Jaguars situtation in my opion

As of right now the Jaguars are looking better and here is why. Oline is better due to our new left tackle Tra Thomas and our 2 guards Maurice Williams and Vince Manuwai return to 2007 form we have a serviceable oline add 1 or 2 draft picks preferably a tackle for the future and a center and we should be all right for a while. TIGHT ENDS we are set there for the time being with what we have. Receivers we need to address this in the draft and undrafted free agents QB we need to keep Lemon 1 more year as a back up and draft a replacement next year when there will be a slew of good qbs to draft Running back no need there Dline We need to get a DT to pair with big John and see how are 2 DE"s from last year improve Line backers are good and we have some depth Secondary We need to change Rashean Mathis to safety and Reggie Nelson to CB put Brian Williams at cb and use Sean Considine at safety our weak link would be Williams At this time our draft should go like this 2 oline men 2 wide receivers 1 running back 2 defensive backs That is my take what do you think

Reggie Nelson...

is too light for corner. This was evident last year when he was having problems with the open field tackle. Corner is a cover outside linebacker. Quick, but able to hit hard.

I do like

the Jags run game this year. Agree about QB… this year or next?

by Jaghomer on Mar 20, 2009 8:05 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Reggie looked like a space goat alot of times this year in coverage… I’ve met him in person and he is NOT a very big guy… The problem with Rashean is that he is a “zone” corner not a “man” this would explain why he gets beat alot one on one… I personally think we need a DB asap in this draft that can be a “man” CB…

Macho Harris ran a nice 40 time yesterday… impressed alot of scouts…

I was pretty hot on Jenkins,

but #8 is way too high and now his poor combine is a little bit worrisome.

by Jaghomer on Mar 20, 2009 10:31 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree… I think Vontae is the best Corner in this draft… hands down…

I think Scott Starks is that "man" Cb.......

As long as injuries go away…….

It is kind of the same deal with Mike Walker…. he is the “#1” Wr as long as injuries leave him alone

by jaxjags.. on Mar 20, 2009 12:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

No

Scott Starks isn’t as physical as you want a man-man corner to be. However, it sounds like we are going back to our basic cover two scheme and getting away from that 46 defense Gregg Williams installed.

Thats Good For Another Jacksonville... First Down.

by Bestjagfan on Mar 20, 2009 6:08 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Starks

is small, but he’s physical in coverage.

by Ewdtrey on Mar 20, 2009 7:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Doesn't Matter

If he wants to be physical. The Chihuahua can want to tear up the Rottweiler, but if he doesn’t have the size it’s not going to happen.

Keep Scott Starks at nickel corner, he is elite there.

He really is kind of the only....

Cb with enough speed, quickness and ability in our roster to be a “Man” Cb……

You know, really the best thing would be to acquire a “man” Cb….. but if your are going to develop one from the draft;….. i think it would be best to have Starks in there……

by jaxjags.. on Mar 21, 2009 12:45 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Charles Woodson And Al Harris

Are two good examples of good man corners. They have speed, quickness, and great instincts, but also have the size to be physical enough in coverage. If Resean Mathis could be more physical, he could be a great man corner in my opinion.

Thats Good For Another Jacksonville... First Down.

You do know

that if Nelson played corner that he would be bigger than 80 percent of CB’s?

by Ewdtrey on Mar 20, 2009 7:10 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Good postings here...

I like the new team’s spirit. The ego really has been pretty well trimmed out. And good point about Scott Starks; he has great potential, hopefully he can stay healthy.

Also, drafting a CB is not such a bad idea. Outside of the top pick (Davis), are there any good CB’s that might be available in later rounds?

Unfortunately, the truth only comes out game-by-game.

There are a couple that fit in well at the top of the second round

Alphonso Smith and DJ Moore. While you’re on the topic of DBs Patrick Chung could be there too in the 2nd. I’d be really happy with any one of the three out of the second, although I know Ewdtrey isn’t a big Moore fan.

by SoCalStites on Mar 20, 2009 3:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Don’t forget Macho Harris…

Height Weight Arm Length Hand length 40

Victor “Macho” Harris Virginia Tech 5’11 1/4 198 31 3/4" 8 7/8" 4.63

D.J. Moore Vanderbilt 5’8 7/8 192 30 1/2" 8 1/2" 4.53

Alphonso Smith Wake Forest 5’9 193 31 1/2" 9 3/4" 4.53

I'm not a big fan of Macho

If he was taken with the 39th overall I think it would be a reach for the value he actually gives. I’d be happy with Alphonso Smith, DJ Moore, and Patrick Chung because they offer 1st round value and one of them would have to slip for the Jaguars to get them.

I’d love to have Chung… Hard Hitting Safety…

And he's good

in man to man. Crucial for playing the Colts in their 4 wide. We need someone that can cover Dallas Clark and Owen Daniels.

