Think the NFL isn't all about money?

I think we all know it is, but to what extent? I just saw this report on Fox news http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,517750,00.html saying tha the NFL is in serious talks to have the SuperBowl in London.WTF, I have to say that again, WTF? Does this piss anyone else off as much as me? I wouldn't even know where to begin because this upsets me on so many levels. I will wait for some feedback from you, the other BCC contributors, before I get too upset.

Stupid

But the NFL is trying to globalize the sport and what better way to do it then have the Super Bowl in F’ing London. I doubt it will happen for another 5-10 years though.

Another thing

How does the NFL really expect teams to play over seas in the future. I mean every west coast team can’t win worth a damn game over here on the East Coast because of the time change. Imagine if teams had to fly some 10,000 miles to foreign countries with an 8 hour time difference, you really think that will work? Bleh, put a team in Toronto and Mexico City, there you go, you are globalized.

I don't think it would make a difference

It’s not like they’d show up the day before the game. It’s the Super Bowl. They’ll be there at least a week before the game, plenty of time to get used to the time. With that being said, this is a stupid idea.

I was talking about how the NFL wants to expand overseas in the next decade, there has been discussions about putting franchises in London, Paris, Etc. Part of the process of doing this is opening up to the International market and putting Super Bowl’s and games in other countries. Which of course they already have done in Mexico City and London.

There is no more NFL europe

“The NFL has determined that it will switch the focus of its international business strategy to presenting the NFL to the widest possible global audience, including broader media visibility and the staging of international regular-season games, and will discontinue NFL Europa.

Last October, NFL owners passed a resolution to stage up to two international regular-season games per season. The new international series will launch on Sunday, October 28 when the Miami Dolphins host the New York Giants at London’s Wembley Stadium.

In addition to the 2007 game in the United Kingdom, the NFL is preparing to stage regular-season games in future seasons in Germany, Mexico and Canada, with Germany being a strong candidate to host a regular-season NFL game in 2008."

Next thing you know the Super Bowl will be in fucking Hamburgh.

by cliff1982 on Apr 24, 2009 2:52 PM EDT up reply actions

The NFL has just announced a new franchise in Germany, the “Hamburg Hitlers”.

by cliff1982 on Apr 24, 2009 3:09 PM EDT up reply actions

That would be awesome, the possibilities are endless. The hamburgs mascot could be NEO the nazi, France’s would be Napoleon, Spains could be Antonio Banderas. I can’t wait.

sick

Italy needs a team as well, I designate them as the Italian Guido’s and their mascot can be Fabio. Hey I’m italian so that’s not racist.

when i think of spanish people, i think of pretty women
when i think swiss, i think swiss army, then i think of my childhood hero Macgyver
when i think french, i think of how their culture does not advocate bathing as much as the American culture.

the problem with text is there is no emotion and things come across differently.

I can promise you that I am in no way racist. Im a white guy in the south. if youre still racist you are an idiot and i would hope atleast half of my comments on here have shown im not an idiot.

That being said, I completely understand where you came from John

Personally, I couldn't care less

However, this is supposed to be a “Family Friendly” site for the most part. That and the Google bots frown when they find swearing and racial terms. We could be kicked off SI and Google news if their bots have too many “Hits”

Good to know

I won’t swear anymore. Even though I try not too anyway, I still do. But I’ll make it a priority. Us Marines have a hard time with it though, understandably.

This is where my true homerism comes out.

Keep the Super Bowl in the continental United States. Sorry but I don’t want the Super Bowl being “outsourced”.

Jacksonville Jaguars. It's what I do.

Agree

Football has always been an American game. Keep the super bowl here in the US

by jesusjagfan2009 on Apr 25, 2009 8:54 AM EDT up reply actions

Honestly, how is it that much different than having it in any other city?

It already costs a small fortune for your average fan to attend the Super Bowl, might as well have it in a world class city. FIFA has let the US host the World Cup, the NFL should return the favor ;).

I agree with this assessment.

Honestly, who cares? They can play it on the moon for all I care. People who were willing to spend $1000/person to watch it in the U.S. will have no problem spending $1300/person to watch it elsewhere. The only difference being that U.S. funds will be flowing into the European economy, as opposed to back into our own. Maybe it’s a political thing, kind of like a goodwill gesture. On second thought, we should just give them Britney Spears, she’s probably still big over there. We can throw in our superior dental technology, like toothbrushes and toothpaste.

I think it's a great difference ...

for the city that hosts especially the local vendors.

by Jaggernaut on Apr 24, 2009 4:39 PM EDT reply actions

As a European

I agree with those who said, this must be stay in the US: Why? Because this sport is still dominating by Americans (other then for example NBA and specially the NHL where this could make more sense) There are 32 teams who are hungry for the Superbowl. It is a bad idea. 1 game is good, but that’s all. It is America’s sport. Trully. This is my point of view of course.
