Better Know a Draft Prospect: BYU Receiver Austin Collie
After the release of Jerry Porter and Matt Jones, coupled with the choice to not re-sign Reggie Williams, the Jaguars are in desperate need of some new receivers. I have said many times that the receiver position is very deep in this year's draft, and BYU receiver Austin Collie is a testament to the depth.
With the amount of high profile receivers, such as Crabtree, Harvin, and Maclin. Collie has slipped under the radar and looks to be a 5th or 6th round prospect.

Video Killed the Scouting Report:
Austin Collie by the Numbers
| At a Glance | |
|---|---|
| Position 1: Wide Receiver | Height: 6'1" |
| Position 2: Returner | Weight: 200 |
| Class: Junior | Age: 24 |
| Projected Round: 4th-6th | 40 Time: 4.55 |
| 225 lbs. Bench Reps: 17 | Vertical Jump: 34" |
Something that instantly catches the eye is his age. A 24 year old Junior? Well, like most BYU Cougars, he's a member of the Church of Latter-day Saints. As a result, after his freshman season at BYU he went on his LDS mission before finally returning for his sophomore season. Most players don't leave early for the draft only to get drafted in the later rounds. However, with his age considerably higher than the other draft prospects, he decided to get into the NFL as soon as possible
What the Experts Think
Strengths
FFToolBox: A sharp, precise route runner who knows how to get open. Runs faster in games than his 40 time depicts. Has quick feet and reliable hands. He lacks size, but doesn't get knocked off his route.
CDSDraft: Can run the out and comeback patterns with skill. Always gets separation and makes the catch. Faced big time double coverage and teams trying to take him away and he still produced. If he runs well he could get into the top 2 or 3 rounds.
BYU.Scout: Hands and concentration. Route-running skills. Toughness.
FFToolBox: He's a weak blocker and runs upright. College stats inflated by a pass happy offense. Lacks explosiveness and burst of the line.
CDSDraft: May not have the breakaway speed you'd like. Doesn't really come over the middle in the BYU offense the way he will need to in the pros. Not a lot of negatives with this kid. Over-aged due to his Mormon mission. (24 years old)
BYU.Scout: Downfield threat. Speed.
Why Austin Collie Should Be a Jaguar:
Gene Smith is on mission to cleanse the character of the Jaguars, and if character is what he's looking for, Collie is the way to go. I'd be willing to bet that the guy never uses any inappropriate language, let alone illegal substances. He's an intriguing prospect with a lot of upside who could be a legitimate threat for the Jaguars. He'll never be a #1 receiver, but that doesn't mean he wont make an impact.

Socal, nice work as always, bro!
I’ve never even heard of this cat until now… He really has slipped under the radar… Great find, Mon Frere.

My pleasure
A good friend of mine is a student at BYU and talks to me all the time about his Cougars. I’ve seen a few games as a result and Collie always struck me as impressive. Thanks for the compliments
The guy's got a great set of hands on him... He really can catch well...

Yeah that's what I was thinking
Ability to get separation and good hands. Sounds good to me.

Draft Depth
I’ve never heard of this guy, but he looks like he has some pretty good hands. If he were to go in the 5th or 6th, it just drives the point home on the draft pool depth.
Late round guy that has talent and isn’t a threat off the field? Sign me up!
Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Fred Taylor. Sounds about right.
Nice.
Good find SoCal. He would be a good 5th round pick.
Everybody knows when he's coming to town
They're locking the doors
And they don't make a sound
People want him dead but he won't die yet
First he's got to live
With all the things that he did
he will be a great number #1 receiver
He was in a pass happy offense BUT he was not the focal point of their offense, Dennis Pitta and the runningbbacks were, YET he still got the most receiving yards out of anybody in the entire nation.

that is a better highlight of him, more footage, more games, all those catches are from one year
Collie Isn't a #1
He looked really good against Mountain West defenses, but he won’t be a number one in the NFL. However, I think he has the potential from what I’ve seen to be an outstanding slot receiver; a guy who has great hands who could move the sticks and be a reliable target for Garrard.
Welcome to the site, by the way.
Thats Good For Another Jacksonville... First Down.
that video
does make him look like a man playing in a league among boys. nice! just goes to show how much potential could come out of this draft!!

thanks for the welcome
I think he will start off as a slot guy but i think he has what it takes to be a number 1 or number 2 guy. He just needs a year or two to adjust to the pros
