Possible draft scenarios
(Editor Note: Statistics show that draft selections with the highest probability of starting come from the top of round three and above. If the Jaguars need a strong core of starters, our selections in rounds 1,2 and 3 are paramount. This post is to see who we think fits the new core team idea).
These are some draft scenarios. Can you guys post your ultimate three round draft without trades please.
Risky but Interesting
Round 1. Knowshon Moreno RB Georgia
Round 2. Alphonso Smith CB Wake Forest
Round 3. Pat White QB West Virginia
Try for a Home Run
Round 1. Mark Sanchez QB USC
Round 2. Donald Brown RB Connecticut
Round 3. Phil Loadholt OT Oaklahoma
Super Conservative
Round 1. Andre Smith OT Alabama
Round 2. Alex Mack C California
Round 3. Chip Vaughn S Wake Forest
Might Work
Round 1. Jason Smith OT Baylor
Round 2. James Laurinaitis LB Ohio
Round 3. Derrick Williams WR Penn State
Fill Need
Round 1. Darrius Heyward-Bey WR Maryland
Round 2. William Beatty OT Connecticutt
Round 3. Fili Moala DT USC
Very Nice
Round 1. Aaron Curry LB Wake Forest
Round 2. Brian Robiskie WR Ohio

So I know there are better choices, let me hear them.

Of course I voted for
very nice, but it might not will happen sadly (specially Curry, he is the safest pick of the draft, he will not fall until # 8, sadly)
My picks would be:
Round 1 (trade back). Peria Jerry
Round 2: Brian Robiskie
Round 3. Troy Kropog (OT), and with that extra 3rd Rashad Johnson (FS) or Kevin Barnes (CB)

terry this was a great idea
my 3 without a trade
1. LT available or Maclin
2. Louis Delmas or Patrick Chung or Robiskie
3. Shawn Nelson, TE Southern Miss
With trade, ill assume a 15 to 20 value in 1, and an extra 3
1. Peria Jerry
2. Delmas, Chung, Robiskie
3. Shawn Nelson and Pat White, maybe a CB
surreal to be teal
Why a TE in Rnd 3?
Big Cat Country!:: The Official Home of the Unofficial Blog of the Jacksonville Jaguars!
He Is
Thinking outside the box. Haha, seriously though, that may be a little high for Shawn Nelson.
Thats Good For Another Jacksonville... First Down.
some say he is a 2
he flattened mauluga 5 times at senior bowl practice, Mauluga never once got by him
he ran a 4.6 and has excellent hands.
Why not a TE in rd 3, as far as position, we took one in rd 1
if you say we dont need one, then your in needs drafting, we are BAP
live and learn through the draft
surreal to be teal
BAP
If he is BAP, take him. But it all depends on where the Jaguars have him on their board. The Jags shouldn’t have taken a tight end in the first. I like Marcedes, but no tight end is worth a first round pick.
Thats Good For Another Jacksonville... First Down.
I think there’s a chance Curry falls to eight if he gets past Seattle.
My list, which I was going to wait two days before the draft to post on SN are:
1. Malcolm Jenkins
2. Brian Robiskie
3. Eric Wood
Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Fred Taylor. Sounds about right.
I "wood" love that draft
What an upgrade all around!

