Tony McDaniel Traded
Via Rotoworld:
Dolphins acquired DT Tony McDaniel from the Jaguars in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick.
He's been on the trade block for a month, and the Jags finally got someone to bite. McDaniel has the size at 6'7/310, but he's been an injury-prone mediocrity in three years as a pro. He could earn a role as a rotational tackle if he can stay healthy in 2009.
I knew it. I always thought he would go to a 3-4 team.

7th round?
I’m happy to hear the Jaguars got something for him, but I thought he might have a little more value than that.
On a side note, this is my 1000th SB Nation comment

On the plus side
we got him as a undrafted FA. That’s like getting something for nothing.

That's a lot of comments......
and you’ve only been on the site 2 weeks! JK… Actually, although I only post occasionally, I read the comments daily and yours are always sensible and insightful. As is most of the regular posters. Do you think this trade indicates the Jags are going to a 3-4?

Well McDaniel just left to a 3-4 team
So if the Jaguars really intended on making the switch wouldn’t they want McDaniels? This seems to be a 4-3 oriented move. And thanks for the compliments.

I thought we could get maybe 6th for but hey i will stick with the 7th. Tom Brady came out of the 7th round of the draft u never know when u find a Diamond in the Ruff.

You're Right About Diamonds
In the rough though. Willie Parker was un-drafted, as was James Harrison, Defensive Player of The Year.

Yeah
and the 7th round should be pretty loaded this year. We could easily find a future starting SS/C/WR.

This is why I love BCC...
I just checked Jagnation.com and Jaguars.com and neither have anything on the trade.

That's why I love it too... Our fans are more on top of things than pay-for-content sites, or Jags.com

ummm, 7th round is about as good as getting someone undrafted. Big deal, would rather of have depth at the DT position. What if it was the last pick in the 7th? Whats after the 7th round? nothing….Btw jaggernaut its on profootballtalk.com were most us get our bias news these days.

Depth?
Tony McDaniel didn’t give us depth. In fact I think he robbed us of depth because he was always hurt. If we can replace him with someone that can stay on the field we will have improvd our depth by getting rid of him. Not to mention he never did much on the field when he was playing.

I agree the guy was a cancer of sorts, but do you think a 7th round DT would be any better? All I’m saying its probably the least important trade I’ve ever heard of.

A LATE seventh round pick at safety ended up being a starter and had a HUGE impact on his squad...
somebody help me out with his name…

something is better than nothing....
It’s becoming like baseball, were everthing is measured on a number assigned to it. 7th round could be a pick or a deal?

don't they always boast...
that Brady was a 7?

CHRIS HORTON... pick number 249 last year.
Day one starter and won defensive rookie of the month last year at one time…
Could Nate Ness be that guy?

Sorry
I missed the starting part. All I saw was the huge impact part and immediately Nkang came to mind.

A 7th round pick
is basically like getting your pick of the undrafted guys. There will be undrafted guys that receive calls from multiple teams wanting them to come to their camps. The 7th round pick takes away the competition for a guy you want.

This will be
the biggest and most important draft in a long time( for all teams). So as i see it anything extra will be nothing but a bonus. Sure a 6th rounder would’ve been nice, but lets’s put some faith in Gene and see what he comes up with.
Everybody knows when he's coming to town
They're locking the doors
And they don't make a sound
People want him dead but he won't die yet
First he's got to live
With all the things that he did

Heres a list of the jags 7th rounders in the last 3 years…alls not so bad. By the way what happened to john broussard?
2006
James Wyche DE (not sure but is he still on the team?)
Dee Webb DB
2007
John Broussard WR
Chad Nkang LB
Andrew Carnahan OT
Surprisingly I believe chad and andrew are still on the team.
2008
Chauncey Washington RB
Still on team.
So hey I proved myself wrong, there not special or anything but it’s better then releasing someone i guess….cough matt jones

Last I heard
Broussard is with Chicago. Personally I wouldn’t mind having him back.
Andrew is not on the team anymore. I think the Chiefs stole him when he was on our practice squad.
Wyche was just resigned for the vet min about a week ago.

Actually, Nkang is a special teams dynamo....
well worth a 7th round pick and the jury is still out on Washington and I think he’ll get his chances this year.
by Jaggernaut on Mar 19, 2009 9:08 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Yeah
Nkang turned into a special teams warrior.

yah nkang is a solid player
I had a friend who went to Elon (Chad’s college) and he kept telling me when the Jags drafted Chad that he would be a solid player and it looks like he was right

Fearlessness
Is what makes him a good special teamer. Him and Montell Owens both have it. If you had twenty players like the two of them, you would be in the Super Bowl every year.

any idea which 7th rounder?
I know its not that big of a deal cause we are talking about the 7th round, but Miami has three 7th round picks…the 5th, 23rd, and 28th of the 7th round.

it could be packaged, i doubt it but maybe he trades up on day 2. its better than nothing
gene has a plan. we have no reason to worry

Wow!
Good, an extra draft pick. Perfect! A wish the best to Tony at the Dolphins, this was a nice move, one more pick to fill our gaps!
Well done, Gene!

CHRIS HORTON Pick number 249. Defensive rookie of the month in september or October... can't recall which.. but had an immediate impact.
hristopher Horton (Washington Redskins) – Pick No. 249
Scouting Report: “Experienced, tough, in-the-box safety who fills hard. The biggest knock on him is that he’s one dimensional because he has too many limitations in coverage.”
This rookie out of UCLA has been a ball-hawk through Washington’s first seven games, helping them compete in the toughest division in football. The 6’1" 211-pound safety has recorded three interceptions so far, while piling up 37 tackles. In Week 2, he picked off Drew Brees twice, who is arguably the NFL’s best quarterback this season.
