Open Thread Second round Begins
Well, we like what happened in the first round, but the second round guys are looking awful good. Alphonso Smith, Conner Barwin, Laurainatis, Brace, Everette Brown, wow!! Gene must be pacing back and forth. Let's see how it plays out.

Gene has to go defense in the 2nd
The talent is extraordinary. Actually I wouldn’t mind if he traded down because the talent will be there.
Robiskie and Darius Butler
Don’t forget them!

Denver
Denver = bonehead
Sorry to say but that was a bonehead move by the bronc’s

Wow
Broncos must love Alphonso Smith. I have a feeling they’ll draft top 15 next year. I’d never grab a 2nd rounder for a 1st like that.
Ignore the hype; look at the results.
Alphonso Smith
The B boys still in

Are you serious?
Horrible to give up a first for a second round pick when next year will have more elite talent.
Cincy will take Everette Brown

If Gene's true to BAP
I’d say Maualuga. I’m hoping Unger, Britton, or Barwin.
Ignore the hype; look at the results.
Maualuga still available!!
I for sure thought Broncos would only give up next year 1st rd pick for him…
Ha Do Ken!!
I think William Beatty for the Jags

My board
BAPs are:
1. Darius Butler
2. Everette Brown
3. Eben Britton
4. Macho Harris
5. Connor Barwin
I want to trade back though
BAP
1. Unger
2. Britton

Think of it this way
Allegedly this guy, if he would have hung around in school, would have been one of the top OT’s next year. I like it…gives the Jags a lot of versatility in the future.
Ignore the hype; look at the results.
Eben Britton
OT, Arizona
Another OT. Getting a lot of youth in the O-line. Not that we don’t need it. Me likey.
AC/DC + Tampa Bay Rays = Big Balls on a Budget
Geen said protect the QB

I really believe this means...
bye bye to Tony Pashos, but I gotta wonder what we’re going to do about our defense. We need a corner badly.

More BAP
I know I’d like to see a couple of CBs, a DT, a DE, and of course a couple of WRs, but the Gene apparently is committed to BAP.
And I think Pashos at Guard might be intriguing.
Ignore the hype; look at the results.
He'll probably move to guard or ride pine
But I think in a few years he’ll develop into a really nice lineman.

Check this out:
With the 39th Pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select Eben Britton, OT, Arizona. The Jaguars will be the first team to start four offensive tackles in a single game.

BAP...A little scary...
With their 3rd pick of the 2009 NFL Draft, the Jaguars select Offensive Tackle Phillip Loadholt, University of Oklahoma…
Ignore the hype; look at the results.
I said it as a joke
But it wouldn’t be so bad. Hell, the Jags could run on just about anyone then.
Ignore the hype; look at the results.
I get mixed reactions about this Butler selection
from the Hungarian board, from the Jaguar fans. One is upset, why not a corner or a D guy was the selection, the other says, this is the true sign, Gene is a BAP guy, and he wannna rebuild this team, and make it copetitive for many years.

Looking to develop a passing offense?
Two big time pass blockers on each end but nobody to throw to!
Lets hope Holt, Walker, and Northcutt are up to it.
Anyone have a prediction for the starting line up in week one?
By the way
Britton was my pick in our mock draft for Minnesota! So…

Well
The girlfriend is jealous. I’m calling it a night. Here’s a a good day tomorrow. Too bad I’ll miss most of it registering for baby shower presents.
Good luck, and so far I’ve gotta say I’m digging BAP.
Ignore the hype; look at the results.
It looks like
he wont be a QB after all, at least not full time with Chad Henne waiting in the wings already.
So Much
For taking Pat White in the third. I guess the WildJag wasn’t meant to be.
Thats Good For Another Jacksonville... First Down.
You knew deep inside it would never happen.
The Jags are the most conservative team in the NFL. We run the ball. And try to stop the run. Get burnt. And drop balls. It’s the Jaguars way.
Haha
Good Point. The offense is so predictable at times it kills me.

I wish we could have traded back and picked up an extra second
and taken Butler and Brace. Why can’t we be NE?
Because Gene
not wanna trade away picks. I’m not jealous about Vic, he must explain this 2 Tackle pick to the fans…
by Zoltan from Budapest on Apr 25, 2009 8:43 PM EDT up reply actions
There would have been no trade away
NE moved up, but we passed on Brace and Butler for another OT. I don’t get it. Our O-line is NOT that bad.
I Agree
The o-line was fine when it wasn’t all injured and shit. I get Eugene Monroe, but I have to wonder if Eben Britton was the BAP, or was Gene just trying to prove a point.
Thats Good For Another Jacksonville... First Down.
Which 3rd round OT will we select?
I have a feeling we will select an OT in every round.
We may even select one who runs the ball and catches.
A WildJag O-Tackle.
I am dead ass serious. We will have the most impenatrable Oline that no one will lay a hand on MJD.
OTWR1 OTL OTG OTC OTG OTR OTWR2 OTWR3
OTQB
OTFB
OTRB
2 solid picks
however, I’m not sure that britt was the BAP. I know you can’t have enough OL, especially with what happened last year.
Here is Jack's reaction to Britton
He was an potion for trade back, so the Jags would loved that he stayed at second. Jack hinted that he might play even guard for a while, and he can play both sides. High characther guy. And he said, the jaguars are most likely DONE for today. Video:

I'm pretty stoked about Britton
I’m an editor for the Arizona Wildcats blog here so it’s kind of a small world moment for me.
If The Jags
Aren’t going to get Garrard some more weapons in the draft, last minute free agency may be the way to turn. Mike Furrey anyone?
Thats Good For Another Jacksonville... First Down.
You Have To
Develop those guys though. Mike Furrey could start in the slot next season.
Thats Good For Another Jacksonville... First Down.
I like Collie a lot
but I think Mike Thomas is more highly rated. And he complements the WR core better as a poor man’s Harvin.
I am totally ok with drafting the RT of the future
I have a feeling that Britton WAS the BAP on the board, right above Butler, and I applaud Gene Smith for his ridiculous discipline in staying with the BAP.

