Character issues and poor workouts have dropped Smith's stock significantly over the past few months. We believe, however, that the raw ability Smith possesses will fill a glaring hole at right tackle and complement our new, run-first philosophy. Smith was a consensus #1 overall pick before the combine and we believe we are getting tremendous value at the tenth selection. Coach Singletary will make it a priority to mentor Smith and make sure he becomes the dominate player everyone knows he can be. Penn State's Aaron Maybin was very hard to not take here, but RT was just a more pressing need.
