Jimmy Smith issues remorseful statement

Fallen former Jaguars star Jimmy Smith issued a statement today apologizing about his actions and pledging to work to overcome his addictions. He was pulled over Wednesday in a Jacksonville traffic stop for excessive window tint and charged with possession of crack cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia and knowingly operating a vehicle with a suspended license. "I am ashamed and humiliated by my actions and I apologize for the embarrassment I have caused my family, friends and everyone in the Jacksonville community who have supported me throughout my career. "I realize that I cannot be the husband, father, son and citizen I want to be until I overcome my addiction. It is my highest priority, and will be the toughest challenge of my life, but I am going to get the help that I need to achieve a complete recovery. "I understand that I will need to work every day to overcome my addiction and to earn back the trust and respect of all those I have hurt and let down. I sincerely appreciate the outpouring of support during this incredibly difficult time."

seems like a good guy beyond his addictions.

I forgive him

I know what it’s like for people to struggle with addictions. It isn’t easy. But he should have never put himself in that position. Much harder to stop than it is to start.

I hope everything works out for him. I wish the best for his family most of all.

What is it with our wideouts and coke? Disturbing trend to say the least, speedy recovery I hope.

Growing up

with a dad that had a similar problem, makes it hard for me to give anyone more than 2, let alone 3 chances to break an addiction to such a strong substance. I am greatfull as a fan for what he did ON the field but OFF the field and on the streets of J-ville, he is a BUM in my eyes, but I do hope the best for him and his family in his recovery.

Everybody knows when he's coming to town
They're locking the doors
And they don't make a sound
People want him dead but he won't die yet
First he's got to live
With all the things that he did