For us…(what the Colts give up for that?)

No
He is in. 3rd-4th round guy. More likely 3rd.
by Zoltan from Budapest on Apr 25, 2009 9:23 PM EDT up reply actions
Exactly
Last year the team was scrambling to sign any guy they could to come in. I don’t think that’ll be an issue next season.
Plus thomas is a short time
solution, andPashos meither he playing better this year, or will be cut after that. Plsu 2 guys coming from injuries. We needed lineman. The jags now have 2. I would taken Butler or barwin, but Britton is also a good choice. He was an option for me, if we trading back (and Jacj said, for them as well). So Although I have mix feelings, I’m ok with the pick. As I said I would curious how Vic will explain for the those jags fans who don’t get it after you repeat something 10 times…
by Zoltan from Budapest on Apr 25, 2009 9:29 PM EDT up reply actions
I wonder if the USC guys are overrated a little
I mean you have to think that they looked better because there was so much talent all around them. Fili Moala up front, Rey Maualuga, Brian Cushing and Clay Matthews all right behind him. Are they all spectacular or did they benefit from each other. If all 4 were 3rd or 4th round quality they may have flew up boards because of each other.
After watchin JDR about Britt
it seems he was the guy that had the most value on the board. It seems they could have gone in another direction, but value tipped the balance in Britt’s favor
could of went with Butler instead
Everybody knows when he's coming to town
They're locking the doors
And they don't make a sound
People want him dead but he won't die yet
First he's got to live
With all the things that he did
I don't disagree.
I believe he was there as far as bap is concerned, but so was Britt. Therefore, it is likely that they went with who had more value.
When you consider that this guy could be in the league for the next 10 yrs...
as a starter on the OL then it makes sense.
i agree

The genious of Gene Smith
Yes, we were decimated on the offensive line last year. Everyone is healthy now, we sign Tra Thomas to be our starting left tackle, great move. Mr. Smith cuts over half of last years production at wide receiver. We sign a great name, but way past his prime wide out. An we draft two offensive tackles with our first two picks? Character does not win football games, players do. With the off season moves so far, an our brutal schedule cant wait for our top five pick in next years draft!

Hmm.
Yeah but players who get suspended cause of stupid off the field junk (aka matt jones) i applaud Gene for the picks that he made today. People who can get in right away and make an impact on this team. I am sorry but the last 4 -5 drafts have produced very little for us and i am happy at this change

WOW QUOTES FROM BRITTON
"I couldn’t be happier. Every team that passed on me is going to regret it," he said. "I’m going to work my (butt) off to be a Jacksonville Jaguar," Britton said.
NOW THAT IS AN ATTITUDE!

That makes much more sense. Good call.

i like that
except JDR said RG or RT
but manuwai would help monroe a lot, since manuwai is so physical
Surreal to be Teal
I'm going
to start the season
Thomas, Pashos, Meester, Manuwai, Britton.(That way Monroe doesn’t have to make a switch mid season.)
to finish the season
Monroe, Pashos, Nwaneri, Manuwai, Britton. Now that’s one nasty nasty line. I’m almost getting the chills. And that’s a young line too. That will have to be the best line in the league once it melds together. Not to mention deeeeeeep.
BAP
not that I want E. Brown(de) to be drafted but your honestly telling me a player most draft analyst had going in the first round was not BAP at the time we drafted in the second round?
That's correct
The Jaguars have a team of scouts with decades of experience, I’ll take their word over Mel Kiper’s
by TheHammerOfSpicer on Apr 25, 2009 9:38 PM EDT up reply actions
More GOOD words from the newest jaguar:
"When that first game comes, somebody is going to pay for it," Britton said. "People told me I wasn’t big enough, I wasn’t strong enough. That all ends today."
"There’s nobody in this draft that has a bigger heart than I do. I’m so fired up to be a Jacksonville Jaguar you can’t even believe it."
If he plays like that, watch out Defensive ends!

Folks it is over for tonight
Thanks to everyone for hanging in there with me.
I enjoyed it. I return to Jacksonville tomorrow and Chris will be back to guide us through the late rounds.
I think a 3rd round receiver is on the way as well as maybe a safety. We had a good day today, not glamorous, but great for the future.

Might be not our roundm, but I call everyones attention to the quotes from Eben. He is angyr to the teams that passed on him. He is a hungry lion. Maybe Terry had right. This picks looks not glamouros, but it could be effective, then we now think.

This COULD mean
that our projected starting guards are not healthy yet. However grabbing 2 tackles allows Uche Nwaneri to focus on C only and Pashos could play inside. In some ways we have an entirely rebuilt OL for years to come. Not to mention having 2 OT’s allows us to have more leverage for signing Monroe.
