BCC Mock Draft: With the first pick

The Detroit Lions select Jason Smith, Offensive Tackle from Baylor.

The 2007 surprise team: the Cleveland Browns, first round selection: OT Joe Thomas.

The 2008 surprise team: the Miami Dolphins, first round selection: OT Jake Long.

The 2009 surprise team: the Detroit Lions with first round selection of OT Jason Smith.

Jason Smith was known as a pass blocker until  2008 when Baylor averaged 197 yards a game  on the ground with 65% of those coming from running to the left.  With no character issues, health issues, work ethic issues or behavoir issues, Detroit loves his pass and run blocking skills.  Top Left Tackles come at the top of the draft and Detroit has their choice.  Gosder Cherilis moves over to take the right guard position where he showed strong play making the line even stronger.

After careful consideration, Jason Smith is not only the safest choice for Detroit, he is the best choice for Detroit.