Very Nice
Scenarios
Go For Play-Makers
1. Darrius Heyward-Bey
2. Lesean McCoy
3. Pat White
Pound The Rock
1. Beanie Wells
2. William Beatty
3. Kraig Urbik
Shut Down D
1. Vontae Davis
2. Sen’Derrick Marks
3. Marcus Freeman
Thats Good For Another Jacksonville... First Down.
Beatty isn't a great run blocker but I understand the argument for a young LT.
Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Fred Taylor. Sounds about right.
People Say That
But somebody was doing a pretty sweet job letting Donald Brown gain over 2,000 yards last season. Plus teams usually run right handed, a lot of times left tackles just protect flanks, and they almost never pull.
Thats Good For Another Jacksonville... First Down.
True.
But when I hear a scout or GM say Beatty’s a champagne drinking tackle that doesn’t like to get his fingers dirty it does put a bug in my ear about the guy.
Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Fred Taylor. Sounds about right.
We Never Know
Maybe an NFL training camp can change his mentality a bit. Plus, I am trying to not listen to the scouts too much, as they rip apart people that can be great, Like James Laurinaitis, but then put okay/bad players up on a pedestal, like they did with Jason Smith.
Thats Good For Another Jacksonville... First Down.
Yea. It makes you wonder if scouts are being truthful
about a player or downgrading them in hoping that the player will fall to them.
Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Fred Taylor. Sounds about right.
Another Scenario
Beat Indy
1. Everette Brown
2. Alphonso Smith
3. Mike Wallace
Thats Good For Another Jacksonville... First Down.
Very Clever
Big Cat Country!:: The Official Home of the Unofficial Blog of the Jacksonville Jaguars!
To those that don't know Mike Wallace
He is a WR from Mississippi who runs a sub 4.3 40 yards. He is a second day selection and rising up the boards. Whether he reaches top of round three is a question, but if he is there in round 4, Gene will probably jump.
Big Cat Country!:: The Official Home of the Unofficial Blog of the Jacksonville Jaguars!
Playmaker
The guy can fly. He used to be projected in the 5th round, but he is rising so fast. He might be round three by now, I’m not sure though.
Thats Good For Another Jacksonville... First Down.
I Think
That was the beginning of his rise up draft boards.
Thats Good For Another Jacksonville... First Down.
Draft Idea
I don’t want to try for the Home Run, I don’t want to Fill Need and draft a WR in the first round, I don’t think Might Work can work cause Jason Smith won’t be there, and I don’t think Very Nice is possible because I think Aaron Curry will be gone. I think Knowson would be a good compliment to MJD and Andre Smith may be able to become an anchor at LT. I think BJ Raji should be off the first round board because we don’t need anybody who has shown a sign of being a character issue. Same with Vontae Davis. They might be worth a shot but not worthy of a first round pick gamble. I think anybody with character issues should be relegated to at least the second round. I say keep up the interest in Sanchez and hope Denver wants to trade up to give us extra picks later in the draft. Mabye trade the 12th pick from them to get back a little more and pile up the picks. We need wide receivers but I don’t think we need to get any early because it seems to me that WRs and QBs are moving up in the mock drafts simply because they play those positions. That doesn’t mean they are worthy.

i agree
after the season, freeman was a 2nd round pick.
Curry and J. Smith i doubt are available
As far as Denver, i heard on scout.com’s radio from the Chiefs writer that they are looking to trade down with Denver so Denver can make sure to get Sanchez before Seattle has a chance. Wow hot commodity huh?
surreal to be teal
realistic awesomeness
Assuming we don’t trade out of 8 (which i bet we will)….
1. Andre Smith
2. Alphonso Smith
3. Demetrius Byrd

I like the Smiths in the first 2 rounds...
but I think I would go for Eric Wood at center in the 3rd round.
I don't think I'd put Andre Smith in the super conservative category
I’d replace that with Michael Oher. But that’s just me.
Wow
Socal, what a new image you got!

all the weapons in the world are USELESS if you don't have an O-line.
I never knew a QB who completed passes from his backside and not even MJD can run worth a lick if there’s no blocking.
Same goes for D line. If we can’t generate a pass rush, then all the DB talent in the world has just been negated.
It’s not sexy, but it’s what THIS team needs for long term success.
Weapons equals risk
Super Conservative means these guys have a high probability of being starters. WR, RB, QB’s all carry strike out risk, that’s all.

Liberal Playmaker Picks aka Super interesting
1: Knowshon Moreno
2: Josh Freeman
3: Pat White ( or Rashad Johnson)
Can someone help me understand Pat White
I don’t understand why he is becoming such a highly rated prospect. He’s undersized, pretty fast but nothing outrageous, and has no experience at receiver. I think it would probably be helpful if people explained the role they could see him playing on the Jaguars. This is my first post too, so whats up everybody.

