Run left! Tra Thomas is joining the Jags...

The Jaguars and LT Tra Thomas have reached agreement on final terms. Visit jaguars.com and you'll see tis' true. This seems like a conservative, yet wise move by the front office.

Do we all agree this is a smart move? Tra Thomas is old; so this move is only a temporary fix. Does this change the approach to the draft? We still need a young LT for the future, so I would argue not.

(This will be the second Philly Eagle signed by the Jags this offseason.)

I don't think there was ever worries in that regard

The worry for me is that there wont be any takers to trade up

What I think is going to happen

Either draft day or right before

We trade #8 to the Eagles for their 2 first rounders, and the Eagles are going to trade McNabb to the Vikings

Wow

I think bold prediction would be an understatement. Could you elaborate on how this theory came up?

by Adam Stites on Mar 9, 2009 11:37 AM EDT up reply actions

Sorry

Totally forgot about checking this thread

Anyways, my reasoning is that McNabb is doing his usual offseason drama session, and now it seems the Eagles are also “Retooling.”

I think they’re going to try and nab either Sanchez or Stafford and I figure the Jaguars would be the team to do it with.

As for McNabb, the Vikes have a history of making big moves, and I think they’re feeling the pressure of being “One player away.” So I think they’ll throw out something like a 2 in this year’s draft and a conditional pick next year for McNabb.

Plus...

it sure seems like the Jaguars have a firm grip of what the Eagles have been doing this offseason. Tra Thomas, Sean Considine…

If it's gonna happen

then I would be veeery happy. We will see!

Check out the video of Tra's press conference

Up now on jaguars.com is video of Tra’s press conference confirming his acquisition by the Jaguars. You should really watch this!

It’s clear that Tra would qualify as a Gene Smith “character” guy. Tra seems very intelligent and happy to be coming to Jacksonville (he is a Florida native). It’s great to have players like this coming our way. If his play pans out, this could be a very good move for the Teal and Black. Go Jags!

Unfortunately, the truth only comes out game-by-game.

agreed on the press conf

looks like a solid guy. just what we needed to spring some life back into our team. Now the team, although young, will get the message that we expect to win, even if we are going through major changes.

Agreed

I don’t know anything about his playing ability, to be honest, but his interview impressed me. Hopefully his actions on the field match his words in the interview!!

Keep running right

You don’t run behind a pass-blocking LT. The guy hasn’t run blocked in this decade.

This will give the Jaguars the flexibility to select the best player at #8 though. This is a good signing to shore up a position until a younger guy can get in there and start.

True

Tra was never known for his run blocking in Philadelphia. He’s a very good pass blocker though.

uh oh

crabtree’s gonna be a jag next year

by reggie nelSON on Mar 9, 2009 3:34 PM EDT up reply actions

I think we will trade down

but if we don’t, I think Everette Brown could be the pick. Also if Andre Smith is available he could still be the pick. In fact his stock may have risen because he is the best Swing Tackle of the top LT.

by Ewdtrey on Mar 9, 2009 6:06 PM EDT up reply actions

If they trade back

Then I’m not really sure who we should draft because that depends on the pick that we inherit. If not, then I like BJ Raji at 8.

by Adam Stites on Mar 9, 2009 6:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Not Everette Brown

I think he is 3-4 outside linebacker. God knows we already have one of those.

Correct.

It was just a cool headline; and you’re right, he’s a pass blocking extraordinaire. MJD can make his own holes anyway! But, think of all the sacks we gave up last year, surely Tra can help lessen that notorious total.

Unfortunately, the truth only comes out game-by-game.

by arthardie on Mar 9, 2009 2:34 PM EDT reply actions

Wow, what a good news

I think it was good move by the jaguars. As some wrote before me, with this the team isn’t rush for an LT in the draft and with Tra the Jaguars win time for the new guy. Welcome Tra, and have a good time here!

Quick question

I’m not a Jags fan so I didn’t see many games last year. My question is what is it about Barnes that the Jaguars didn’t like? Would he be more successful as a G or RT?

by JComp11 on Mar 9, 2009 8:40 PM EDT reply actions

He doesn't want to be here

and he seems to let people past him and get to the QB. Other than that, and an arrest in town and verbally abusing the officer, he is a great player. Offer him a big dollar contract, we won’t mind.

That's what I was looking for.

Didn’t know about that and didn’t really find anything on his profile from the different sites I looked at. Thanks.

i’d put him at RT versus LT or any G position…

Financial terms been released yet? I’m curious to see how much The Jags gave him in guaranteed $$$$
