George Wrighster news
I'm not sure who uses twitter around here, but if you do, you can follow George Wrighster. He also has a blog at tightend.blogspot.com. In any case, I asked him if he thought he would be a Jag next year. He wrote me back saying that he wouldn't be in the teal and gold next season. It should all be worked out in the next two weeks, but he'll be traded.
I'm sad to see this. I really like him, and I think he shows great effort and is a great guy. I'll be sad to see him go, but it will be interesting to see which team and what picks/players the Jags will be getting.

why would we just release him?
He’s too good to just let walk.

Makes over a million a year, has been injured, and we have 3 capable TE's now.

Money for performance
If we haven’t picked up on that part of Gene yet, we should. No one is paid to “get better”.
I think I smell a new post article coming.

After thinking about it
I agree with both of you. Wrighster has been hurt alot, however, I do see talent in the guy. Maybe it’s a little sentimental, I don’t know. I should never be a GM, because I’d never want to get rid of anyone….except Jerry Porter and Drayton Florence……oh wait…and Shack.

Chris Brown
an UDFA last now with the Dolphins I believe, I thought could have taken Wrisghster’s role. Brown was remarkably athletic.
I also wonder if Charles “The last paerson I wanna meet in a dark alley” Davis will push for a roster spot.

Charles Davis
Should be able to take Angulo’s spot. Angulo is too slow, and isn’t the best pass catcher. And he’s not good enough of a blocker to keep around just for blocking.

I'm not overly
confident about what will happen. To be honest I was kind of suprised Davis didn’t beat out Angulo last year. Although I’m kinda glad it happened the way it did, because Angulo is at least the second best blocker of all the TE’s.
by Ewdtrey on Mar 25, 2009 8:26 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Agreed
But he is not an impact blocker. If Davis shows better or even equal ability to block, he should be able to easily beat out Angulo, since Davis has more speed, and better catching ability. And the way the Jags throw to their tight ends, I think it is even more important for the guys to be athletic.
Estandia should stick around, although he is not the best blocker, he is reliable in the passing game.

I remember Estandia catches that dropped my mouth open
That guy can get up and get the ball. If David ever learns to find him, look out.

Exactly
David has a bad habit of locking onto receivers. For the first 13 games, it was Matt Jones. For the two after that it was Northcutt, and for the finale it was Williams. Such as the Colts on Thursday night. 12 seconds left, second to last play of the game. He was locked on to Williams, waited for him to get open, and then had to jerk his throw up to avoid Antwan Bethea. He had Marcedes Lewis(I think) wide open. Instead, David overthrows Williams and the next play he is sacked, game over…
I also noticed something else in those last games. Was it just me or did he seem to really force balls to Williams. It was almost like he knew Williams wouldn’t be back and Garrard wanted him to have good final games. Versus the Colts and the Ravens, he threw some passes to Reggie Williams that Todd Bouman would have known not to throw.

Don't
forget, Estandia is very good on special teams.

That Too
I heard an interview of him. He was asked what his favorite thing to do in a game, whether it be run blocking, pass blocking, catching the ball. His answer: Kick off coverage. Our special teams should be stacked next year.

Seriously
if Russ Purnell can’t do well with all these guys he shouldn’t be coaching special teams.

Whoa
for a second I thought you were talking about the Arizona Wildcats basketball coach, Russ Pennell, and I was really confused as to what you were talking about.

I'm A Little
Puzzled as to why the Jags would bring in Purnell. His special teams units have ranked last in the league in a lot of categories over the past few years. I still remember Devin Hester returning the opening kick in the Super Bowl against his squad a few years back. I know he’s Devin Hester but seriously, the opening kickoff in the Super Bowl?

Supposedly
he hasn’t had a lot to work with because all of the Colts money went to the star players like Manning, not leaving much for special teams.
I’m not completely sure I buy it, but I’ll give him a chance.

Thats The Thing Though
Unless its someone like Josh Cribbs or Montell Owens, you don’t usually get someone just to play special teams. Most ST coaches borrow backups from around the roster, so I’ll give the guy a chance, but I can’t shake that feeling that we will have a wasted unit.

4th?
I really think Gene can swing a 4th rounder. Wrighster’s an athletic guy. We got a 3rd and a 5th for Stroud right? A 4th isn’t unfeasible. Anyway, I gotta love the draft picks. Let’s just not blow ’em come draft day.
by Blair72 on Mar 24, 2009 5:06 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Honestly.
I’d be surprised if they get anything more than a seventh round pick for an oft-injured tight end. I’ll be glad whatever the Jags get for him.
Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Fred Taylor. Sounds about right.

Let him go… he’s injury prone and is dead weight on our roster… Out with the old, in with the new…

If The Jags Can
Find a trade partner. Lets not forget that he is going to be released anyway. A team could just wait and let Wrightster fall to them. But if The Jags do trade him, I’d be very happy with a 5th. I think thats about all your going to get for him.

list the possibilities...
I know the Atlanta Falcons are in Desperate need of a tight end. If there are a couple of teams maybe he will be dealt.

Possibilities
Like you said, the Falcons are in great need of a tight end, especially one that can catch, and Wrightster does that pretty well. Another team could be the Browns. They just lost Kellen Winslow, and I’m sure they don’t trust Steve Heiden to be the main guy. The Browns could be a real possibility because they have a lot of holes to fill, and I doubt they want to waste a draft pick on an unproven tight end, when they can get an assured O.K. one.

The real stupid thing was that
this is from ESPN’s Paul Kuharsky:
From an e-mail from tight end George Wrighster: “I found out the Jaguars will make a move on me before the start of offseason program on April 6th. Either trade or release.”
Here goes the trade…Or i hope at least there are teams who not read everything, and will miss this…

exactly why I didn't post it on the front page... I tried every possible search criteria and couldn't find your article.
So if we don’t put it up as a fanpost or a comment, it may go unnoticed… although I highly doubt that. I think the damage is done.

Eh.
If NFL Teams are finding out from BCC that a player will be released or traded, it’s a sad day of affairs. I don’t think that GW has much in trade value to begin with.

LOL!
Everybody knows when he's coming to town
They're locking the doors
And they don't make a sound
People want him dead but he won't die yet
First he's got to live
With all the things that he did

Who's talking BCC? I talkin' Google, Chris
Do I think Team’s get Jags info here or any info from SBN… No Way!
Do I think that teams google players’ names for info… Of course I do. In fact, I think it would be silly to assume otherwise.
Sure they have their own contacts, but rest assured, google is ALWAYS used, and don’t forget, we’re featured on Google News…