A big welcome to you
Were you a silent participant who just signed up?
I think the appeal of Pat White is what he is, a QB. He seemed to impress more than a few GM’s that he has that ability. Whether that translates to an NFL QB, or a Slash type player, no one knows. I think there are more solid choices in the third round, but many will disagree.
Again, welcome
Big Cat Country!:: The Official Home of the Unofficial Blog of the Jacksonville Jaguars!
he is a bench qb
that we can use in other areas,
such as slot wr, maybe
i dont know but he is high character and loads of potential, oh its the scary word
surreal to be teal
Wild Jag
Flex option quarterback of the future? 15 snaps a game, sounds good to me.
Thats Good For Another Jacksonville... First Down.
We need another playmaker in our Defense....
I would absolutely love to have Alphonso Smith in teal next season…..
That way we can keep Brian Williams at safety and then i think our starting secondary would look pretty much better than last year……..
Rashean with Alphonso at the corners, Williams and Nelson as Safetys, Durant and Ingram as OLB’s………
I think we could have a quite decent coverage with those guys….
How about Curry and Alphonso?
What a haul that would be!
Big Cat Country!:: The Official Home of the Unofficial Blog of the Jacksonville Jaguars!
Curry yes Alphonso....maybe
I’ve watched both of these guys play football for 3 years (haven’t missed a home game in two). Aaron Curry is the best college linebacker I have ever seen. He just doesn’t have a weakness, he’s fast, big, strong, amazing open field tackler, great in coverage , great at Blitzing, I could go on and on. I doubt we’ll get him, hope he doesn’t get waisted by the lions.
Alphonso…is a maybe for me, I love him here at Wake for all the pics he’s gotten at criticle times. He has a few issues though. He takes a lot of risks to get picks, he always goes for the ball not the safe play. He also is an atrocious tackler. Think Lito Sheppard with Rashean Mathis’s tackling ability. I feel like he could go either way.
Yes To Both
But Curry can’t blitz. All he will ever be in the NFL is a strong-side linebacker, maybe a SAM in the right scheme. I doubt he will fall that far also, but if he does, he would be the BAP.
Alphonso Smith isn’t that bad of a tackler. For such a smaller guy he can hit, he just needs to be taught to rap up. Rashean takes a lot of risks and jumps routes also, but Reggie Nelson and Brian Williams are pretty good together in coverage, especially in a cover 2; it doesn’t matter if you get burnt a little, if the corner has over the top help he should be fine. Worst case scenario the D gives up a 15 yard throw.
Thats Good For Another Jacksonville... First Down.
I beg to differ on both counts
I am by no means claiming to be an expert on the matter, but I have seen every game in both of there careers for the last three years. Aaron Curry can indeed blitz, it may not be his greatest strength, but he certainly can get penetration.
Alphonso is not a good tackler, he is very much like Rashean. I’m not saying it’s a deal breaker, just something to be aware of. All you get to see of him on ESPN and draft highlights are his picks. I would still want him, but there are better choices.
Obviously as a WFU fan I’m biased, but I think the highlights speak for themselves.
Blitz vs. NC State: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuDh-2XC5EA
Blitz vs. Virginia: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-o6Tjv01rg4&feature=related
08 Highlights: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEwCf7huMgs
I know the second one doesn’t prove anything, but I like the hit! It’s irrelevant for us anyway as there’s no way the chiefs will let him slip.
Ask Boston College if Curry can Blitz
That was the greatest defensive struggle of 2008.

i really felt special to be at that game

Cool. Thanks Bro
Auburns game is tomorrow too. I’ll fill you in if I can get it on T.V. down here.

this is the trifecta right here...
Round 1: michael crabtree
Round 2: william moore
Round 3: fili moala
Boom.
I really really don't like Crabtree
He has bust written all over him. The warning signs are there. I’d be very upset if the Jaguars picked him.
Welcome to the site!

My turn.
Trade down to 18.
Round 1: Peria Jerry
Round 2: Alex Mack
Round 3: Brian Robiskie and Tyronne Green
No flash.
Brian Robiskie
Doesn’t last until the third. He is the safest pick at receiver in the draft.

No sweat bro, thanks for participating and sharing your opinion. I would love your draft scenario.
I love Peria Jerry and Alex Mack

Louis Murphy is a possibility. I like Darius Butler too.
I might at Ron Brace to that list as well. He can play a 2 gap scheme at NT and may slide into the middle to late second round. If he’s there at 3, the Jags would have to take him.
