Mock me (Not literally plz) :)
So I volunteered to present the Jaguars pick in the Stampedeblue.com mockdraft. If anyone would like to present a list of needs/players that jax will/might draft then please help.
I know the Jacksonville just release Matt Jones and I've seen alot of mocks where you take an offensive linemen. Do you see a wide receiver dropping to you or could you reach for one?
I hope you draft better than last year IRL :)
Please help

Really just take the best guy on the board
If someone good slips then take them. I’m sure the Jaguars will not be drafting for a specific position so take the best guy available whoever you evaluate that to be. I’m a bit of a Raji fan myself, but others here aren’t.
use this as a reference
i agree with SoCal, heres a board to help you

Thanks for the memories Fred, the #1 back on my roster
Mel Kiper
must be checking my BCC posts lol. Still think that if we don’t trade the 8th pick, and Raji’s gone, Sanchez will be the guy.
I really wouldn't like that
There are more than 8 guys I like more than Sanchez, so there’s no way he’s the BAP at 8 in my opinion. In addition, a QB in the first round is only going to divide the fans and the locker room when this team has a bad year, even though we all expect them to.
I'm not sure
that right now, Sanchez isn’t the BAP at 8. He would be projected to be the number one QB in college if he decided to remain at USC, an obvious Heisman Candidate, and potential number one draft pick in 2010. I also think the team and fans would accept the fact that Sanchez is our QB for the future, not necessarily the present.
He’s a primetime performer. He had a huge game in the 2009 Rose Bowl against Penn State: He became just the third QB to pass for over 400 yds in a Rose Bowl, and he set a Rose Bowl record for completion percentage at 80%.
I agree that we don’t need QB right now, but circumstances can change quickly given injuries, etc. Ideally, I would like us to draft Raji, or trade down for more picks. BUT, if we remain at number 8, I think Sanchez is a prime candidate. I would hate to pass on him just because we thought we didn’t need him for 2009-10.
Where you been?
Missed you around here.

I agree
I didn’t at first, but I’m coming around. We do need a draft and develop guy. I just wonder for how long a first round guy like Sanchez will be content riding the bench behind Garrard. How do you think he would handle that?

based on his nfl network interview today
he would handle it well, he was saying stuff like “yes sir and Mr. Eisen”
surreal to be teal
I think
Sanchez would handle it fine, and I think the fans and players would too. As a Junior he’s still young and raw, and I think at least 2 seasons of grooming on the bench is a reasonable expectation. A healthy quarterback competition isn’t such a bad thing, and knowing that our present is secure with Garrard while our future is secure with Sanchez would ideally allow us to concentrate on building a strong team around a high caliber QB. I think it’s also important to note that in 2 years, David Garrard will be 33 years old, the same age as Mark Brunell when he last suited up for the Jags. David may have more productive years in him than Brunell did at the time, but I prefer the option of a well-prepared QB ready to step in, to reaching for one in the draft and enduring 2-3 more years of rebuilding.
OL and DL are obvious priorities, but if we’re in the position at the 8th overall pick, and we can’t comfortably draft an offensive or defensive lineman under the BAP philosophy, I’d be disappointed to watch us pass on Sanchez. He’s a premium player at THE premium position, and we’re in a unique position to grab a potential number one draft pick with, hopefully, a lower price-tag.
The evidence of him being a premium position is.......what?
Quarterback is right up there with WR as positions that are likely to be first round busts. Everyone had even better things to say about Leinart, Young, and Cutler…and Harrington, Carr, etc, etc. They always seem like a great prospect…until they’re not. And then they’re your bust. No thanks. I’ll pass on the Sanchez koolaid.

premium *player...obviously the position is premium

well, i personally like him better than stafford
he does not do anything stupid with the added bonus of big plays in big games with a pro offense
stafford does some really stupid stuff, but he has an elite arm, played pro offense against SEC
surreal to be teal
Evidence of his being a premium player
comes from his Rose Bowl performance against Penn State. The fact that he’s just the third QB in history to pass for over 400 yards in the Rose Bowl and the fact that he has elite accuracy, evidenced by his 80% completion record in the Rose Bowl, says that he has elite potential. He also led a team that pundits believe was as good, if not better, than the National Champion Gators, but that’s another argument.
One thing I noticed that all of the QB’s you mentioned have in common is that, other than Leinart, they were all thrown into the starting position in their first year. Hopefully, Sanchez wouldn’t face that situation with the Jags. Who were the first round QB’s who weren’t busts? Peyton and Eli Manning, “Laserface” Phillip Rivers, Ben Roethlisberger, Carson Palmer (before injury), Donovan McNabb, Daunte Culpepper, Steve McNair, Troy Aikman, Jim Kelly, John Elway, Dan Marino, etc. You could even throw Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco in there if you like.
If you don’t like Sanchez, that’s ok, but I think there’s a pedigree of success at QB that warrants taking a guy like Sanchez who has high-caliber character and elite talent with the 8th overall pick. If we can’t comfortably draft an OL or DL as BAP, I think we must either take Sanchez as the BAP or trade down and acquire more picks.
I could name high receivers that worked out just fine too
But I can also name Jeff George, Akili Smith, Eric Crouch, Ryan Leaf, etc. My point is that there is a higher chance that your guy is going to be bust than if we’re talking about OTs. I also would be really cautious to base your evaluation of a guy like Sanchez solely on ONE game against an overmatched opponent from an inferior conference.
I still think he’s better than Stafford because of the accuracy. Accuracy is a must to be an NFL-caliber quarterback. I worry about Sanchez because all year it was the defense that carried USC, and Sanchez couldn’t do anything right in the loss against Oregon State, and he really hasn’t done anything aside from the Rose Bowl.

I Say
Take Josh Freeman and just develop him. He is a freak of nature athletically, and could be a Pro Bowler if he is put in the right situation, which is right here in J-Ville.
Thats Good For Another Jacksonville... First Down.
You are correct SoCal...
Car; you make a good point too. But NOW more than EVER we need a WR, be it a vet. through free agency or at the cost of 2 of our 1st 3 picks. Go Crabtree/ Maclin then OT Beatty @ #2 and Mossiqui with our third. (Draft Timmy T next year for our future QB)
Massaquoi
Seems like a sleeper to me. Scouting magazines have him going in the third or fourth round, but I think he has second round ability. If he is there in the third, take him. Massaquoi could be a slot receiver for years to come.
Thats Good For Another Jacksonville... First Down.
Sleeper indeed
but well enough under the radar to maybe slip to the Jags in the 3rd. I know that would be leaving us with 4th rd CBs, but we need to put points up too.
I Think
Grabbing a corner in the second is the way to go. Or OT in William Beatty.
Thats Good For Another Jacksonville... First Down.
i agree
i just still worry about our corner situation. Maybe we can get a second 2
surreal to be teal
If D.J. Moore or Alphonso Smith
somehow manage to make the miracle fall to the 2nd then I’d be really excited.
I'd much rather
have Alphonso Smith. Moore looks like a bust to me. A little too much hype because of his versatility.
If anyone is interested
I ended up taking Jeremy Macklin
Please, please draft a big Defensive Tackle. Please?
