carries last season. Unless you are talking about training camp/pre-season stuff. I know he doesnt have the moves, but I didn’t know about his speed. It was just a thought I had that I thought I’d throw out to you guys.

i agree
special teams, and back up role for emergancies, i dont see him being talented enough to spit carries wtih MJD, and also i dont think we should draft another RB. MJD and gregg jones is all we need, dont forget jones used to carry the ball in college to
Brown Kid
Woah
Donald Brown has what it takes to be a starter in this league. He would be a great compliment to MJD too. I actually think he’s the second back on my board, even above Wells.
When it comes to Washington, I didn’t like him coming out of college, because of his stiff hips. But he’s grown on me. In open space he’s pretty good. I had a hard time trying to figure out why he wasn’t seeing the field much even after Jones and Taylor went down. Then I saw it in the Colts game late in the year. He’s a little hesitant in the back field, like as if doesn’t have good vision. The good thing with that weakness is that its one you can fix or atleast improve. But he may not be ready yet. We’ll see. As of right now I’d feel a little more comfortable with someone else as MJD’s “tandem.”

So, I saw Donald Brown several times…I just wasnt sold on him. He reminded me a lot of Kevin Smith from UCF…maybe it’s just me though…

I graduated from USF in 2007 too. Now I'm at Nova Southeastern in Davie for my doctorate.
I lived by Citrus Park.
What’s your opinion of Jon Gruden as a citizen of Tampa? I love the guy but I know alot of people feel the exact opposite.

The End Is Nigh...
I've always liked him
I think he is a good football coach, and I haven’t really heard anything to suggest he is a horrible person.
GOOO BULLS!!!

BAP
If you use BAP, it shouldn’t matter whether we need a running back or not. If a running back is the highest player on your board, take him. I can see this becoming more likely in the second round, as some good running backs should be there in the early second.
I don’t think Washington is ready to be a complement to Jones-Drew just yet. During the pre-season it seemed like he could never get more than 2-3 years per carry. He just isn’t all that explosive, and like Ewdtrey said, he probably doesn’t have great vision at this time. But he could become better with work.
If you wanted a true change of pace back from Jones-Drew, you would want a speedy, smaller back, since Jones Drew is kind of a power back in himself, despite his size. Vic actually said something about this earlier in the week, and he said he liked someone like LaShaun McCoy. After Jones-Drew/Greg Jones has pounded the defense, it would be nice to have a speedy back to run by all the tired, worn out defenders.
Too be blunt
Chauncy Washington is nobody going nowhere. Why he has a spot on this team baffles me.

He May Not
After training camp. I don’t see him winning a roster spot again, especially if we draft a running back.

Hey Harvey
since you’re really high on this guy, why don’t you write a report for us? I’d be interested to get some info on the guy and why it is that you love him so much