Macho's Pro Day

40 Yrd Dash: 4.46
20 Yrd Dash: 2.56
10 Yrd Dash: 1.51 (Good number)
Short Shuttle 3.98 (Second best at combine)
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 13
Vertical Jump: 34
Broad Jump: 10’01"
This is about as good as anyone other than Butler.

by Ewdtrey on Mar 20, 2009 7:17 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Now there's a guy

you’d hope would fall to the 39th overall pick, Darius Butler.

Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Fred Taylor. Sounds about right.

by JvilleJag2 on Mar 20, 2009 9:51 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I would so take

Butler. I just don’t think he will get there. If he is, he will be our pick.

by Ewdtrey on Mar 21, 2009 12:00 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think

we are good at OG, RT, FB, TE, Kicker, KR, PR, NB, DE. We could use more depth at LT, LB, RB, DT, CB, S, WR. We need starters at SS, LCB, DT, WR. Starters for the near future(Ok for 09) at LT, DT, CB, C.
Wow! With 2 really good drafts we could be set for a while.

by Ewdtrey on Mar 21, 2009 12:24 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

No we aren't.

The TEs suck including Mardropsies Lewis.

Tony Pashos is horrible.

We need depth at OG.

Scobee is inconsistent.

We have no legit KR. MJD doesn’t really want to do it and Witherspoon makes really dumb mistakes.

Scott Starks isn’t all that great.

DE could still use more depth.

We have no real punt returner. Northcutt sucks and Witherspoon again makes dumb mistakes.

We will need more than 2 drafts to be “set” if that’s even possible.

by Slvrgun on Mar 21, 2009 12:29 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I do have to agree with you on that Pashos statement

He was a hugging machine last year……..

But i think Uche is going to be a great backup at OG……..

by jaxjags.. on Mar 21, 2009 12:49 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

But...

Pashos was really good the year prior.

I always hear these OTs talk about how they protect the QB like their mother and stuff like that. This last season David Garrard was hit almost every time he dropped back to pass. Maybe Pashos was trying to protect him from being hit more than he already was and that once the line is reconstructed he’ll do better.

by SoCalStites on Mar 21, 2009 4:05 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Our TE's don't suck... Scobee is clutch, Witherspoon was a rook last year and was a track star first...

Depth is a luxury, not a necessity.. Uche Nwari showed that he can play guard and do so well. We have our Center. Pashos is a run focused RT, he does struggle against the pass though. DE doesn’t need depth, DT does. Starks will have alot to prove to show he’s fully recovered from his season ending injury.

Don’t be so pessimistic, bro, and don’t tell me you’re a realist either. You definitely are a pessimist…
I will rescind your pessimist status if you can tell me ONE positive thing about the Jags.

Dude?

Your calling out Scobee? Now I know your super critical! Pashos can handle the run game. And the return game isn’t bad. No… ewdtrey is on with his need for starters. Two old cliches keep ringing in my head about football. 1.) QB or big man at top 10 pick and 2.) Offenses can win games, but defenses win superbowls! Man I would like to see the return of a “bad ass” defense. I don’t even mind losing the close ones, just as long as the Jags can compete. Last year just drained me.

by Jaghomer on Mar 21, 2009 9:54 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He makes the long ones and muffs the short ones. Have you forgot about 2008?

If your metric for great is average then so be it but I think you are overrating the Jaguars. We have a bunch of average guys on STs, Offense and Defense. Besides Mathis and MJD there really aren’t any star talents on this team.

by Slvrgun on Mar 21, 2009 1:19 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yea Will James, definitely the best corner in the game. I heard we resigned him, why the hell would we do that?

by cliff1982 on Mar 21, 2009 4:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

And one of his

“misses” was actually a block through no fault of his own.

by Ewdtrey on Mar 22, 2009 2:43 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Referring to the defense

We need to get a Great run stuffer. Something like Ron Brace. With Henderson and Brace we can back to making offenses one dimensional. We can focus the back 7 on stopping the pass or for blitzing the QB.
If we can stop the run, our chances for getting off the field on 3rd down increase a lot. Not to mention it shortens opposing offense’s drives.

not

if our cb’s play soft, like this year!

Everybody knows when he's coming to town
They're locking the doors
And they don't make a sound
People want him dead but he won't die yet
First he's got to live
With all the things that he did

by thatdamnLovett on Mar 21, 2009 8:48 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The CBs played as a consequence of the D Line

When the line was unable to do anything the quarterback would have all day to pass. When teams can run they force teams to respect their run and open up the passing game more. Everything is affected by the line.

i wasnt

placing blame on them by labeling them “soft”, i was just saying be tougher, get in the wr’s faces, make’em fight those 1st 5 yards off their route…. that sort of thing.

The Jags are building...

Frankly, I’m more excited this year than last year. I’m hoping I witness an evolution of a superbowl team!

by Jaghomer on Mar 21, 2009 4:31 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Age has brought me maturity,

maturity has brought me patience. I don’t need it right now. But I still would like to see a competitive defense.
